I worked at Williams for 7 years in the Conference centre /hospitality. Left in 2016. Loved my time there. Claire is amazing.
She comes across like an absolute superstar 🙌
She was an idiot and her father would be ashamed of her. She ran Williams into the ground no one else. She also did it in record time. Watching her on a bailiff TV program in the UK was hilarious. The racing world is better off without her.
She's a very impressive strong woman. The emotions with her father's legacy, Covid times and juggling so many parts to come to a sale of her family's brand. Brilliant!
How is she brilliant when the team ended up getting sold?
Thank you for this video. You can tell the sell still haunts Claire, but glad she's optimistic about the future of the team in other hands.
Absolutely, it's fascinating to see 🙌
After how she shafted her brother Jonathan...she rightly should feel haunted....👎👎👎
@@_Ben4810 that a strong statement Ben, explanation?
@@_Ben4810 Her father made a correct judgement about who was more suitable. She took her chance…obviously.
You inherited an absolute mess... be proud. You had podium cars under your leadership 🔥
🙌🙌
What leadership. They built one good car in 2014 and then fell backwards every season there after
@jacobmassey3897 better than Frank did for years.....
Lawrence Stroll cleaning her out didn’t help at all.
I was smitten by Claire and still am. I love this woman. What an amazing human being despite how it all worked out in the end.
I know she agonized over selling her father's business, but it was inevitable. Times are very different now to when her Father was running the show back in the day. It has become a very cut throat and sometimes brutal sport.
Claire. You are still my Hero. All my love to you Dear.
She’s simply not cut out to be a team boss. It puzzles me how Sir Frank has two sons, yet his only daughter was the one who took interest in running his F1 squad.
And nothing to do with box ticking feminist appeasing quotas. Huge respect for what she did. 😎
Always had a soft spot for Claire Williams :-)
🙌🙌
I always liked Claire, now I see why. She's on of the most honest and candid person in the business. The legacy will never die completely.
A Willams fan since the mid 80s, ((I still have a pair of Cannon Williams sneakers)), I have nothing but respect for all you did to fight. I cannot even imagine the challenges you faced, not only to run an F1 team, but to try and compete in the modern manufacturer funded world of F1. Handing the team off to someome who is continuing the fight under the Willaims name was brilliant. Thank you for all you gave.
Absolutely correct 🙌
Jog on
Love you Claire, you did a great job under dire circumstances. My heart breaks just listening to this and remembering that time-brutal.💔🏁
Absolutely, it must be an incredibly hard decision to make 🙌
I miss Claire. Hope she comes back to F1 in some way.
Absolutely, she's amazing 🙌
She should go do something in the Academy women series. She’d be really helpful in progressing it
I met a retired guy from (Hewland?) gearboxes from back in the nineties and he said that even then, Frank was the worst person to get bills paid etc. Evidently Williams had a reputation for never having any money..
It's pretty tough when in F1 🙌
The only independent team that has ever had big-team levels of money is Red Bull.
Red Bull weren’t around in those days though, (the really big teams then were Williams, McLaren and Ferrari)
@@philtucker1224 I never said they were around back then. I said the only independent team that has ever had "big team money" is RBR. All the other independent teams (including, but certainly far from limited to, Williams and McLaren) have had regular problems with lack of funds.
@@philtucker1224 Never said they were around back then. Said they've been the only independent team that has ever had "big-team levels of money." Every other indepdendent team has suffered regularly from not having enough money.
I think we all have a soft spot for Claire. She done a great job in a very tough world of F1 I meet Frank once at Brands Hatch back in the late 80’s and this will always stay in my memory for ever. Great open & honest interview.
Absolutely, she is a great human being 🙌
Probably a genuinely nice human, but by no means a great team principal
Nice little interview. I think anyone who loves F1 would love to see Williams up at the top again. I was a Silverstone in '92 when Red 5 won, oh my god what a day. The cars, the noise, the crowd and of course our Nige. I still look back with a smile at that amazing day. Awesome. To see passionate people running F1 teams, regardless of their family name, is how it is now. Zak Brown is a good example, loves any form of motorsport but McLaren is his world. Good to see these names remaing in the f1 world
Absolutely, she opened up incredibly well 🙌
Would be good to get these ex team owners on a panel to help reshape F1.
You can't buy experience, be it good ones or bad ones... A panel of ex team bosses would be a really good Idea, particularly from when money was not king in F1 but knowledge was to be on hand to advise if things (like they do) get stupid or out of hand like they occasionaly do now.
Absolutely, it would be brilliant 🙌
To me, Claire has all the traits of a high-value, classy lady. I have missed her in Formula One, and I am so glad to see her appear in the Drive to Survive Netflix series again. I have the greatest respect for this lady, she has done her father proud. I think Formula One should keep her in the media, as she is a great asset to them. In life, we all make difficult choices, but knowing you have done the right one is a blessing, as Claire did.
I've missed her too 🙌
@TheRacingPilot Why?
Frank Williams the name will never be forgotten in F1......🇬🇧🇬🇧
When Newey left, Williams never ran at the front again. Great women who bowed out gracefully 🙏
Not exactly true. Newey left in the late 90s to go to McLaren but Williams had a front running, race winning and nearly championship challenging car from 2001 to 2004 when Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya were driving for the team.
Absolutely, it was an impossible task 🙌
Rumour has it Mr Newey may be making a return, that would liven things up a bit.
She employed the guy who messed up the car no one else, she kept him on even as it was failing she defended him as it went down in flames. She destroyed the teams car and finances over a deal that should never have been done. Learn facts it was all on her.
Not at all. They had the best car in 2003.
Claire is clearly a highly talented woman. Frank would be so proud of what she achieved
In this scenario, we see the classic family business model, albeit on a grander scale. The father achieves significant success, but his true strength lies in operational efficiency rather than entrepreneurial acumen. Meanwhile, one of the children joins the company and rapidly ascends the corporate ladder, potentially bypassing more capable colleagues along the way. Despite the passage of time, the business culture remains largely unchanged from the father’s era. Unfortunately, the daughter’s lack of experience or innate talent results in outdated systems draining financial resources behind the scenes. Ultimately, the failure of Williams can be attributed in part to Frank, but it also reflects the broader issue of nepotism and the challenge of bridging generational gaps. Vowles has already highlighted that Williams was stuck in the past.
Yes and no. Momey rules nearly everything in that sport and unlike rbr and merc, claire didn't have bottomless pockets.
@@BobbyGeneric145 I agree but she couldn't attract sponsorship and that was what sunk them in the end.
@@pato10111 not really her job. Team principle might be the final handshake, but f1 teams have entire departments dedicated to sponsor acquisition.
@@BobbyGeneric145 she was the owner and TP. Everything is her job.
@@pato10111 ya i suppose thats right... Buck stops kinda deal. Although in some cases, like mclaren, I get the sense that the tp does a lot less.
I`ve always been a Williams fan since i can remember back around 1990. 2008 in Hungary 2009 in Turkey and 2011 in Italy, it felt like i`m the only one wear a cup, a shirt and cary a flag in the track. In 2020 half my heart stoped beating. I have to admit that i still keep an eye on the team even if the magic dust of the Williams family is gone!🏁😊✌
Absolutely, the heritage remains 🙌
Great and very honest interview, Claire is definitely a chip of the old block. We would all love to see Williams return to their former glory.
It's a special interview 🙌
Nice to hear from Claire, really liked her around F1
fantastic interview, Clare needs to be back in f1 and would be brilliant on sky
Absolutely, I would love to see her as a pundit 🙌
You did the best thing possible well done thank you. 😇🏴
🙌🙌
I always had time for Claire, it was a vicious cycle they were caught in. It was an impossible situation
Absolutely, tough job at a tough time!
Claire Frank Williams was a great friend of mine and my family as my family supported you during the Saudia Williams arecas we invested in your company and your car! Frank was a great man and great father and he and Patrick head were extremely good friends of my family at this era with James Hunt ! I’ll never ever forget and so him before he died with my kids ! Thank you Claire for this wonderful gift you gave the world with your dear family in the name of Williams 🙏🏻🇬🇧🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦🇸🇦🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧♥️
What an incredible family 🙌
Claire Williams: a VERY impressive person. It's a pity that the Williams team isn't Williams any longer... Greetings from Germany.
Some shoes are just too big to fill. I'm glad she tried to do right by her father, so she was brave, but an almost impossible task.
Absolutely, massive respect to her 🙌
Thank You for the production. Claire thank you, you look wonderful without all that stress. As I see it and appreciated what I saw as confidence, openness, no fear and wonderful
From South Africa
Problem in sport is that it is fickle and the way Claire conducted herself and the team should be held up as how everyone should deport themselves whether in sport or in business, glad you managed to get an interview with her.
Williams has always been my favorite F1 team, and I was really sad when Claire left and sold the team. In my heart, I honestly wish there was a way back in for her, would love to see her back and to see her have some success, to see Williams back at the top with the family still in charge.
Met her in the U.S. at the grand prix. Very smart and attractive woman. I hope she can somehow come back to F1.
Frank Williams - a legend. Claire Williams - an inspiration. Always admired Claire. If I was a billionaire, I would buy the team and give it back to them.
and thats why youre not a billonaire cuz youd lose it all on failures like Claire Williams
Thanks for your comment. We obviously have different values in life. And that’s fine. Have a great day.
Love that! 🙌
I bet it took a toll on her.. She felt she had to honor her fathers legacy, and she did.. Hope u get Newey back home, and Max in 26.. Good Luck
It's an incredibly hard job 🙌
Much love Claire ❤❤
Williams made me love F1 right from the beginning #red5
Love this! 🙌
To roll onto the track and take the wheel of Williams is an outstanding great achievement in it self .the courage the endless drive to compete would scare many away ,but Claire Williams can be very proud.
My dad helped design the Garret turbo for their cars back in the Mansell era. I was always very proud of that fact and had it mentioned during his eulogy at his funeral. Claire is lovely and did her best, but circumstances were against them. Williams name lives on.❤
You did the right thing
🙌🙌
why the music?
I miss seeing Claire on the team. She is a class act.
🙌🙌
I am very sorry to see what the Williams team is like today. They have no spare chassis, They are late in making parts. I hope and cheering for Williams to return to his old glory days.
It is sad to see, but much better than them not being around at all 🙌
Only a few words for Claire
" brave Honest and should be proud "
Am sorry that you had messages slagging you off! Was an awful shame that the team was sold, but hey things are picking up :)
🙌🙌
Claire is the genuine article, legend!
Absolutely!
Williams didn't appear an easy patrner. I thought they had it made with BMW but that came apart. And treatment of Damon Hill was appalling. Ditto of Mansell. Vowles and Dorillton however, seem to be highly professional and credible partners. Kudos to them.
I think those were times of the past, it's a new dawn! 🙌
They spent a lot of time dealing with Frank's poor decision making. Once he had driven enough quality team members, drivers and partners away the team had nothing.
Claire is a wonderful woman who really cared about the staff and everyone who worked at Williams
She was given a tough hand, just a touch too late with the spending limits
Absolutely 🙌
I hate the fact that there is no Senna-S anymore on the car. Once I spoke about with Frank Williams and I recognized that this was a very emotional thing for him. R.IP.
This gal really cared/cares for her folks, her team. The new owners would have had high hoops to jump through for her to agree on the sale. Respect.
I think you did an amazing job over the years. Your Dad was proud of you.
Feel sad for Claire, yes it was a hard call, but the brand goes on 👍🏻
Absolutely, it was sadly necessary 🙌
Williams were a great F1 team Clare did a great job keeping them going frank is a legend
The mistake was made by Frank years ago when he didn't sell part of the team to BMW when BMW wanted to buy.
Could definitely be said 🙌
Frank gave his whole life to racing and building a F1 car, it has been said that the day Frank married, straight after the ceremony he was back at the garage, when Frank eventually stepped down and Claire took over, it was difficult time, William’s F1 team has always been about the sport, nowadays its not about the sport but purely a business where big engine names can use F1 to sell their product. Its an understatement to say how ruthless it is now, and a family run team like Williams stand no chance of competing against the mighty big manufacturers.
Claire, you and your dad were the best where true sportsmanship mattered
I’m still rooting for Williams!
Absolutely! 🙌
I've always been in love with Claire Williams
Great leader - F1 should have a role for Claire - crying out for more diversity and she would inspire others to join, work or watch. Wish her well.
Also she destroyed Williams due to incompetence
Absolutely, can't wait to see what she does next 🙌
Everything is different but letting go of something you love that's in the family, you never get over it. You think about it everyday
I have to admit I like Claire there is something about her, but that aside what balls she had to take on a massive headache with Williams, she tried really hard and you can tell she put her heart and sole into trying to bring William's back to the front of the grid, and seeing how things were going she was right to sell and protect the jobs and the team name so it didn't just dissappear
Well done Claire would be great to meet her time and say well done you ❤
She wasn't Principal material. Being the offspring of a great leader doesn't make you one.
Claire is a wonderful and highly intelligent person. Frank would be so proud !
Claire you will come back in F1
, miss you so much.
No, she won't.
Claire will always be The Queen of F1
🙌🙌
Clair you are a number one ceo x
with the music copyright thing TH-cam implements , I hope TH-cam does not pocket the advertiser money themselves , they make out they are protecting the artists content and if they truly are, I would hope the money goes to the people that they say they are protecting and not steal it from both artist and content creator
You did a great job, Williams will always be my favourite team though Fw 15 and 16 beat the world, I think I met you once, did you own a Weimaraner?
🙌🙌
You are fantastic..just needed to play the game $$$$$$
Love Claire. Would have loved to see Williams-Honda. Make Williams great again competing with McLaren
I remember one year they turned up at the first test of the season without a complete car. As Claire says they did not have enough money to compete. F1 is a money game nowadays.
Well nothing is forever, well done you give it your best
Claire you are amazing. I'm sure you made the correct decision.
What? Selling what her father spent 40 years to build because she was incompetent
🙌🙌
Glad to see Claire getting a fair shake. Seems like a wonderful woman from an incredible family. No excuses and faced it all head on.
"Getting a fair shake?" Are you for real?
Skip the spoilers by starting at around 0:48 YW
F1 was always expensive, but when Claire was having a go, it's cost sooo much
I have always had a crush on Claire! Could have got them through the tough patch!
Claire you are wonderful. Real and unaffected! Be well.
🙌🙌
Where have the last 4 years gone?? Can’t believe it’s been 4 years already.
I know right!
You're all that Claire & a bag of chips 💪🏁
I really feel they should've started buying parts from other teams much earlier instead of developing every part of the car themselves, why build your own gearbox, focus the time and money on where lap time is gained, I'm sure people thought about it, just not sure why they didn't.
I would agree with that, I felt they had so much pride
@TheRacingPilot and where did that pride get them lol. They were foolish and her ego was the size of the universe. Should have been more humble.
My very much respect to you and the Williams family/team.
Love this 🙌
Claire is a Princess Boss. BOW DOWN YOU FOOLS
🙌🙌
I stopped following Dorilton Capitol when they removed the Senna logos, I'm not sure if it was because of money but the whole thing was weird.
Claire shoud have realuzed to change the business model i.e. look at HAAS where they pretty much outsource all their parts. It would have meant layoffs within the Williams organization for Claire but nonetheless they would have kept it within the family. Difficult decision that should have been done in 2014 or 2015 at the start of the turbo-hybrid era.
Hass also has the backing of a massive business and all there contacts
@@neiltitmus9744 - HAAS doesn't have the F1 know-how. HAAS entered F1 in the costliest times of F1. Sure they're a backmarker team, but so was Williams.
I would argue that's probably correct, F1 is a fast adapting sport 🙌
The vicious circle of needing to be at front to get mega sponsorship money, but needing mega sponsorship to get to the front bit Williams hard. It’s a great shame they had to sell the team but the name lives on in F1 as it should.
Vowles can and will make improvements based on his experience at Mercedes. Would be great to see Williams climb back up the field.
F1 not the same without the Williams name well done on saving it.
Love Claire Williams , she should be proud of both her and her father’s achievements, hope she returns to the grid one day.
Williams F1 wether Claire or Frank or anyone else will ALWAYS be the best F1 team on the planet ( I am biased). Claire was brave , strong and an awesome Lady.
It must be really tough being independent facing the likes of Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault with the might of a massive car company behind them.
Clare is a phenomenal person. She was so brave, leading a team in a male dominated sport with all the struggles that a privateer team faces. She's a credit to the sport, women leaders and the Williams name.
Stop talking your PC nonsense.
It just sucks out that the little guy can't compete.
It really does 😔

She is one classy lady
47 years old! 😮
She did a terrible job. It’s sad to see Williams doing badly. I grew up with them being dominant.
She was dealt an incredibly hard hand however
All the hate at the time for Claire was completely unjust. Arm chair critics casting views about a job none of them could even begin to understand or manage. Williams will always be an iconic F1 team regardless of ownership. I’m sure Frank was proud of your efforts Claire and trying to step up.
