Yep for electric cars 0-60 times by their nature much easier with instant torque and 1 speed transmission. It took so many years for ICE to reach sub 4 seconds in non racing general public market. I hope ICE stay here but with E-Fuel to be good for environment.
We have a 2022 MYLR and 2023 MYP. The MYLR is probably more than fast enough for most. However, I am having so much fun with the MYP. Love the feeling that it throws you back when floor that acceleration. On the MYP, lower the tire's air to 42 and the ride will be much much smoother while powerful.
I ended up getting the long range but the performance is a great value. For only a few thousand more it’s really worth it if you care about spirited driving. We already have a Model 3 when we are in the mood for spirited driving so I got the Long Range Y for the extra range and softer ride. The Long Range is still sub 5 sec. Zero to Sixty so it inspires confidence when you need to go and acceleration is effortless with no drama like a gas car, it just goes.
Thanks for the feedback. Yep, only. $4K difference. Sounds like a good value proposition if it works for you. Here in LA I found Long Range would be more ideal car as it is as you mentioned sporty enough but then also offers good comfort.
@@justinc2625Yes, that’s why I just ordered the MYLR and will the acceleration boost which makes it feel more like the 2020 X3 M40i I will return. The MYP is tempting but not for $12k more.
I purchased the 2023 TYP and couldn’t be happier, the vehicle is very smooth with no cabin noise. I don’t know what a MYLR comfort feel like, so my ignorance is bliss. I also live in West Austin where the roads are in great shape which obviously makes a big difference.
Congrats on your Model Y Performance. In my review I found Model Y Performance firmer mainly on LA city roads as we have terrible roads here. On highway you can't tell much of a difference between the 2. If roads were mostly good then Model Y Performance would be just fine. I also say in many of my reviews that here in LA what happens is that people go test drive vehicles in areas with better roads and have totally wrong impression of the car. Once they purchase it and actually start driving it will be a completely different experience. This is why renting before buying makes sense.
I have the 2020 Model 3 long range awd with acceleration boost and recently added the performance model y. The first thing I did with my performance Y was put the rear 275 tires on the front and bought 295 for the rear. Major difference in handling and ride. Plus added protection for pot holes and curb rash. All being said if you can afford the extra dollars performance model y hands down better in my opinion. Performance brakes alone are worth the money.
Initially, I ordered the Model Y long range. I drove the Model Y Performance and ended up changing my order. I also have the Model 3 Performance as well. I thought that it would not make much difference having the long range. After driving the two back to back I decided on the Performance. I did not want to jump from the 3 into a slower vehicle. It was not much slower but it was noticeably slower and less responsive. The ride is better in the long range for sure. I am used to performance vehicles, so it will not bother me too much.
Thanks for sharing. I think an option of air suspension would be good for Mode Y Performance, so that you could really customize your driving experience.
I picked up my MYLR 2-6-23, I added acceleration boost before I drove it. My reasons: I live in the Buffalo NY area. Road clearance is very important when it is snowing. Higher profile tires for pot holes and rough roads. (It doesn’t hurt that the tires will last longer, can be rotated, and will cost less to replace) Comfort suspension for the 95% of driving. I wanted the extra 10% of range mostly for road trips (I already drove this to FL and back to Buffalo NY- including camping in it) I also added the tow package so I almost paid the same price as a performance so it had nothing to do with the cost. If the performance had an air suspension then it would have been a tougher choice Nice video - Thanks
Thanks for sharing. Looks like you really got what you wanted. After spending some time with Model 3 Performance this is exactly what I said as well - it would be nice if it had optional Air suspension (kind of like what Porsche offers even on Macan) then Model Y Performance would be an absolute best choice combining comfort, looks and performance.
@@toridas driving has been solid, I did have an issue when we got about 30” of snow during that 6’ event and it was about 5 degrees out. I turned on the defrost before I cleared the snow off and what I didn’t realize was it was melting the snow and the water ran down under the front driver wheel and refroze creating a cantaloupe sized ice ball on the abs sensor cable and when I drove it a few hours later to wegmans the abs went offline taking out regen, cruise control, auto hold, etc. they replaced it a week later under warranty. The bigger problem is loss of range during cold, I left with 90% battery and drove to tesla service 60 miles away and returned with only 12% a 120 mile round trip used 78% of the battery for a vehicle with a supposed 330 mile range. I did tell the nav to go to the 250kwh supercharger and was able to recharge to 90% in about 30 minutes even though it was 25 degrees.
I enjoyed the video. I recently rented a Model Y Long Range from Hertz and drove around Arizona and through the canyon roads near Sedona, and it was fun enough! I think the Performance would tend to make the driver more aggressive and therefore burn through more tires! I was very pleased with the Long Range! Cheers
Thanks a lot for the feedback. Yes both cars are fun to drive with Performance being firmer and more focused on being sporty and like you mentioned aggressive. If Performance model offered Air suspension I would probably consider it, but if not I think Model Y is a good bargain.
@@100miledrive point is that the 15 km range difference is negligible in terms of real life practicality. When driving long distances you only charge to 60% or so and highway consumption is also 20% or so higher than what is used for range. Together that means a practical range difference of about 7 km. On the other hand the difference in driving experience from a 5 s vs 3.7 s 0-100 km/h is huge, if you are someone who enjoys that. So that is why I am saying that if you enjoy spirited driving it is a no-brainer to go for the performance and you will know that, while if you are not sure what to choose, then go for the LR for the lower price, longer range and higher comfort.
We just took delivery of a 2024 Y Performance. The ride is actually better than our old 2021 LR Y that we recently sold after 51k trouble free miles. The performance, stance and handling are worth the extra cost. We also upgraded to the white interior. I highly recommend spending the $1k for the upgrade since it makes the interior so light and bright.
Thanks for the input. I heard about the refinement on the new MYP, once I get the new one will test to see if I can tell the difference. And yes to the white interior I think it looks much better.
I drive a 2023 performance Y and I think it rides very well and handling is excellent. 41 psi cold on 21s. It is firm but still comfortable especially highway speeds. Stays composed over dips bumps at high speed.
One thing I noticed with my BMW X3 M40i that has M firmer suspension is that I had different people test drive this car and for some it was absolutely fine in fact some loved the firmness and sporty ride it offers and others didn't care about sportiness and found it bumpy and preferred a regular X3 instead. So our perception of the same car is different based on our own feel and preference. I found Model Y Performance to be a good solid car. It feels firmer mostly at lower speeds on road imperfections than regular Model Y. And if that is OK for anyone trying MYP then it would be an ultimate choice to go for.
Test drove a 23 YLR and then a 23 YP. No contest. The YP felt way better. Hard to explain. But to me the diff was pronounced and so superior. And the ride was more than acceptable even on bad roads (drove them both on the exact same round trip route).
Thanks for sharing. MYP is more athletic car overall and if you appreciate this type of driving then it will cater to you. It does fairly well on the bumps.
Someone did a Y adjustable suspension upgrade and loved the ride at setting 0 front and rear. He stepped on it and the rear sagged. Of course it’ll ride plush on a straight line.
Thanks for the review. I purchased a MYP last month taking advantage of the lowered price versus earlier this year and along with the $7500 tax break it’s an incredible value in my opinion. Even though I’m now retired I really like the features you so accurately described. In the past I’ve owned numerous “enthusiast” type automobiles including two Porsches so the YP works for me. I absolutely love the wheels and wouldn’t dream of swapping for 19’s. I will consider going to the 275/295 combo with tires after I put a few more miles on the car. I have the Midnight Silver Metallic that came w/o an upcharge and paid $1k for the white interior, love the look, along with the carbon fiber wing and red calipers.
Thanks for your commend and feedback. I just responded in another comment that with all these lower prices and full Federal rebate MYP does make more sense. So if you are totally comfortable with firmer suspension that it is certainly a much better value as it looks much better with bigger wheels and feels significantly faster.
Thanks for sharing. I think they should offer an optional Air Suspension on Model Y Performance for maybe another $1500 that would make the car more unique, also more expensive of course, but yes overall I found Model Y Long Range to be the car I would choose even though the price difference is only about $4K. But it's funny if you add nicer wheels and acceleration boost to MYLR it will be about the same as MY Performance.
@@TheRealJongGun some people do like rough ride so MYP will work for you. For me I noticed after 35 I am now looking for a perfect solution. This is where I think I will like cars with AIR suspension.
Thank you for the comparison video. Exactly what I'm looking for. And came to the same conclusion. I'm in my 50s, mostly driving for comfort but want the car to be able to navigate the canyons and mountain roads when I go camping trips. It doesn't have to be fast, just confident. I had a Lexus RX oh man that thing did not fair well in this aspect so I went back to a sedan. But the model Y looks to be well behaving in the twistys. I will schedule a Tesla test drive before pulling the trigger. Thanks again 😊
Thanks for the feedback and glad you liked the comparison. As for the Lexus - the new generation of RX is like day and night compare to the old one. You can watch a video on my channel comparing 2022 RX450h to RX350h. Lexus reworked their entire chassis and made a much better driving vehicle. As for the Tesla Model Y that is a new kind of experience that you certainly want to try out first. Overall Model Y feels pretty solid on the road and ready for any task. Curious to try it out in snow. Maybe in the winter times.
Knowing that the prices of the MYLR and MYP with todays inventory discounts, will you still choose MYLR over MYP? LR are starting at $45,500 and MYP at $48,800.
Honestly it is very difficult choice. I am leaning more towards MYP as I like the looks, extra power. I wish suspension was a bit more comfortable for LA city roads. Maybe I would consider MYP with possible suspension upgrade - provided I am purchasing/financing a car and not leasing. But if you are going to drive with passengers especially in the back then MYLR is a more comfortable vehicle. If you are really on the fence I would suggest to rent them both 1 day apart and really test out everything. I just released a video on how many people end up buying a wrong car. This will give an idea on what I am talking about.
I agree. MY LR AWD is more than "good enough". Better ride, and I added some of the things it has. Caliper covers, (are the MYP brakes actually "better"?), spoiler, (to hide the paint chip I got on Day 2 of owning the car, because I opened the rear hatch and the spoiler hit my garage door), and metal pedals. And other things. I chose the 19" Gemini's and had therm chromed.
Really like your reviews. You come off like a regular guy who loves driving cars. I bought the Tesla Model 3 RWD; the slowest Tesla, it is the fastest car I ever owned and as much fun to drive as any other car I have owned. I owned, in the past, VW GTI and VW CC both great driving cars. The Tesla is on par or better to me. Faster for sure.
Thanks a lot for the feedback and your kind words. I do indeed like driving cars and I am curious about different cars and always trying to understand what engineers were trying to show in any given vehicle. We do have 2013 VW CC, my wife loves it. It's not a driver's car but is still fun to drive. As for Tesla Model 3 - that is really a driver's car I really liked the base version as it's lighter and it handles really well, unbelievably well. I will be reviewing Model 3 Performance and maybe Plaid sometime soon.
Safety is important-the performance will handle and stop better. If you needed to get away from someone it something you would want the power. I had a P85D with Ludicrous And it helped me avoid getting rear ended by getting me out of the lane into the next with incoming rear traffic.
What are your thoughts on buying a Model Y Performance, selling the uber wheels, and buying the 19 inch wheels aftermarket for it? Probably make some money back in exchange. Would it be similar a MYLR but faster? Would increase range too - Best of all worlds?
Here is what I think will happen. You will improve ride quality by about 15-25%. Softer smaller wheels with thicker tires will help to absorb some of the impact with the road but still - suspension is the one that makes most of the difference in making it feel more comfortable over the bumps. It's just for some people firmer ride is fine and for others they want more comfort and swapping out wheels won't be enough. I see many MYPs around town with smaller wheels. You need to find someone who did it and try it out. Of course a more expensive option is to upgrade suspension which can also be done and that will make a huge difference. I will be soon making a video on my BMW X3 M40i where I swapped out run flats for softer Michelin tires and I will describe exactly what changed with softer tires and what won't. change because of the suspension.
I switch out my MYP tires 2 weeks after receiving car with 19”. It does improve quality of ride and it makes car slightly faster because of the reduced weight. Also 19” are not staggered so I can rotate them so tires last longer. Win, Win Win!
@@sergiog5365I did the same thing at 39,000 miles with Gemini wheels and continental tires! The Uber turbines are prettier but the cost of those p zeros not lasting pass 20,000 miles ( back tires ) at 1000 bucks to replace made sense to do it.😊
hi@@sergiog5365, its good to hear your sharing, my question is after swapping to 19", how well do you find the ride comfort? As you maintained the stock suspension, how do you justify the ride quality? and also what is the Rim specs that you chose?
A lot of your complaints / remarks regarding suspension on the MYP is actually, at least in part, due to the 21” uberturbine wheels and low-profile tires.
Thanks for your comment. Tires/wheels contribute only about 10-15, maximum 20% to the driving experience. Suspension is the biggest component that affects driving experience the most. I talked about this in my recent video discussing run-flat tires and when they do not ruin the experience. You can put any tires/wheels on MYP and it will improve the ride comfort but only to some degree.
I'm making the decision between 2020 X3M40i and 2023 MY P, both in the mid $40k range after all purchase costs considered here at end of 2023...if you had to choose one of those for a daily driver or a MY LR, which one would you choose?
Hi there. BMW X3 M40i I would say a car for enthusiasts. Especially 2020 model is louder and might be even firmer than 2022 or 2023. One thing I noticed that the car I have which is 2023 BMW X3 M40i - is basically my car. I thought my spouse will like it but she wants X5 :). In your situation if I were to buy a car for myself then I would get BMW X3 M40i. If I have to consider others then most likely MYLR. MYP is an amazing car but I found it even bumpier than my X3 M40i. It also depends where you live. In LA here there are many bad roads. If roads are good in your city then MYP would be awesome. After all if you uncertain - rent them on Turo and drive for 1 day. It will give you a lot better idea of which car to get.
@@100miledrive Thanks for the reply. I thought I was going to go for X5 originally, but it had too much weight and body roll to it when I test drove it. X3 M40i was very quick and composed, the right mix of size and sport. I have tested a couple MY over the years. I am coming from an Infiniti FX50 with a V8, I love the performance but its a gas guzzler at 15mpg. I am just north of you by about 20 miles roads are probably somewhat similar to yours, at least the freeways are...Fuel costs are definitely a consideration for me as well as the driving experience. I calculated a Tesla to be about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost in terms of fuel/electricity and about the same purchase price at this time with all rebates factored in. Good idea to test on Turo, I may try that. This one would be my Daily and occasionally I will take kids with me, but it will not be the primary family car, we have a van for that, which I would love if Tesla made a minivan, but I don't see that on the horizon unfortunately. I am glad I came across your review as someone that would have intimate knowledge of the 2 vehicles I was specifically looking at. I appreciate your insights.
@@bryanjuell7686 Glad to hear you liked my review. I think yes, if you rent latest 2023 MY on Turo it will give you a better idea whether this is the car you want to buy. X3 M40i feels quite special overall, but if gas prices go higher, especially here in California it will be noticed :) So with X3 M40i you sacrifice that efficiency for performance and joy of having such fun car.
At least here in Europe Y Perf got a revised suspension in 2023 and it is very good, great blend of performance and usability. But then, it always comes to what you are used to. I would not want it to be any comfier.
Thanks for sharing. Hmm.. this is interesting to know that in Europe it is a more comfy Model Y Performance version. I know in US they made more comfortable Model Y Long Range after April of 2023, maybe Performance is next, that would be great. Enjoy Your Model Y Performance!
So thank you for the comparison videos, I think you made the wise choice. I would say to anyone who is looking to buy the performance models, to stop, and think about what you’re really buying, as that extra money could be invested in buying Tesla stock instead, but of course, if you’re financially, independently, wealthy, then you can do whatever you wanna do, but for everyone else, the long range model Y is just about as good as it gets, if you really want a good L/R car, and in particular, if you’re interested in buying a Tesla, and so buying the long range model Y is a very good value. Cheers 🥂
Thanks for the feedback. In my conclusion I liked the looks of Model Y Performance but realized Long Range was the car I would be more happy with as it is more comfortable on bumpy LA roads.
Nice comparison review! Wish tesla had a 20inch uberturbine(ones on the model 3 performance) option for say $800 less…would have gotten the performance. Instead I got the LR bc of the Northeast winters and limited garage space for a second set of wheels/tires. But the Performance priced currently is a great deal and bang for the buck in the US.
Thanks for the feedback. Technically you could use Model Y Performance in Winter as it comes with All Season Tires, not Summer like Model 3 Performance. But these wheels have very low profile tires, so yes it's not ideal for winter, plus there is a huge chance of breaking them on some pot holes. Also I noticed in Winter conditions I cared more about usability versus the looks. $4K difference is really not much, this is why I wanted to have both on the channel.
Same boat here. All I see if people listing their 21” uberturbines on marketplace around me and immediately put 19 or 20” wheels on their MYP. Those uberturbines are worthless in central NY winters.
Highway speeds-Y P is comfortable but firm and more stable. Hit a dip at 80 mph or undulating curve and Y P is more stable. LR can bottom and feel unstable.
Y-P is similar to what my BMW X3 M40i is. Actually my X3 M40i is more comfortable with adjustable M suspension, but one thing I don't like sometimes about firmer suspension is when you hit some dips on how fast it retracts back, doesn't feel good, but of course very safe. I think solution to all this is what Porsche does - bring in Air suspension
I think the sweet spot is a LR with acceleration boost and then some staggered wheels (you can get fully forged 21” Uberturbine replicas)… but then fit them with wider tyres than tesla do (275 front, 295 rear) which improves the ride even more but also fills out the wheel wells a bit better. So then, you have most of the speed and handling of the MYP but with most of the comfort and range of the MYLR… it also saved me a few thousand £££ here in the UK where the price difference between the two models is bigger
Thanks for sharing on this. Interesting to see these 21 inch replicas on MYLR and wider also, wow. It's nice to see comments from outside of US that Tesla is also popular there. I wonder if you see it like here in California almost everywhere, or it's still quite rare.
I have a 2022 MY Performance. I'm happy with it but will buy the LR Y next for the better ride and non-staggered wheels and longer range. The performance tires ( Michelin Pilot Sport all season) - at Costco on Sale- ~$1800! The Pirellis that came on it were toast at 19K miles. The range lost on the Performance with very conservative driving is 285 ish ...
Thanks for sharing. I certainly like the looks of MYP and quick acceleration. If this car offered Air Suspension it would be my pick, but for now I would choose Model Y Long Range. And yes tires wear out quickly on these cars. I wonder if Michelin will do better than Pirellis
I really love my 23 MYP for the reasons you explained so well. I never was a 'big wheel' type of guy until I saw the 21s compared to the LR's base or optional 20s. The 21s really give it an understated, yet aggressive stance. I am considering replacing our other car, a 10 year old Prius, with a M3 SR.
Would you choose Long Range 23 even if the price was the same for the MYP 23? I find myself going back and forth..! Range and comfort vs looks and extra speed 😆
You know, this is a tough one. I constantly have same issue with BMWs with their good looking but stiffer M Sport and regular more comfortable but not as good looking. One thing I will tell you, is that initially I usually steer towards the looks but as I spend more time with the car I realize that suspension is more important, at least for me. That is just my observation. So you can certainly get MYP, but if it becomes too stiff then think of an aftermarket solution. It will be pricey though. Also in my 20s stiff car was no problem. In my 30s I kind of want more comfort, but still be athletic.
@@100miledrive Thank you for the thorough reply, I really appreciate it. I think I will go for the Long Range with 19 inch wheels, and change the hubcaps to the Yeslak Uberturbines. I loved the way the LR 2023 drove on my test drive, felt much more like a premium ride on uneven roads..!
@@Surfinsurance Long Range is plenty fast and yes, with nicer looking wheels it will be a more comfortable car. And by the way Model Y Juniper is around the corner too. A huge refresh just like Model 3 Highland
@@Surfinsurance That’s exactly what I did! I’ve got a 2023 MYLR with the AB, and I swapped the standard 19” Gemini covers with Yeslak Überturbines. It’s been terrific; very comfortable, yet still really punchy. Of course, it’s not the same as a MYP (about 15% less acceleration from 0-60), but you still get that great “thump” feeling when you slam the pedal down. :-) I used to have a 2020 Model 3 LR with the AB, and it felt nearly identical to the MYP (regarding the initial 0-60 launch). Just my experiences, but you’ll be happy either way, that’s for sure. :-)
Looks like the owner of that car also added rear side window covers too. You said the interior door plastic is cheap, well it's way better than the soft touch material they used on my 2018 Model 3, which easily gets gouged especially around the door cup holder. I'd rather have that harder plastic. But a lowered vehicle with larger tires that have smaller sidewalls are a blowout waiting to happen, which isn't a fun thing without a spare tire and you're in an area with spotty cell coverage. Give me the Model Y Long Range with the Acceleration Boost instead.
Are you referring to Model Y Performance or both? Hmm I didn't really focus much on that. MYLR acceleration feels a bit more gradual where MYP just throws you forward. Also with electric power the whole feeling of rear wheel drive vs AWD feels a bit different than in gasoline cars, in BMWs i can clearly see the difference. I will try to tune in more in my future reviews of Teslas.
That red T on the air bag looks ridiculous. I didn't mind it on the outside, kind of cool/different, but that is gaudy on the wheel. And probably hazardous if the air bag goes off.
@@100miledrive really I mean imagine the news story. "man killed in car crash but would have sustained minor injuries if it wasn't for the plastic Tesla logo mounted in front of his airbag" more Tesla fud we doing need.
Oh, it’s interesting that you are noticing it as well. Yes Perdormace didn’t feel boomy. It had some hints but not anything close to MYLR that I had. Now I am genuinly curious if this is to do with build quality of some cars or they really do feel different.
That is an option, but I really like how 21 inch wheels look on Model Y Performance :) I see many Model Y's performance with smaller wheels and that doesn't looks a good
If you already own MYLR then really think if you need it. I believe it's $2,000 to go 0.5 seconds faster. It will still not beat MYP,. Personally I wouldn't do it unless you craving faster zippy acceleration and OK to burn $2,000. For $1,000 maybe. But again this is just my personal opinion. If it's in your budget and will make you happy then it's your own choice.
Glad you liked the comparison. Honestly, this decision really came after driving both cars and realizing that Model Y Long Range is something I would be more comfortable with. if they offered Air suspension on the Model Y performance for let's say additional $1500 I would certainly consider that car as it would feel more refined on the bumpy roads and could still be engaging if you drive it on the twisty roads.
Thanks for the feedback. I am reviewing 1 car at a time. Will consider Model Y Standard Range AWD as well. Also heard rumors there might be RWD version.
Who needs airbags when you have a flashy red logo to cushion your fall? Just kidding, safety first, always! Hopefully the owner of this car never gets into an accident.
I went with the performance and switched to smaller 18” wheels and achieved long range range while keeping the insane acceleration. Video is on my channel!
thanks for sharing. Yes I see many Model Y Performance Teslas with smaller wheels. While it will certainly improve the ride quality, however suspension will still be stiffer compare to a regular Model Y. Also the looks will change. These 21 inch wheels look quite nice. Anyway all depends what is the top priority.
@@100miledrive I am sure you are right. I wonder if the suspension is different or if it is because the performance is lower to the ground. Also thinking about getting nice grand touring all season tires on my 18” wheel. Current tires are Michelin pilot sport 4 all season which is designed more for performance than comfort. Tires make a huge difference for suspension
I've got a 2022 model 3 performance with aftermarket 18" rims and tires and it's not jerky it rides awesome. We can race sometime and my car will eat yours alive!!!!!!!!
21 inch wheels… no thanks. Bumps, too firm, and high risk of wheel and tire damage. Plus, curb rash damage is frequent on most teslas I’ve seen with these wheels.
yeah 21s look good, but not super practical. I think they improved durability of the wheels compare to earlier models where many people reported damaged wheels from hitting pot holes.
Couple years ago 0-60 in 3.5 seconds was Corvette ZR1 numbers and that was on a perfect jump. This MYP does it all day every time. Amazing!
On the MYP, lower the tire's air to 42 and the ride will be much much smoother while powerful.
nice, thanks for sharing this tip with MYP
I ended up getting the long range but the performance is a great value. For only a few thousand more it’s really worth it if you care about spirited driving. We already have a Model 3 when we are in the mood for spirited driving so I got the Long Range Y for the extra range and softer ride. The Long Range is still sub 5 sec. Zero to Sixty so it inspires confidence when you need to go and acceleration is effortless with no drama like a gas car, it just goes.
MYP is a good value but in Canada it's $7k more plus no Govt incentive of $5k, that's like $12k hike.

Congrats on your Model Y Performance. In my review I found Model Y Performance firmer mainly on LA city roads as we have terrible roads here. On highway you can't tell much of a difference between the 2. If roads were mostly good then Model Y Performance would be just fine.
I heard this from few Tesla MYP owners on putting wider tires in the rear. Quite interesting to see the difference in the handling.
@@100miledrive More tire contact with road plus the rims aren't sticking out away from tires. More stability in my opinion but I'm not an expert. 😃
Sorry but the brakes are the same. Just do a search.
My reasons:
I live in the Buffalo NY area.
Road clearance is very important when it is snowing.
Higher profile tires for pot holes and rough roads. (It doesn’t hurt that the tires will last longer, can be rotated, and will cost less to replace)
Comfort suspension for the 95% of driving.
I wanted the extra 10% of range mostly for road trips (I already drove this to FL and back to Buffalo NY- including camping in it)
I also added the tow package so I almost paid the same price as a performance so it had nothing to do with the cost.
If the performance had an air suspension then it would have been a tougher choice
Nice video - Thanks
Thanks for sharing. Looks like you really got what you wanted. After spending some time with Model 3 Performance this is exactly what I said as well - it would be nice if it had optional Air suspension (kind of like what Porsche offers even on Macan) then Model Y Performance would be an absolute best choice combining comfort, looks and performance.

How does your Y handle our buffalo winters ?
@@100miledrive does the long range one have air suspension support by default?
The choice between the LR and the Performance is really simple. If this is actually a question that pops up in your mind, then for sure go for the LR.
A good one. Basically people who get Performance know exactly what they want.
I got MYLR with acceleration boost. It's still 20% slower 0-60 than MYP but ride comfort is more important 99.5% of the time.
False. I like the rough ride. Feels like my Porsche 911.
@@TheRealJongGun some people do like rough ride so MYP will work for you. For me I noticed after 35 I am now looking for a perfect solution. This is where I think I will like cars with AIR suspension.
I doubt if you will see air suspension on future model Y or 3. It would cannibalize premium S and X sales.
In the real world, the 0-60 diff is actually just 10% after adding AB to the LR.
Maybe in the winter times.
exactly
Thanks for the feedback. That's right you can spec Dual Motor Model Y to look very close to MYP retaining the comfort.
Thank you Thank you for a very details review!!!! I MADE my decision now. Thank you again.
Glad I could help. Thanks for stopping by.
I delivered cars to customers for tesla and the standard range 3 is such a fun pocket rocket. My pick of them all.
@@dadman9492 oh nice. Will be reviewing Standard Range soon as well
Safety is important-the performance will handle and stop better. If you needed to get away from someone it something you would want the power. I had a P85D with Ludicrous And it helped me avoid getting rear ended by getting me out of the lane into the next with incoming rear traffic.
Took delivery of MYLR in red-multi-coat from Austin and panel gaps where very good including the triangle near the side view mirrors.
Congrats on your new car! Yep this was the 3rd Tesla that I rented for 2023 model year and all 3 looked pretty good.
Great information! Thanks. Now with performance pricing so close to Long Range I think performance Y is a great value ana best performance.
Wouldn’t change my myp wit the whit interior 💯
MYP is certainly a car with a character. If it works out for you then you will enjoy it’s performance
@@sergiog5365 nice! Glad to hear this working out for you. Yes I see many MYP on 19s around the city
Y P looks alot better. Real wheels that fill out wheel weeks, spoiler, painted calipers, lowered suspension.
looks wise 100% agree. And driving wise it is very engaging. The only thing that regular Y has advantage is more comfort, especially for passengers.
Did this Model Y have the new 'comfort' suspension? I think any Model Y built after 4/2023 have the new suspension.
The comfort suspension is for the MYLR.
Not sure what was the build month for the 2023 MYLR that I had.
@@100miledrive Nothing like Cali level... but not rare either. Model Y was best selling vehicle (both EV and ICE) last quarter in the UK.
I get anywhere around 240 with conservative driving to 260 on my avg for my 1year ownership. 17k miles. Long range 19” wheels.

That’s exactly what I did! :-)
I used to have a 2020 Model 3 LR with the AB, and it felt nearly identical to the MYP (regarding the initial 0-60 launch).
Good points. Hopefully in the future they will improve all these issues
What about sport mode. Lets u feel rear wheel bias?
Are you referring to Model Y Performance or both? Hmm I didn't really focus much on that. MYLR acceleration feels a bit more gradual where MYP just throws you forward. Also with electric power the whole feeling of rear wheel drive vs AWD feels a bit different than in gasoline cars, in BMWs i can clearly see the difference. I will try to tune in more in my future reviews of Teslas.
My performance got the track mode update? Didn’t know that
Yep, Looks like around December of last year. Here some details:

That red T on the air bag looks ridiculous. I didn't mind it on the outside, kind of cool/different, but that is gaudy on the wheel. And probably hazardous if the air bag goes off.
Thanks for stopping by. Well, the owner of this car was into these red T logos. Personally I don't like to do anything on the car's interior.
@@100miledrive really I mean imagine the news story. "man killed in car crash but would have sustained minor injuries if it wasn't for the plastic Tesla logo mounted in front of his airbag" more Tesla fud we doing need.
Better brakes = red brakes. They removed the larger rear brakes on newer models :( at least you can put 18in wheels on the performance y now
Yet Tesla still lists them as performance brakes on their ordering page.
Very nice :)

Did you find the performance any less “boomy” in the cabin? The Long Range is killing my ears.
Oh, it’s interesting that you are noticing it as well. Yes Perdormace didn’t feel boomy. It had some hints but not anything close to MYLR that I had. Now I am genuinly curious if this is to do with build quality of some cars or they really do feel different.
@@100miledrive I think it is the resonant frequency of the suspension and tire combo.

Go for Performance model Y. Downgrade the wheels to 20/19 and you get best of speed and comfort ride. unless you care about federal incentive.
That is an option, but I really like how 21 inch wheels look on Model Y Performance :) I see many Model Y's performance with smaller wheels and that doesn't looks a good
Comparing the boost performance on long range, do u have any opinion?
If you already own MYLR then really think if you need it. I believe it's $2,000 to go 0.5 seconds faster. It will still not beat MYP,. Personally I wouldn't do it unless you craving faster zippy acceleration and OK to burn $2,000. For $1,000 maybe. But again this is just my personal opinion. If it's in your budget and will make you happy then it's your own choice.
I have both and my wife and I prefer the Performance. That being said I own a R1t now and sold the long range. I dont miss the Model Ys.
Thanks for sharing. R1t is what Tesla should have done long time ago to capture this busy market. Very curious how R1t drives.

Thanks for your comment. I recently made a video on Base 2024 Model Y as well. Coming next week.
Thank you for the comparison. I really appreciate you sharing. I would go with the long range as well even though the performance looks better. 😅

Why is the Tesla standard four wheel model Y with new 4680 structural pack and front and rear casting being ignored? Something stinks here.
Would be nice if the base AWD was included in the comparison.

Same points repeated toooooo often. Compliant, firmer.
😃 ok. Thanks for the feedback
Hi Larry. Good to hear you like your Model 3.
That red logo added to the steering wheel on the Performance version isn't going to feel good if those air bags deploy.

21 inch wheels… no thanks. Bumps, too firm, and high risk of wheel and tire damage. Plus, curb rash damage is frequent on most teslas I’ve seen with these wheels.
