In my opinion magnetic is up there with wormhole and both dropped in the same year no one makes D&B like JL or End rush and optical giants in the game peace out
Okay my lovely fellas in the comments. I see I need to be bit more precise here. Of course Jonny L is revered and respected. Especially by genre geeks, and people who are deeper into dnb. But go a head and ask about Mr L any casual dnb party goer, who truly loves this music but is not into exploring producers, labeles, subgenres ETC. I am pretty sure that majority won't know about him. Maybe some will recall Back To Your Roots due to the remixes by Friction, or will remember some old school XL stuff. Besides that he is not on socials, he is not dj'ing, a lot of his tunes are rather unconvetional and slightly obscure. When there are debates about favourite djs and producers I barely see people mentioning his name. This is why I said he is one of the most overlooked producers in the scene. It's not a disrespect, it's a fact. Personally I think he is great! And even though his tunes might not be appealing to everyone, he has a very unique style, and there is no doubt about that. Cheers :)
@@leighsavage3073 sadly I know you are right about the drops. Kids want bang. Us old skool era people know the value of a tune that just meanders along nicely
I remember Bryan G playing this as his first tune on dubplate in a tiny room in Lakota Bristol (had like 6 rewinds)...totally flipped the scene on it's head.
The ominous pad-sound which gives this track its dreadful atmosphere is called "07 Deep Space Bass" from Bizarre Planet Sampling CD. This video has the full sample th-cam.com/video/n0U-gfd1Nzg/w-d-xo.html
Never knew this had a music video for it. Interested to see if some of those scenes were indeed shot at Wandsworth Roundabout underpass, as it's local to me.
@@djhaynes99 oh yeah that’s very apparent in all the tape recordings of raves and pirate radio, I’m talking about nowadays like many tunes of the period.
Great tune! I'm wondering if anyone can help - I am looking for an old tune by Jonny L - it was on some free CD that came with a magazine like NME (or something). All I can remember was a woman interviewing Jonny L. She asked him, "How are you spelling that?" He replies "L". "Is that the just the letter L?" "L" "What, just one letter?" "L" This goes on for a bit and he loses his patience and says, "Yes, f*** you!" and then the song starts. Anybody know what the song is called?
@@modularcarpet I got here via that track! I've been putting together some of the Select mixtapes. It was impossible in the day, but I was an optimist and cut them out. But now it takes minutes not hours in record shops.
Wow 30 years on I'm still grooving to Jonny L. Timeless. Classic. Banger.
Masterpiece.
Jonny L is one the most underrated and overlooked jungle/dnb producers out there.
Underrated?

If this tune came out today I'd still be thinking what a sick tune it was, now its over 20 years old!
Cause this music WAS better back then. THe sound was better due to analogue equipment.
Awesome!)
Joseph Letts if it came out today they wouldn’t has the patience + and be upset there wasn’t enough drops.... but your right it’s a corker alright
