I went to New York Boy's State through the American Legion back in 2012 during my Junior year of high school. We were divided into platoons, and each platoon was given a Marine. I wish I knew the words to this then, because on the last day the Marines let us sing our own cadences.

Probably shouldn't have watched this movie before I enlisted in the Army in 1983. It took a couple of months but I was eventually permitted to call the cadence during a morning PT run. I broke into doo-wah Diddy only to discover while the platoon was willing, at least 70% were completely tone deaf. Well, I tried.

Camp Pendleton, 1983 as a young Marine Lance Corporal in the field, I was tasked with marching the platoon out of the boonies and back to the bivouac area. As we came into view off the tents, I struck up this song. The laughter was overwhelming from the guys in the bivouac area. The Marines I was marching, begged me to keep it going as I had them instep singing this song.

Peter Venkman was in the United States Army. After his years of service were over, he left. He took up parapsychology. He then formed the team of ghostbusters with Spengler, Stantz, and Zeddemore. After a decade of brutal combat, facing other dimensional creatures and ghosts, listening to the bombardment of artillery shells, facing death in war, he had suffered severe shell shock and PTSD. He became a meteorologist searching for a calm and peaceful job. It was so bad in fact, that he swore the same day kept repeating over and over, but he still couldn't escape the PTSD. He claimed to have experienced the same day over and over, no matter what he did, he could not get of the loop caused by such hardcore service to humanity and to his nation.

My brother-in-law was one of the drill sergeants in the movie.
When I asked him about it years later at the family reunion, he said Bill Murray was a joker. He rubbed out his Cochran's during one of the down times of the movie, that caused him to go change his boots - you don't run around with junkie Cochran's and be a drill sergeant.
    True story.

The movies of 40 years ago where outstanding. I was in the Army in 77 and 78 it shows how basic. Was back then. I ended up in Germany in Babenhausen, they burned witches there 500 years ago at witches tower. They had an air calvary unit behind us a quarter Mile away. Once driving near Rampart Station in LA I heard a helicopter sounded awful taking off, it crashed a few days later.
The cast in the movie were great, most xlnt stars and movies, much appreciated

Parts of this movie, mostly the part that they're in boot camp, were filmed at Ft. Knox. There is a scene that I recognized as the area that was known as the boot camp reception area. I went through boot camp there in 1982.

Went to Basic at Fort Knox KY, in 1991, Even got my initial haircut at the same barbershop as in the movie. They had autographed photos of Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and John Candy on the walls. I did whats called OSUT (One Station Unit Training) it was basic and AIT combined into 19 weeks of basic training. Later in my time in Army i got stationed at Friedberg Germany the same place Elvis was stationed, Ate Chow at the Elvis Presley Dinning hall almost every day. Had some Great times in the Army Made a lot of new friends. Served 18 months at Fort Stewart GA, 4 years in Germany, then 4 years at Fort Hood Texas.
