Goldman wanted Walters bad (Walters had beaten the Feds in court many times previously), and Goldman probably told Mickelson that if he testified for Walters that he would come after him for insider trading, but if he played ball, paid back a million, and plead the 5th, he'd leave him be. I'm completely speculating, as I have no inside knowledge of the case, but I do have some inside knowledge of Federal prosecutions in general and let's just say it's hard to tell which side is the actual criminals sometimes in a Federal prosecution case.

I don't think he's suggesting that Phil was the cause of his daughters passing.from my interpretation he's suggesting that Phil's testimony would have supported his defense,and this would have negated a prison term, therefore offering the possibility of Billy Walters being there to mentally support a child who most likely needed his mental support.
