Part of being an Antique Nomad is the need to take care of business on the road! While the stalwart van gets a needed high-altitude oil change, we shop a Salvation Army and an antique/used/craft mall that prove outsized for their location in a small mountain town!
Profits made from shopping make this trip to do the Spokane antique show possible, and our first pick of the day is appropriately a Spokane World's Fair plate for $1.07! The thrift store here is big, well organized, has some decent antique and vintage items and is a pleasant place to look. Should we buy a fur? Is Harry Potter worth it for retail arbitrage?
When we see old stuff in the thrift stores, we figure there's a chance someone can stock a good antique shop in an area! So we head downtown to the Best Out West antique, craft and used goods emporium, where all those things and more fill a large old two-story department store. We snoop along as another customer discovers a good 1860s cast iron string holder, spy on prices of items marked sold and learn how advertising really helped cover up one guy's big mistake.
This place has true antiques, fun vintage stuff, some handsome displays of newer items but plenty of the good old things vintage resellers and collectors like. We pick up costume jewelry, a Minton attributed tile and a Ken Edwards signed Tonala bowl in no time, and the pile keeps growing as we work our way through lots of fun displays!

Hi George, Well, You just found someone who collects that aqua ceramic with the branchey design and the brass base…ME! It’s another style of Delftware, Handpainted and made in Holland. The design reminds me of seaweed. I have one piece that has the name…W. B. Leersum (MCM era 1950’s)name on the label. I love them. I started collecting them with my Mom years ago when we went to Flea Markets together. It was hard to find back then (40 years ago) but I’ve been seeing more of it lately. It’s beautiful. Not sure how many pieces I have, maybe 20. I have some in storage and some on display. There are many different shapes and sizes of it. I have candy bowls, pitchers and vases. Every time I find a piece it’s a different shape. It’s always a surprise. I think I might have found one double over the years. I think they would be pretty on display in a white or sky blue China cabinet. 😀

George, the green & white high gloss pottery (3.40 ish) is Delft, I think. Usually has a brass base.
This thumb nail is perfect. Your eyes follow in that magical way? Only noticed when I went into restroom. Took phone into bathroom with me ...you got turned over to face other areas of the room. LOL

My husband got a version of the backwards bar clock last Christmas for our basement bar. 😁 It also plugs in and makes that comforting, steady clock noise. I think ours says Have Another across the front too.

My dad grew up in Rawlins. I ventured to Twin Lakes Antique Mall today. Didn't spend much, everything i bought was 50% off. I tell you what, that place goes on & on & on! I stopped by your booth & took a peek; looking good! You had some unique things. I'm on the hunt for a piece of bristol glass, opalescence & custard glass for my own collection. I would love a fairy lamp in one or all of those, but i know they're probably way out of my price range!
Are You a Reseller or a Collector? I was just curious. I'm a very poor example of a Collector. There was a LLADRO I wanted and I was waiting for the last day to bid and I forgot all about it and the person that got it, I think that was the only bid, so I just look at stuff now.

Just found your videos. Really enjoyed watching. My sister and I are collectors, mostly of little things, miniatures, teacups and saucers, and small dolls. As we have very limited income we don't get to shop often, but when we do we enjoy it.

While in Oklahoma you would drop by the Goodreads musium. Mr. Goodreads had his best friend, an Indian in the basement because no cemetery would take the body. Lots of CharlesRussle paintings and sculptures. Also has a lot of Indian artifacts. There's a few fingers too.

The Zenith radio is an old AM radio, not short wave. If you look at the dial, you can see the frequency runs from 550-1750 khz (or somewhere close to those frequencies). My 'spousal equivalent' is a ham operator. He knows.

George! Good picking! In case no one else has answered, that super high gloss ceramic and brass is mid-century Delft/Delftware and came I think in pale green and pale blue. One particular vase was a great modernist shape but the line was never that popular. Too shiny for my taste but I think it could have interest for new modernist decorators.

You are more in my neck of woods on these latest...I am glad to see Sheridan..have possibility to go there, On one side I am 5th gen. Mt. and my grandma wore a pair of those beaded moccasins for her slippers...dad grabbed those first day. The store had great Native American stuff..and great other stuff and your commentary and knowledge is great. I'll have to ask dad about those mocs..I bet her dad gave them to her as a teenager and she wore then to days before she passed clear headed at 97.5...George..you would have loved her. Congrats on that impressive Washington State job and your ability to research Native American Things...one bad thing is having those rugs on the floor in a basement floor where you have any possibility of water...a fate of a rug of grandmother's dad mentions all the time..lol. Great shots at Little Big Horn and you took neat neat route. That was either a JC Penney or a Woolworth at one time it feels like...and before that a bank do you think?? That town looks wonderful.
At 25:38, there was a cool wood piece hanging just to the left of the shelves with the pieces you were talking about. It had kind of a cathedral Gothic point at the top with little windows or doors. I wonderd if that was made to look older or really was something old & cool.
It looks like something truly old because the finial is asymmetrically carved
Railroad date nails. Blast from my past! I used to walk tracks with my dad about 50 years ago and find the darned things in ties that were falling apart.

Hi, I collect it….for many years now. At first it was hard to find… lately I’ve been seeing more of it. It’s Delftware in Aqua…Handpainted and made in Holland. I have a piece with W. B. Leersum name on label. I found that it was made in the 1950’s. Each piece has a unique design. Since it’s Handpainted … No two pieces are identical in design. It’s very beautiful. 😀

I absolutely LOVE the lily of the valley pattern. The opalescence really shows up on it. I don't remember the name of the brown glass, but I always call it root beer ;-)

Good evening, George! It seems this one was cutting it close. Was YT wanting to be a hemorrhoid? That $3.00 Germany plate was really pretty...likely would've had to have come with me. I liked that comport with the tree branches on it, but not so much the gold base on it. If the base had been a powder blue, that one would've had to come with me. Loved the old gasoline can. I always wanted one of the old oak and pressed cane wheelchairs. I can remember when they were difficult to give away, but now they're difficult to buy. Loved the shelf risers and the Egyptian cartouche between them. I have a pair of the shelf risers an aunt got from a department store she worked at in the 1950s. I want that 1860 iron string holder! That cart the Navajo blankets were on really caught my eye. I've always liked those and the old goat carts. Mother would love that Empire China portrait bowl. She has a thing for the portrait pieces. There were a lot of interesting items there. The iron string holder would've been my top pick, though. Thanks for the take-along!!!
Yes, YT was very naughty tonight but we worked out a deal just in time! I know I have a bunch of other 1910s floral plates, but that one was much nicer than ordinary. I also recall wheelchairs were dinosaurs, but now people are more interested in oddities, plus they're somewhat convenient and comfortable! I love the shelf risers, wish I had enough to do a display. The portrait bowl looks like your mom's taste from what little I've seen! I tried to get that woman to buy the string holder, I think she was right that for a collector, it was fairly priced and really nice.
@@TheAntiqueNomad YT has been having a habit of being naughty, so it's good you were able to work out a deal. I would definitely spring for that string holder. That really interested me. Mother has several portrait pieces, and, like my beverage sets, they are scattered all about the house. She does like the portrait pieces.

I appreciate your channel & only a few others for reference for downsizing . I'll gladly price items to make a buck , but give resellers a margin for profit.
The cow was a copy of a real sized one done for Cows on Parade. Full sized cow statues were decorated by various artists into all sorts of styles from the flag to a Vegas Showgirl! They were then installed at various places around a chosen city.. I think the cows were in Chicago. Other cities had other subjects. The 80s I think.. The apple for NYC and a flamingo for somewhere in Florida...

The small ones like the one George found were very collectible, too. I was given a chicken one by friends who collected all of them. I don't remember what state the chicken one represented, but my husband likes chickens so they gifted him one.

I found a 13.5 inch version of the cobalt blue apothecary jar with the gold trim and little red glass dot trim. The gold is pretty worn on the upper part. Otherwise, it's lovely.
Do you happen to know the maker. Not many online that I have found. Three I think, and they say Empoli. If you know without having to do any research, could you please tell me. Thanks so much! I was hoping you would talk more about it in the video. Sorry about any typos. I broke my right wrist last Friday helping a neighbor girl change a tire.

George, last Thanksgiving I used vintage and antique dinner plates that didn’t match. Also did the same with the serving dishes. It looked gorgeous and no one commented that things didn’t match. But then maybe the family has just decided to put up with the matriarch’s sense of fun. I am constantly looking for dinner plates that don’t match. Good luck in Spokane. My biggest pet peeve with Antique Malls are vendors that bring in "new" reproductions made to look old. To me it's deceiving as some buyers don't know better and think they are getting a vintage or antique piece.
Those buyers need some "Schooling by George" on such things!! 👋🙂
I agree with you. It's very confusing to buyers. We don't often know if we've "been had" or not at times. It's the Dark Side of an otherwise wholesome & fun pastime.
