I just think the main reason that we're giving jojo hate for spliting the anime into sections and not other animes simply comes back to netflix again with how they are releasing it in batches and not an episode at a time. What they could've done is say "Episodes 1-12, December 1 2021" and once that time arrives, release an episode per week until they run out until the next batch. But thats just my opinion so :/

Yeah people talk about an anime like spy family for a few months and carry that momentum into dry spell, with part 6 it was about 2 weeks of discussion then radio silence from the community, unless they where talking about when part is happening

We always got weekly releases for the anime before and it never was a problem for DP. It's even better for them, because they don't have to rush 12 episodes every 9 months but they can concentrate their efforts on the first episodes and continue to animate the next episodes as they release. We would have a constent weekly hype for 38 weeks. But now people don't even know part 2 of SO is comming in 2 days. You say that even negative reviews are good but at this point there's absolutely no reviews so this is bad for us, for DP and for Netflix themselves.

I’m not annoyed at the break. I’m far more annoyed at the batch release. If the first twelve episodes released weekly, this 10 month long gap between episodes would only feel like 6 or 7. It’s still a long wait, but it’s much more manageable. Plus, the community would’ve gotten 12 weeks of JoJo theories and speculation from the anime only’s. Rather than about one week of people discussing the entire batch.

From what I have seen, people have more issue with the fact that Netflix drop all the batch at once rather than weekly release, rather than the wait between batches

I think part 2 was allready far in production during March, and they took time to finish part 3, wich Is coming After a shorter break This time.

The staggering of parts of a season is not as bad as the actual batch release. AOT came out weekly then it took its break. Part 6 had the first batch drop altogether and then took a break. Take whatever break you want just simulcast it to prevent unnecessary jail time

Releasing Stone Ocean Weekly for fans to watch is like eating a cookie bit by bit and always having more to taste in each bite and eventually feeling satisfied.
Releasing The Entire Batch of Stone Ocean all at once is like eating the entire cookie and you already feel like you’re satisfied... except you also feel unsatisfied at the same time because you find yourself wanting more, and that’s too bad considering it’s only available every few months or a year before you can have another cookie.
The classic Netflix binge model
I really think having a weekly release of the episodes under netflix [like they did for komi can't comunicate] would've kept the hype more consistant and buy more time for dp before the fans start geting upset
I still see no reason to not release each episode Weekly. It will give the fans some drops of content each week, and will make the waiting for the "batches" not feel so long.
If the 12 first episodes are done, why not release weekly then? Netflix do it for many shows, why JoJo is different?

Yeah, I felt like the first STONE OCEAN was really rushed compared to Golden Wind, the previous part. In part 5, everything in the background is detailed, beautiful, and in pretty realistic motion.
But in part 6, we literally have motionless grey outlines of background characters. Even if they're close to the "camera," they're still just... blank grey outlines.
@Nam Gge its the same practices as videogame industry where they will release a halfbaked piece of shit for full price and then try to patch it up into a more presentable state, because they dont actually invest the money necessary for this and they know that Jojo is established and people who already like the series will eat whatever they are served just because its jojo

I've noticed that the animation doesn't look that great either. It only looks good when characters are introduced like Jotaro and Weather Report and Anasui.

I think I your point about aot and spy x family is valid if Jojo was having these batches with weekly episodes. I'd be fine if the batches would have episodes release for a a few weeks then take a break but that's not the case. Most people just binge all 12 episodes at once

The main issue is that anime is very centered on community discussions. So when there’s no weekly release people won’t talk about it.
Or they talk about it all on the first day. I’ve seen so many posts about various episodes of batch 2

So we got a new episode every week for 3 months before an 8 months break
For jojo part 6 we got all 12 episodes at once
Natural most people watch it in a day or 2
Then we have to wait 8 months for new content, a lot people have probably have forgotten about part 6
It's easier to remember something you enjoyed for 3 months than something you enjoyed for a day

If SO was released weekly, with a 1 cour break (3 months) in-between each "part" I promise people would have much less of a problem with it. The first episode would've been January 2022 and the last would've been April 2023. The same time period as it's currently airing in, so the studio would've had just as much time to work on it. Actually they would've had more time since the later episodes in each "part" don't have to be finished 6 months before they'd naturally air on TV (would also be nice if Netflix didn't need it even 3 months earlier to dub it into every language on Earth).
The difference is 9 months of weekly episodes with 6 months of break vs 3 days of batches and 15+ months of nothing. Stone Ocean was just a quick cash grab for Netflix, which is why they've pretty much stopped promoting it all together now that the hype is gone. No excuse.
I can understand why fans are upset but personally I think it’s a little more nuanced than that. I PROMISE I’ll explain more about this in my next video
I should also mention I’m not happy with the overall situation. I just want to be able to present the other side of the conversation as well
@@wongdiggidy I understand where you're coming from, and this was a well made video, but I just fundamentally disagree with any attempt to make this release schedule seem reasonable.
I know people are upset that Stone Ocean has all this negatively surrounding it. I get it, it's literally my favorite part. But I'm honestly glad the fanbase is making it very clear that we are not okay with this shit. I just want it to be treated with the same respect the previous parts got.

So we all agree, weekly releases is great for fans and community
The worst aspect for me is not having to wait for the next batch, but rather the batch itself. Releasing 12 episodes all at once basically kills the hype as well as possible discussion/theories from the community. I just wish they gave us a weekly release, instead of a whole batch in one day only for us to wait almost a year for the next part. Also, Stone Ocean has always been one of the most underrated parts of the series and the anime could've been a great opportunity to change that.

I’m seeing a lot of comments about this so I feel so I should clarify my position. Rather than justifying the batch releases over a weekly release then break, I’m more so trying to explain why the anime is “delayed” and having a staggered release like AoT or Spy Family. I’m not saying Netflix is in the right for releasing a batch of 12 episodes and have 0 communication with the fans. Again, this video is to talk about the constraints and trends of the studio and the industry. Hope that clears things up. If you have any more concerns, drop it in a comment below.

it's the perfect balance between wholesome and dark themes, action and fluff with a hint of yuri , now _that_ sounds like a great anime
what surprised me is that the second batch had a lot less CGI and a much better quality of it.
To be honest, in the last episodes there were some insanely animated scenes, as good as the best JoJo had until now.
Also all the plot and pacing issues are gone and the storyline for Stone Ocean is pretty hype, can't wait for Dio to come back. It would be fun get a Dio v Jotaro rematch. (anime only, pls no manga spoilers)

To be honest the only real gripe I had for batch 1 was the CG for Lang Wrangler was super jarring when it was in the middle of the fight

Two important points I think you missed
1. The big problem with the staggered release is largely because the episodes come in batches. If we got weekly releases starting in December, interest for the series would have kept up right until March, and a 6 month wait is much more bearable than a 10 month wait, especially if their next trailer came out in May/June. Netflix prefers a batch release schedule because they prefer having people binge a new season of the show over coming back weekly, which works for a subset of audiences who's free time comes in blocks, but not for anime viewers who are accustomed to a weekly release schedule.
2. David Pro, along with a lot of animation studios, are used to working on a weekly release schedule. When Golden Wind was still airing, each episode was being produced the week of release, right up until last minute. This is the reason why they took some weeks off, at one point giving us a recap episode. This also meant that production for this part was hell, which is a problem that can be solved by the 6-month break model you were talking about. The issue is when Netflix wants to make trailers for the next batch of episodes. Instead of keeping that same schedule of producing one episode at a time, David Pro now has to work on 12 episodes simultaneously, so they can get a trailer out showing off scenes from these next dozen episodes. This means restructuring their entire workflow, having to storyboard all 12 episodes as soon as possible so they start animating select scenes from them to put in trailers, which also means your staff of key framers, in-betweeners, animation clean-up, sound effect artists, voice actors, and every other artist that isn't a storyboarder has to wait until all 12 episodes have been storyboarded before they can get any work done. Inefficiencies like this slow down production by a lot, and is the main reason why batch 2 took almost a year to be finished. I'm sure when the first trailer came out that was all the work they had done at the time.
Yeah the batch release really doesn't line up well with the split parts. Personally I try think of the dates of the Japanese broadcast cuz that's more traditional and I'm hard coping lmao. I think Stone Ocean would have been fine if it wasn't a batch release leading to a botched release but I intend on making a different video talking about the batch releases and the what to expect in the long run and not just Stone Ocean
Even if it was delayed I am very happy they didn't use a lot of cgi for stands. I know they used a little for white snake, but not as much as the first part.
In general the cgi looked ok for me except in the lang wrangler fight in batch 1. It was really jarring when it happened mid fight

My guess is that, Netflix likes to split series into seasons, and theyd rather have ALL episodes of a part/season instead of updating the whole series updating it every so often. So they ended up splitting the series up so people can still watched the completed episodes of a part without waiting more time to get all the episodes at once.
I dont care if i wait, because the quality makes up for it at least in my eyes.

I didn't mind the staggered release at first, the problem I had and still do have is they went completely silent after releasing it, to the point it felt like it was just cancelled. I don't mind waiting for more stuff but I want to know the progress, I don't want to be left in the dark about it until a week before release

ngl after watching the batch that was released today, i think that the batch release structure is the problem. if its released weekly that keeps the hype train going for the whole three months and then people are even more excited when the next batch is ready, since its spread across a whole season of anime there are other shows that can fill the gap while people wait so DP gets more breathing room and when the next batch is ready for prime time everyones ready to dive right back in. batch structure kills the hype and momentum

The issue here was a lack of communication. JoJo fans ENJOY weekly base release IE JoJo Fridays. With some animes such as the recent Cyberpunk Edgerunners I was very glad it dropped all at once. That's the entire issue here is lack of communication they should've made it very clear as if it's a treat that "the first 12 episodes will drop immediately", or if they recognize the fanbase like with JoJo, just readjust it and do it weekly then take a break afterwards if needed.

Great video you've definitely earned a sub from me. That being said I do disagree with one point you made. I don't think stone ocean is doing the same thing as aot and spy x family. The seasonal format helps a lot when done right. it gives the animators and story boarders more leeway which is why pacing and animation often improves in seasonal anime. for long running series like mha it keeps the anime a healthy distance away from the manga which means little to no filler. since they can plan ahead they can pick a good stopping point too which helps with the wait. Stone ocean gets none of these advantages and all the long waits. Plus when those shows come back they tend to advertise themselves with promos and teasers to rebuild the hype which stone ocean doesn't do because it's not a natural break like aot spy family but more of an interruption.

Love all the points you make, very valid, but as you mentioned it takes about 2 years to make a whole part of jojo, that means from 2019 to 2021 or early 2022 they'd already been done with it, I personally think they're already done with it, Netflix has been going down hill for the past few years with them taking shows off and the live action animes, people are unsubscribing, so Netflix got stone ocean and are releasing like this while DP is in works of part 7 for the next 2/2½ years, just a theory

Staggering the releases in batches was an awful decision no matter what way you look at it. They should have just given the part more time in the oven and then done weekly releases, or hell, even one episode a month if they had no other choice. At least then it would have kept people discussing the series instead of most hype just dying completely. I'm not SUPER upset, considering the episodes we get are still top-tier for the most part; they're still as high quality as DP's work has ever been, but it's still really annoying knowing that the release schedule is ruining the hype for the series.
Honestly doing it batches works for me. I don't binge through as quickly. Hell I wouldn't mind if they went with the 1 episode a week model like The Boys. I love shows like these and I want to see them at their very best. If it means having them drip fed to me, that is alright with me

Here's a thought
Make them weekly releases AFTER those episode batches are finished. Aka 12 episodes spread across 12 weeks(3 months) THEN take your break until the next 12 are done a repeat. It's smarter AND more cost efficient/effective than dumping them in clumps

Thanks to the awful batch releases, we are actually less episodes than what a weekly Friday would give out regularly.
If Part 6 were to be Weekly, we would have by now approximately 30-34 episodes, not 24.
If they want to release the anime release it when all the work is done, do it the usual week by week thing like any other anime. Changing it obviously won't help and like you said part 6 is the least popular JoJo and with this bad timing it leads to a very underwhelming part for everyone. Experience is bad and JoJo reputation will go down the drain. Netflix or DP whoever make such decision should be fired
