    Hi Jay - We recommend bumping up the Power to 55%-60% and the Speed at 60%, but it will partially depend on the thickness and density of the card stock you are using.

    I did several of these years ago, when I first got my laser with great results. I used a photo with high contrast and converted it to B/W. then I went over the whole thing to edit the paths and make sure I included "Bridges" to keep all the tiny details integral to the main image. The bridges can be cut later in the process. The cutting is done on flat black paper which is transferred to bright white background that was sprayed with adhesive. Then you cut the "Bridges" and pick them off while the adhesive is still wet. You have to work fast, so keep track of those tiny bridges. After it dries you just add your favorite matting border and frame the result. It is so precise that from anything over a foot away, the image will appear as an old B?W Photograph. The only reason that I didn't make more of these is the level of detail required to prep the initial image. I am just a bit fanatical about details. If you have the time to do the initial design work, you can make as many copies as you want from the file, so choose your images carefully. One of my favorites was an evening image of a real Ravens Roost in a tree with hundreds of tiny branches. It had been backlit against an evening sky and produced a perfect subject. Another was a sailboat anchorage taken in the evening on a dead calm day. Another great subject. My favorite was one of my daughter and her dog being hugged while sitting in front of a window. By far the best, but also took the longest. Having explored some work on the artsy side of life, I had to get back to the bread and butter work, so I haven't gotten back to this for a few years, but this video brought back some fond memories of some lazy days I really enjoyed with my laser. It's pure magic to see what fine work these machines are capable of if you take the time to do the detailed design work.

      Cool, do you have pictures of those projects? I’m really curious

    • @SeekerKnight
      @SeekerKnight 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@f3rzz476 TH-cam won't allow me to paste it on here. Just be sure to use images that are very high contrast, like a silhouette or close to it and convert it to black and white. The rest is editing for hours and hours to get the level of detail you want.

    Simply wonderful! I have a question: does Epilog produce (or can you suggest) any exhaust machine with filtering system? Thanks.

    • @benjaminsieber1589
      @benjaminsieber1589 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We usually suggest BOFA or Purex if you don't have access to vent outside, but if you can vent outside a good quality blower fan venting outside usually does the trick! With the blower you can add a filter later if you need to. Here are a couple good resources for more information www.engraversjournal.com/article.php/2780/index.html and www.epiloglaser.com/assets/downloads/whitepapers/whitepaper_exhaust.pdf.

    So beautiful!! Can this 50W machine cut through 3/8"-1/2" MDF? or solid oak board? What is the best wattage machine to find the right balance between cutting such thick wood and also cut thin paper without burning? Although one can increase the machine speed, I heard that laser tubes won't often fire below a certain minimum power.

    • @benjaminsieber1589
      @benjaminsieber1589 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible to cut through woods in the 3/8" range with a 50-watt laser, but not all. Plywoods in this range include many glue layers and it's hard to predict the thickness and density of the glue. With the accuracy of the Epilog machines, it is possible to refocus and run a second pass if the laser does not cut the entire way through in one pass. We recommend our 120-watt laser option if you are interested in cutting through 1/2" MDF. Our Fusion M2 series is available with a 32" x 20" or 40" x 28" work area and can be configured with a 120-watt laser tube. Here is a link to the Fusion M2 product if you are interested in finding out more - www.epiloglaser.com/products/fusion-laser-series.htm.

    Does frequency 500 mean 500PPI ?

    • @benjaminsieber1589
      @benjaminsieber1589 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Frequency refers to the amount of times a laser beam is pulsed within a give distance at a given speed. For the paper example featured in this video, we set the pulsing lower to reduce the pulse rate to achieve less or no burning on the edge of the paper when it is cut by the laser beam. We recommend 500 as the frequency setting when cutting paper, wood, and other thin sheet materials. When cutting sheet material above 1/8" inch (3.175 mm), plastic and acrylic we recommend using a setting of 5000 to achieve a consistent cut with a higher quality edge.

    • @Trivimania
      @Trivimania 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So to answer the question , 500 means 500 PULSES PER INCH ?

    • @benjaminsieber1589
      @benjaminsieber1589 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The frequency setting is the amount of pulses per second. For example, if your are cutting at 3 inches per second, then a setting of 500 Frequency will equal 166.7 pulses/inch.

      Cellulose acetate plastics are safe to cut with a laser, but make sure you stay away from any labeled vinyl or that includes PVC. Do not laser cut or engrave items that contain PVC.
