Love to see you go from 'do I even like reading anymore' recently to 'I love books and reading, isn't it magical' because you found that perfect five star! It's such a wonderful feeling to read something that reminds you why you love it :)
Seeing you and Tom interact is so cute :') This is my petition for more Tom on the channel, would love to hear more from you about the realities of reading multiple books every week and I'm sure Tom's perspective on that must be iconic. I know you aren't the vlogging type but (as someone who is also in the trenches of balancing work, family life, and having a boyfriend with a love of reading) I'd love to see how you genuinely make it all happen. Anyways thank you for another fab video :) I have ADHD and watching your content while I do the hard things me makes my days so so much more manageable
The look on your face when he says skullduggery was priceless and I loved 🥰 it prayers and blessings for you and your families love your Aussie family friend John xxx I agree about the trees with the long books 📚
I read Pachinko a few months ago and I still cannot stop thinking about it. Definitely an incredible book and the writing was gorgeous. I know exactly what part you’re talking about when you say it made you stop and cry, the same happened for me. The way she drops those moments is earth shattering.
I find it so interesting that some people just recommend their favorite books and some people recommend things that maybe they didn’t enjoy (or wouldn’t enjoy), but they think you will. I think I’m more the second type of person, but maybe that’s connected to the fact that I consume a lot of content about books, so I have lots of books I could recommend even if I haven’t read them 😅
I’m in my 30s and I have to say that I not only enjoy the skullduggery series, I still keep up with it today and have read every one up until the newest one. It’s actually a really dark series
It seems you enjoy a historical epic! I’ve been scared to read Pachinko but you motivated me to give it a try soon. Ragtime by E L Doctorow is great if you want to try another classic one :)
Oh my goodness! You’re so brave! I never ever ever let anyone pick my books! Ever! Even if they picked from my own bookshelf 😆😆. You’re a good sport….good on for reading Tom’s picks. Loved the kitties 😻😻
So fun to see you read and love wolf hall!! I was also a history, and often Tudor- obsessed girlie growing up and I haven’t read the book but I loved the show
I'm reading the Skulduggery series now. I enjoy reading it as a palate cleanser between heavier books. For me not every book has to be a 5 star. I like that I can just tune out and have fun.
Meg, I would LOVE to see you read Isabelle Allende (House of the Spirits, Violeta) for exceptional generational, female-centric storytelling set in South America!
Now I'm really curious if you would like Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. I also read Beast Quest as a child, my mum brought them in from the library so my big brother would read but the only one picking them up in the end was me. I agree they would not have been the better choice 😂
I've loved Skulduggery Pleasant since I was a young girl and have never met anyone who has read the books, I've still only read 4 books and I reread the first two last year, loved them just as much, imo the first book doesn't feel like set-up at all, it's just not trying to be more than it is - a fun action-adventure middle grade ❤ it's kinda giving shounen anime in book form
I’m just through the Pachinko review but whoa… I own it so I’m gonna read it now. I know it takes one heck of a book for you to give this kind of review Meg so I loved seeing that. And your footage of that bird, near the ocean in the sun was stunning, beautiful!
My husband isn’t a huge reader either but I have definitely got him into audiobooks and it has been soooo fun. Any long carride we usually pick a book to read together
It's so interesting how different people absorb books. I HATED the writing of pachinko and felt it removed the humanity from the characters. Also cannot deal with switching perspectives every paragraph. The characters didn't seem to care what was happening to them so I didn't either
We stan a historical fiction loving King! I also am not super into fantasy, I very much prefer scifi first, then historical fiction 2nd, then literary fiction 3rd. (I think you and tom might like the pelinor series though, despite being fantasy its YA/NA fantasy and its got world building but it isn't capital F fantasy if that makes sense)
Great. Now I have to read that book. Smh. Btw- if you enjoy Asian generational stories you should pick up Daughters of the New Year. I am an audiobook person. I'm a slow slow reader. I read Daughters of the New Year over 2 days. It was thick, but so so good. It was kind of heart breaking, but it felt so honest. 💜
I would highly recommend The Covenant of Water since you loved Pachinko. It's also a multi-generation saga with stunnning writing. I liked Pachinko more but The Covenant of Water was still one of my favorite books that I read last year. Side note, I do not really recommend Pachinko the Apple TV series. It wasn't bad, but the timeline is chopped up so I think it takes away from the connection you feel for the characters and the emotional impact was severely lacking. One of my favorite sections of the book was during WWII but in the show they do a complete offshoot episode that I just didn't love distracting from the rest of it.
I would really recommend "The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois" by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers as another really good multigenerational book! If you haven't read it already 😅
Have you read My Lady Jane? It’s a magical feminist historical retelling of Lady Jane Grey and the audiobook narrator is so good! It’s a really fun book. It was one of my few 5 stars this year. I feel like you’d love it!
Tom... what the heck? Pick books you think SHE would like, not books YOU like. I'd like to recommend audio books of Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera - loved it so much - 5 stars and The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. I gave it 5 stars too. And I'm in the middle of audiobook Wedding People by Alison Espach and I am LOVING it.
Tom coming through with the absolute door stoppers
Love to see you go from 'do I even like reading anymore' recently to 'I love books and reading, isn't it magical' because you found that perfect five star! It's such a wonderful feeling to read something that reminds you why you love it :)
Yes! That's 100% me during and after a reading slump
pachinko is one of my favorite books!! so glad you loved it!!

Meg talking about being half Irish but complaining about reading Skulduggery Pleasant which is the pinnacle of Irish childhood 😂
I read Pachinko a few months ago and I still cannot stop thinking about it. Definitely an incredible book and the writing was gorgeous. I know exactly what part you’re talking about when you say it made you stop and cry, the same happened for me. The way she drops those moments is earth shattering.

Skullduggery Pleasant is to this day my favourite fantasy series lol I met Derek Landry this year and it was amazing!
I’ve had Pachinko on my TBR for so long and you’re making me want to drop everything and read it now! Haha ❤
I’m in my 30s and I have to say that I not only enjoy the skullduggery series, I still keep up with it today and have read every one up until the newest one. It’s actually a really dark series
Tom rocking some 90’s vibes with his hair 😂 love seeing it
OMG OMG Skulduggery Pleasant!!!
It seems you enjoy a historical epic! I’ve been scared to read Pachinko but you motivated me to give it a try soon. Ragtime by E L Doctorow is great if you want to try another classic one :)
you two are absolutely adorable. I haven't heard of any of the books that are listed but definitely added to my neverending TBR :)
Next year you could participate on the irish readathon. It's great fun, there's so many great Irish writers ❤
Mico is so cute :D I love cats. And your channel! It is my comfort channel :) Thanks for the videos.
Oh my goodness! You’re so brave! I never ever ever let anyone pick my books! Ever! Even if they picked from my own bookshelf 😆😆. You’re a good sport….good on for reading Tom’s picks. Loved the kitties 😻😻
LOVE Tom's attitude. Good lad.
the way i immediately added pachinko to my tbr after your review
Skullduggery Pleasant was my childhood - tom picked good !!!
So fun to see you read and love wolf hall!! I was also a history, and often Tudor- obsessed girlie growing up and I haven’t read the book but I loved the show

Putting 'Pachinko' on my TBR. You and your boyfriend are so cute! So is your cat!! Love!
Meg, I would LOVE to see you read Isabelle Allende (House of the Spirits, Violeta) for exceptional generational, female-centric storytelling set in South America!
Omg you visited Oxford!! 😍 I've lived there all my life so I love it there lol
Aww this was so sweet!! 💚
Not me currently re-reading the Skulduggery Pleasant series because it was my favourite when i was like 12 😅
Have you though of like randomizing your tbr and do an episode where « fate recommends you book » ?
This was so cute! Especially the middle grade recommendation 😂
Now I'm really curious if you would like Johnathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.
I also read Beast Quest as a child, my mum brought them in from the library so my big brother would read but the only one picking them up in the end was me. I agree they would not have been the better choice 😂
oh yeees I've been waiting for this episode! 🙌
I really enjoyed this video!
I've been saying you need to go more Lit Fic! That is always what you describe when you say what you like
I've loved Skulduggery Pleasant since I was a young girl and have never met anyone who has read the books, I've still only read 4 books and I reread the first two last year, loved them just as much, imo the first book doesn't feel like set-up at all, it's just not trying to be more than it is - a fun action-adventure middle grade ❤ it's kinda giving shounen anime in book form

Have you read The Overstory? The structure is literally tree-inspired - roots, trunk, branches
your description of the skullduggery pleasant audiobook had me like, on the floor laughing😂
cats picking a tbr should be next
37:30 I spat out my salad 😂😂
It's so interesting how different people absorb books. I HATED the writing of pachinko and felt it removed the humanity from the characters. Also cannot deal with switching perspectives every paragraph. The characters didn't seem to care what was happening to them so I didn't either
Why does Tom sound like Christian Bale? 😂 Petion to get him to do some batman lines 😂😂😂

You should read Peach Spring Blossom!! Another multigenerational story!
Great. Now I have to read that book. Smh.
Btw- if you enjoy Asian generational stories you should pick up Daughters of the New Year.

Fair play sounds fun though!!
we're never gonna live this down are we
I remember being obsessed with the tudors when I was like nine (Horrible Histories fans unite)
I would really recommend "The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois" by Honorée Fanonne Jeffers as another really good multigenerational book! If you haven't read it already 😅
Yessss it’s megwithbooks Sunday!! If you hate pachinko I’m gonna throw up
OMGGGGGG 5 STARS!!! *insert Gemma Collin’s cheering reaction video* pachinko was my favorite book of last year I’m glad you loved it!!
I’ve been intimidated by wolf hall but intrigued because I love history and court/political intrigue. You’ve convinced me to give it a shot!!
Tom did so well!! Tomwithbooks reading vlog when? 🙂↕️
i am ready ☕️
Have you read My Lady Jane? It’s a magical feminist historical retelling of Lady Jane Grey and the audiobook narrator is so good! It’s a really fun book. It was one of my few 5 stars this year. I feel like you’d love it!
5:18 had me giggling for real 🤣
Next wrap up series being the longest books on your tbr?? 👀
26:41 me to my boyfriend lol I bought him an ebook to try to convince him to read more but he has only read 0.5 books in the last year and a half 😂
If Tom loves pachinko I think he’d love Beartown by fredrik backman too!
@@Maddiereads8 maddie it’s like you READ MY MIND because that’s the next book I’m giving him hahahaha
Meg you’d love Bad Men by Julie Mae Cohen, I promise 😇
I’m 28 and started reading the skullduggery series and I enjoyed them - not sure what that says about me 😂
the fact that nobody talks about the book called Manifestation Hacks by Olivia Cooper speaks volumes about how people are stuck in a trance.
I'm EARLY?!? WOOOO time to watch😁
As an Oriental saying, your boyfriend and you have husband and wife faces, haha!
😢😢❤❤❤
