I’m knitting a baby blanket, just about finished. I don’t think I could knit like that😂. I’m an advanced beginner knitter😅
I love your shawl. I would not have chosen those colors but they look great together in the shawl. That is what I love about these MKALs you get to see color combinations that you might not have picked but you can see how well they look together.

Oh I’m so glad! Nothing like a mid project panic, especially when you’ve spent money on the yarn, you want to enjoy it! There are some incredible modifications people have been doing too. The advantage of waiting and seeing.

Everyone seems to say "If you don't want to see the MKAL look away" even when they list MKAL in their title and it makes me wonder why someone would be looking at all the MKAL videos on TH-cam if they don't want to risk seeing it lol. I'm here for all the spoilers.

I love it. Yours is one of my favorites so far. I would probably never wear some of the wild souls that Steven designs. They’re beautiful but not practical for me. Yes I’m exactly the same. I enjoy some bright knits but I don’t tend to go a rainbow of colours in one piece. I just wouldn’t reach for it in my wardrobe. There are some incredible dyers in Tassie 🤩 what are you knitting at the moment?
Good morning thank you for showing us your shawl it is beautiful. I am working on the second half of the cable which I have really enjoyed knitting. I’m looking forward to see what you’re going to show us next week in making the cables. I live in the United States in Washington state. I was off and on about doing the MKAL. I am glad that I decided against it this year, not because it isn’t beautiful, but because there’s no way I would have been able to keep up. Yours is one of my favourites I’ve seen. Lovely colour choices.
What a small world 😊 I grew up in ocean grove but into Geelong 10 years ago. Are you in a knitting group? Not many about. Yes now that I’ve done one I’ll definitely be carefully looking at my schedule in October to see if I can take it on 😂 it consumed me but in a fun way 😂

Hi, I am an old fashioned flat knitter, I have tried circular needles but can never get the tension right I knit the English throw over way with the knitting needle tucked under my arm pit, I am knitting a fair isle 4 ply jumper for myself at the moment, I sometimes crochet but never have more than one project on the go at the same time,.

@@joandyke5776 I learned on straight needles and was taught to throw too, I’ve tried continental knitting because it looks so fast but I can’t unteach my hands the English way 😂 I can imagine it’s the same for you not having a needle to stabilize under your arm. Your jumper sounds amazing! Do you hold a colour in your left and right hand or do you just drop the second colour? Thanks for watching and commenting!! 🤗

I haven't done this shawl. I'm not feeling up to this level of knitting right now, but I've really enjoyed seeing the clues, and I always learn so much from seeing Stephen's videos! I wonder what his next shawl will be. If it's super easy, I might give it a try.

I wonder if the west knits hyberknit shawl KAL is a simpler pattern, it comes out in a day or two I think? It’s not a mystery so at least you can see if it’s something you like.

@@Knitty_Mel I picked John Arbon Devonia 4ply. The main color is Snow Ash, contrast color is Devonia Cream and accent color is Dark Skies.

I’ll often crochet around a neckline line if it’s too loose etc. plus I always do a tubular cast on using a crochet hook. Very helpful to have both skills. Enjoy watching the madness 😂👏

I’m working on the gem city shawl by em lyn knits to use up some advent mini skeins, the cardamom coffee hat by Caitlin Hunter, and the memories sweater by Heidi May. I’m also waiting on a delivery of some hunter green yarn to complement the ides of March colorway from gold finch fibers that I plan to use to make the camella hat by katrin schubert 😅😮💨

Love your color choice. The entire shawl is gorgeous! I bought the pattern before the Mkal started but I did not participate. I wanted to see how it turned out and look over color combos before I attempted it. However, I am quite intimidated by how intricate it all looks - so I may wait to tackle it when I have more time.
Thanks so much! I totally understand what you mean, however watching it all unfold is a great idea to take that pressure away. Honestly, his videos are so very clear so it’s an ideal pattern to try some new skills on. You can literally follow row by row. I think if I picked up the pattern with no videos mine would look very different 😂😂😂
I agree with Mel. The videos make it completely approachable. Stephen West is such an excellent teacher and he simplifies everything so it ends up looking WAY more complicated than it ever feels to knit.
Love love ur finished MKAL and your colours. I had to stop after clue 1 to finish some more urgent projects (birthday gifts etc) & I also found clue 1 a bit tedious. I’m inspired again to pick it up and keep going.

Oh wow I love your yarn choice. I don’t do stevens shawls because they just seem so busy I do like them but when I saw yours I believe on Ravelry in the projects part it made think I might actually want to make this one and in similar colors. I love that your color choices weren’t so bold and they complimented each other. I will still debate on making it till I watch all the clues entirely 😂 I seen a lot of videos on how people couldn’t complete it. I hope if I cast on that I will finish

My mission now is to work through my stash so I’m thinking of knitting a Scrappy Triangles top with all of my leftover sock yarn. How great is casting on new projects 👏

I really want to cast on Ranunculus this month to join the KAL. I also have the Cargill pattern and the sweater pattern too. I would like to do a garter marler Cardigan with my stash using autumn colours

Oh congrats! It was a big knit for sure. I think that the early bind off looks beautiful, it’s a great option if you don’t want the extra depth and to keep it all more inline with the rest of the shawl.

I’ve watched this knitalong with interest. Well done to anyone who has taken part and finished, or even modified this shawl. A busy time of year at school in NZ. My students are heading into exams, so no time for such an intricate pattern. However, I’m seriously thinking of joining the Hiberknitalong which comes live on the 4th. I note Stephen seems easy on errors so maybe these are worth a try even if it doesn’t go exactly as written.
Yes I was actually relieved that he let’s you know in the videos when it’s important to have the right stitch count and when it’s not. I imagine it would be the same for the next one.
Oh indeed it is a busy season when you teach secondary! Same here in Australia. Have you ever knit with possum? I hear it’s common in NZ?

Congrats on your colour palette! I signed up, ordered yarn, but ended up not doing the MKAL. I might incorporate the joined loops from clue 1 and the i-cord insertions into cables, in another project, like a hat, at some point, because they are so cool.

Looks fabulous Mel, well done! I'm almost thru one cabled section. You are so right about clue 1, it was just never ending, but did get easier, thankfully! I also love the short row wedges and twisted stitch sections.

I am working on the shawl but modified the placement of the sections as I do not like a lot of striping ... the modulating cables make up the clue four wedge and the cables run across the bottom except for the center and with a twisted rib around.

I went wrong on the very first clue and have had to make adjustments all the way through. It will still be fine though in the end.

I have never taken part in an MKal, much too stressy for me, my knitting is my down time and I really don't like when it turns into a contest of sorts. I would like to ask which hat pattern you used for the hat at 12:49? Looks like maybe Lake Reed?

Good morning thank you for showing us your shawl it is beautiful. I am working on the second half of the cable which I have really enjoyed knitting. I’m looking forward to see what you’re going to show us next week in making the cables. I live in the United States in Washington state. Every section I knit I get more excited about seeing the finished product and I love seeing everyone’s finish shawls, it really inspires me to keep going.
