    Hi, seeing your Pic of crossing the biscay reminds me of our trip 42 years ago doing just what you are now. We sailed from la Rochelle to Gijon with very similar conditions. The coastline you are now going to explore is just magical. And then around the corner are the famous rias. You might one day remember this part of your trip as one of the best also because it is al new . Cheers Peter.

      @@peterschouten-ys8yr glad we could evoke some lovely memories for you Peter. Northern Spain is for sure a beautiful part of the world and we loved it! Although… there is some swell there 😂 more on that later….!

    Awesome video you three 🙏👍 glad all was well with the orcas that day. Can’t wait to do the same passage next year. Looking forward to your next ones and to hear what your plans are next summer, more Mediterranean? Thanks

    Well done Yewy and crew. 200nm - a big first and bragging rights on an Orca encounter too. I like the channel a lot having just caught up with the back-watch. Keep up standard and good old NE common sense.

    Well done! Did you report the Orca interaction? The Cruising Association are compiling research on all interactions , in conjunction with European bodies. Hope you are all well. Best wishes from Dartmouth. James

    As you get further south watch for the fishing boats with miles of drift net, at night, shot east west. They should have flashing buoys with radar reflectors but don't bank on it. Gan canny.

    Nice video and luck was on your side with the Orcas! As I understand it, if you cleared into the EU in France then you don’t have to do it again when you arrive in another EU country?

    • @sailinghjem

      @@Ken-fe4cg thanks! No, you don’t if you’re in your Schengen days, which we weren’t as we had a French long stay visa. Still no idea what to do, neither did anyone else. Officials differed from person to person!

      Some of the red white flashing lights may be wind turbines depending how far you are off France , if you find your in close company with orcas again you could always try dropping your sails and going in circles in reverse under engine , just don’t do what the Spanish coastguard tell you to do ,witch is switch everything off and sit there like a lame duck especially when you get closer to finister or barbete

    You seem like very pleasant folks. But the drama seems oversold. The sailing seemed completely calm, then you motored, had breakfast, saw some orcas for a moment and arrived. Was there any real danger, or incidents or that justifies the self-drama. I guess you need drama if your soliciting patrons but this seems like what most folks would encounter on a day sailing. Good luck with your adventures

    s a sailor… red white red, means nor able to move…That’s in colregs. When flashing it could be government / research vessel. A special marker. One that’s not moving. Its confusing, because a red light flashing is dangerous cargo, or fishing white flashing in sea state can look like flashing but may be just the waves.

    • @sailinghjem
      @sailinghjem  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@waltervanderboor yeah, we know this, but despite the Yachtmaster theory and years sailing around, we hadn’t seen light pattern before! Incidentally red, white, red means restricted in ability to manoeuvre rather than not able to move.

      @@sailinghjem Wait until you get to Asia, here people have their own interpretation of safety and lights for boats. Hence tugs at night with zero lights and small fisherman with either nothing or half a city of lights in rainbow colors.

      @ looks to be an amazing part of the world. Do you get much mould with the temperature and humidity? If so, how do you deal with it?
