It’s due to the size of Monaco. It’s so small(only a few hundred acres in total) so it is a principality rather than a kingdom. Hence, it’s monarch is a Prince, not a King. Although, as a sovereign Prince, he is of a higher rank than princes and princesses who are just the children of kings and queens.
