I’m taking the show as canon because it’s the most objective point of view we have on the events surrounding the Dance of Dragons. The books are so biased it’s ridiculous, it’s propaganda especially for male primogeniture in Westeros with the exception of Dorne and Maesters don’t have a favorable opinion of Dorne on that topic. And the opinion of bastards too in Dorne. The deeply rooted belief that women can rule and do rule too. The books are so slanted. It’s nice getting a what happened account.
I loved this episode so much. Definitely captured the excitement of Rhaenyra’s first exposure to the real real Also- it included my favorite Harwin Strong moment of all. I started simping him from the rabbit skinning moment in episode 3 but THIS moment with the way he looked at Rhae with that smile in his eyes and smirk on his lips then grunted - THAT was what made me a hardcore fan. Then he and Daemon give each other the nod. Harwin knew what was goin down and approved- kept her secret. They were low key building the attraction before the audiences eyes.
Two important things we learned about Rhaenyra in this episode - (1) she has a typically arrogant view (for a noblewoman and Targaryen) of the smallfolk, telling Daemon that "their wants are of no consequence". (and that arrogance will ultimately cost her); (2) she can and will lie easily. That doesn't make Rhaenyra evil; but she's not a great role model or hero in my opinion. The 'potion' that is brought to Rhaenyra at the end is "moon tea"; a common herbal medicinal herbal tea used in Westeros to prevent or abort pregnancies.
Her diplomacy and ability to command order also leaves a lot to be desired. She made quite some enemies with the way she dismissed her suitors (and people in general really; looking back on her interactions with the Redwynes and Lannisters), not to metion letting one of them murder another... The first of many mistakes to come.

Yes, some of them were tiresome, but that elderly lord who she dismissed so easily had stood in line and waiting to make his case as a possible husband, as had the young boy, and Rhaenyra displayed her immaturity in treating them so ungraciously. Ditto Jason Lannister - yes, he's a pompous somewhat sexist sort of guy, but he made a polite and flattering proposal to Rhaenyra and she could have treated him with more courtesy. Also, she was quite catty/ungracious to him at the pre-wedding feast later. Rhaenyra expects people to cater to her desires and whims almost all the time; except on rare occasions, when she is older, she makes an offer that she hopes will mend some fences with Alicent. Yes, that scene with the Redwyne lady was sad. Rhaenyra should have been making the rounds, socially, beginning to build alliances of her own instead of whining "No one's here for me" - she should have been making them want to be there for her. Especially since she was a young, pretty, lively princess and nominal heir to the Iron Throne.
Never mind uncle Daemon his niece Rhaenyra wanted it more then him. Blame him when they are going to do it. Then blame him when he doesn’t and leaves her hot and bothered. Then goes off and practically grapes the help.

This scene between Rhaenyra and Alicent was too real, because Alicent is squeezing out heirs for the king in a castle, and I don’t think that Rhaenyra thought about that before she said what she said

In the book she *was* engaged to the sealord of Bravos's son, but Daemon provoked him until he challenged him to a duel, during which Daemon killed him...conveniently freeing her up to marry him.
Braavos is not heridetary monarchy. You can think of it as Laena was betrothed to the son of ex president. Daemon killing him in a duel freed Velaryons of no longer valuable pact and gaining dragonrider to their cause.
Cole might not have said no, might have even decided to hell with it. But did he ever have the option to actually say no? Considering what happens if they even suspect impropriety…
