  • HUGE ANTIQUE & VINTAGE MARKET | NEIGHBORS & I SHOW OUR STUFF
    Rarely is there time to videotape my booth at a vintage meet, but the recent Sparks, Kansas Antique & Collectible Show offers four days of shopping fun, giving me time to record down my row of vendors! This mix of mostly antiques and vintage shows what I bring to an indoor-outdoor show near St. Joseph and Kansas City, with actual selling prices and a view of cool stuff from my immediate neighbors.
    I’ve never been to Sparks before this, and I get to share my wares much more extensively than usual. I’ll talk about items I have, why they’re collectible and what people are buying. Costume jewelry to kitchen, cameras and some controversial stuff that requires mutual understanding to heal are all on the docket. I also talk about strategies for setting up for a show booth to boost sales.
    Then I have fun with the neighbors and make some purchases that immediately resell! The ‘turn and burn’ is a fun way for dealers to all make profit, helping an item find its way to the ultimate collector. A 1930s bar set and a ’57 T-Bird promo car come and go fast, and I in turn pass Blenko bargains on to another dealer.
    Neighbors with original metal art, farm finds and furniture, a ton of interesting smalls, movie posters and beer signs…there’s a lot right near me. A highlight is watching a box turn into a seed table, a perfect base for a collapsable bar or kitchen sorter! I show off my haul from the spaces around me, and dream of the shopping spree I plan to take before and after I open tomorrow…
    Here’s some more of what we see in this video:
    Farm primitive and old paint furniture, blue mirrored table, desk phone, Juliana jewelry, cameos, Trifari, Lucite/wood WWII owl pin, bird bath, trike, Pfaltzgraff Yorktowne, cast iron kitchenware, vintage s&p’s, Goula bobblehead, dive watches, Swiss Army and fruit knives, Coke and Worlds Fair ephemera, air gauges, tobacciana, fire fighting equipment, Northwest Native American basketry and stone tools, prints and paintings, Denver stoneware jug, Fenton glass, offering box, ink blotters, Frankoma pottery, railroad china, Royal Gouda, Murano cigarette set, Treasure Craft figures, Weller Kingfisher, Tiffin, Jaru horses, ad pins, Early American blown stemware, backstage passes, chalk wall dancers, Faberge eggs, Lladro, Kentucky Derby ad mirror, bikes, 1960s toys, kerosene lanterns, bridge lamps, tins, alarm clocks, radios, fishing reels and ammo boxes, badges and pins, etc.

    How fortunate are we to have you share your tremendous knowledge of antiques, vintage and collectable items. I like how you hold the camera still while allowing us to focus on what you are discribing. I would fall in love with an item then you would print that it sold 😟. I had to add this to my previous comment. I laughed so hard when you were showing the stretchy bracelet with all the clear stones. You said something like that you didn't understand the popularity of this type of bracelet because you would get all your wrist hair stuck in it!😂. Oh my ....... as a woman I would have to say that it never crossed my mind, it was just such a guy thing to say, still laughing 😂 😂😂

    I love that you touched on the point of buying from a dealer, and turning around and selling it for more in your booth. I do a well know flea market in Chicago (Rosemont, by O'hare airport) and many times I have someone buy from me, to use in their booth. A lady across from me had wonderful jewelry and came over to buy several pieces of jewelry and also some items to use in her displays. She paid me what I was asking, and later sold the pieces for almost twice what she paid me. I look at it much the same as you do, if I'm getting my full asking price, why should I care what you do with it. And to be honest, it's money in my pocket, and I don't have to wait around all day hoping the right person will come along and buy it. I always enjoy setting up my displays, but at a fast paced flea market like Rosemont, well you get alot of haggling ( sometimes very rude customers) and can't always give the one on one attention that closes the sale. So I will gladly sell to other dealers all day long.

    I'm just getting around to watching this well-done video from a few months ago, and I learned a lot from you. I am going to impart my knowledge back at you. I am a Lladró collector, an attraction which began with my parents many trips to Spain and all the beautiful figures the brought back to the US. Also, all my grandparents are from different areas of Spain. At any rate, a lot of Americans say "Lladró" with the accent on the first syllable-that is incorrect! The accent falls on the second syllable. You can see the accent mark over "Lladró" to help one with the proper stress. Anyways, i hope you appreciate this information in the spirit it's being given 😊

    That R.A. Fox print you have, the one with the Viking type ship in the background? I did a lot of vintage paper restoration and being a Fox collector, any of his work with ships in it are scarce as are the ones, highly desirable, of cows and farm scenes. I believe that the ship series he did was done late in his popularity.

    You had me laughing so hard over the Robinson Crusoe bowl. "You think he would just look up" and "Who wears mukluks on a desert island?". 😂
    I found the swastika on the Alaskan basket fascinating. If I remember correctly, it's a sign of spiritually and divinity in Indian religion, including Buddhism and Hinduism. Amazing that to most it is a sign of evil.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad

    Interesting booth! Hope you did very well!!! How much did the ink blotter black elephant and jadeite dog go for? I have never seen or heard of those, as I know of. How do you keep someone from stealing from your booth? Has that ever happened?

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I did well. The ink blotter elephant goes for about $30 and the dog (jadeite is more collectible now) around $40. I learned a long time ago to greet EVERY person who comes into my space, shoplifters hate being identifiable and it's easy for them to find people not paying attention...so I've had very little theft
