    Pump the gas while you’re cranking. Not before. And keep your foot on the gas a little. If it acts like it’s going to stall pump it more. Pumping the gas 3 times and removing your foot from the gas then cranking only works when the vehicle is new or when the carb is perfectly tuned. Pumping before increases your chance of flooding it before it even starts.

      Isnt the Corvette more of a sports car than a musclecar. I guess they're all sports cars in some way but the Corvette never struck me as a musclecar

      I certainly could not. All of our Mopars started on the 1st turn of the key after one pump of the gas. It's called getting the choke right. That has been my experience with two different Holley 1bbl, a Carter AFB and a Carter Thermoquad.

    I remember when we were making parts off a dodge Monaco when I was working at magnum force fab. That thing was a boat. I thought of it better to be a lowrider than a musclecar

    Some of those starts Like the Corvette should have been called people who don't know how to start a carburetor Let It sit there and flood out and keep pumping it Should have held to the floor and cranked it After it was flooded

    The hard starting suggests that many of these cars aren't being driven regularly. That's fine; not everyone can use a classic vehicle as they might prefer. That said, I hope the owners have petty cash set aside for spare batteries and starters.

      Depends on how long it sat for bud. Gotta remember most of these cars have mechanical fuel pumps and need to turn the engine over to draw fuel

    • @Pissrust69
      @Pissrust69 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The longer they sit, the more fuel evaporates out of the lines snd carbs taking longer to start

    Mustang: the choke and idle are both out of tune. It should start vurtually immediately after one pump of the throttle and the high idle should have kicked in. Once rinning it is too rich.
    Chevelle: Another choke out of adjustment. Seriously out of adjustment.
    Corvette: carburetor seriously out of adjustment, both choke and idke circuit. Timing is too far retarded.
    Dodge Royal Monaco: Does nobody there know how a North American carburetor is supposed to work? I've heard a Carter Thermoquad, a Carter AFB, a Quadrajet, and a Mororcraft. Not one was set up even close to correctly.
    The Monte Carlo is simply a disgrace. One pump if the gas, keep your foot off the throttle for 10 seconds, and let the choke come off in stages, as it was designed to do.
    The poor Firebird is not going to have a good engine for long.
    The blue Camaro at least started on the first go, but the cylinder walls are a mess from all the unburned gas. Same with the Monte Carlo.
    Back in the day we eould never have cars that started that poorly, even at -40 degrees! There is no reason for these cars to run this poorly. It seems the black art of tuning carburetors has become almost extinct. There is not one that I could not make start better and most likely run better. Revving cold engihes the way they are in this video is a sure way to ruin a good engine. As a point of reference, most of my cars have had carburetors. My 88 Crown Victoria, 88 Grand Marquis, 92 Crown Victoria, 90 Volvo 240, and my current driver, a 2004 Toyota Carolla, are the only fuel injected cars. My carbureted cars, including 5 with the 2bbl Ford Matorcraft, 2 351 Grand Marquis with the Ford 2bb VV carb, plus assorted Quadrajet cars all started first turn of the key and idled properly, evrn at very high mileage
