Just bought a GameCube to see what I was missing out on, since this console came out before I was born. So glad this was made, it simplified a lot of confusion I had. The only thing I have to do now is be careful with the heat sink and buy this
I really like this! While it is only a few wires to install, this just feels more "professional". If I ever do a picoboot (which I might! my daily GC has a GCloader, but I have another.....) I will be ordering one of your flex ribbons! Your contributions to the gaming community are incredible. Thank you for what you do!
I was going to order the PCB and get the W, but I just ordered it completed 2 days ago, figured less hassle. I couldn't find any real reason for the W, Are you able to use it for BT Controllers?
This is awesome stuff. I did the PicoBoot a couple months ago when it was first released. Saw a comment on Reddit linking to your QSB and thought that was super simple and easier even though the soldering isn't that difficult, this makes the install even easier. Picked one up with the Pico already attached from your site right before they went out of stock and planning to do this to my main pretty soon. Thanks man!
Yes this is designed to make the already easy job even easier and best of all no wires or bending or cutting the RF Shield. Leave a message about how the install went once you have it installed.
@@Angryhelder All went well! The QSB is super convenient. This is the way it should be installed all the time. One of the quickest mods to do. No more needing to use my disc drive all the time to boot into Swiss on my main console. Will recommend to others! Thanks again bud.
@@GeorgeArthurJr Cool I appreciate it. I have a new version being made for the DOL-001 that should address some of the criticisms and is also future proof in terms of wiring changes.
Yea the length is very minimal and just works. I also have a gnd plane on the back side to help with isolating the signals from anything on the motherboard but it's a short run that goes around things as much as possible.
@@Angryhelder really well thought out! Hopefully we can get some in the UK. I’ve got 4 cubes, 2 that are done via wires and the other 2 would be cool if I could use the flex.

As long as you're confident in your soldering because the SP2 area can have some tiny vias to solder to also you can just a usb gecko like card to load the games from a memory card slot instead. Speed is not really much of a factor using the memory card slot vs SP2 for loading games.
@@Angryhelder Heard! I have the skills to handle it, I'm no Pro, but have the skill lol. Good to know about the SD Card in the Mem Slot. No Rhyme or reason to not do it... Haven't really decided yet.
I did speak to him about this and it's 1 additional wire and I highly doubt the other install points will change since all modchips for the GC use the same points. Also the update is mainly to remedy the current implementation of the IGR (In Game Reset) which is what the additional wire will be for. The main features are not changing and he also plans to implement wifi features for the PicoW so updates can be done over wifi. Besides the IGR fix anyone installing this now with the flex or wire install will not lose any functionality.
Idk about "nice and easy", but definitely the simplest method. It still involves surface mount soldering of tiny joints, and even requires you to remove and reapply thermal paste!
Thermal pads not paste but any other mod of similar function requires the same removal. Its as easy as it gets but you do need to have some soldering experience and its not dummy proof.
I am actually in the process of redesigning the DOL-001 model to be future proof so I'd suspect I'll have stock maybe around Christmas time or end of the year.
Thank you for making this, I noticed on the flex cable I got there is an extra gold pin that is not on this video, will it matter if I solder it in now?
This is ingenious! It’s so “noob friendly”, it’s practically foolproof. I have a *question* though. Your website says that a new firmware is in the works that would require an extra wire to be soldered. Are you going to be modifying the Flex PCB to accommodate that change? And if so, how long might it take for an updated version? I still plan to buy this one, since the new firmware isn’t out yet. But once it’s released, I might want to update the Flex PCB along with the new firmware.
From what I gather from webhdx's conversation with me is the update primarily is to fix the IGR that is not working as intended, he plans to add an additional wire to remedy it. I have a friend of mine who we think we might be able to make it work without any additional wires so if we can then there will not be any changes required for the wiring and this flex can be used even into the future. Now the other features with the Pico W and it's wifi capabilities is also something he has not said anything about but if he is planning to use the wifi for updating swiss and other things he will need to have the capability to write to the SD card which the current setup and even his updated 1 additional wire will likely not support. It likely will require at least 6 additional wires which will be soldered to the EXI bus where the memory card is apart of the bus. Only time will tell as he does not want to divulge any info and it sounds like it will be something released in October or likely November.
@@Angryhelder Definitely understandable. I’ll probably just order the current one now, and if wifi *is* implemented, then I can always upgrade to that one later. I follow your YT channel and website, so I will keep my eyes open for any news. Thanks for responding!
If you have been using my flex pcb it has a protection diode so no need to do that. If it was my first revision (which was from last October) without the diode (it's a small black chip near the IPL Chip on the flex) then it's fine as long as you disconnect the usb cable right after it's been programmed.
Why do you solder all the wires to the chip, but without this flex cable, you only solder 2 wires to the chip and the others are attached to the yellow rectangle below the chip?
@@8BitPlumber1 Are you asking WHY the flex pcb solders onto the chip and not the solder points from the github guide? If so then simple, those points you solder to originate from this CHIP and it's easier to solder it to the chip especially for the DOL-101 which would need a complex Flex PCB to be made since the IPL chip is on the underside of the motherboard.
It looks like it will but since I do not own one I can not tell you with 100% confidence it will but I do have my own 3D mount for the pico flex 101 that goes in roughly the same location

when i boot up my system it loads up normally............. this is my 3rd try at this thinking the ribbon cable and pico pi pre soldered would fix everything. still nothing. boots to the gamecube no disc menu. Im going to reflow the points tomorrow and give it one last shot.... so frustrating
If your soldering is good then the only issue would be your SD card. You need to follow the instructions in renaming the Swiss dol file. If you're using the SD2SP2 adapter those are finicky and might be better to test without the bba cover on or get the SD Gecko which works on all versions of the Cube.
