  • This is a short video showing the Box Turtle Automated Filament Changer (AFC) in action on my Voron Trident. This video was taken after numerous tweaks to my AFC configuration and macros. I'm still having issues with the filament respool motors but all other functions are good.

This is SOOO much quieter than Bambu Lab X1C + AMS!

It can be quieter but I find a lot of the noise with the BambuLab X1C is the printing movements themselves and not so much the filament swaps.

Why not let klipper calculate colourchange so it can change while printing infill so it can continu printing , saving lot of timeand maybe a small bit of dualcolour but is in print itself as infill ?!

Purge to Infill is an option that can be setup via the slicer. For now, the project is choosing to not use the slicer settings and keep everything in the AFC-Klipper-Add-On software.

This is super cool, any chance that it could work on the Creality K1?

This solution 'should' work with the Creality K1 provided you have access to the Klipper host as you would need to install the AFC_Klipper_Add_On software. This would mean jailbreaking your K1 which would invalidate any warranty from Creality. It might be worth waiting to see if the Creality CFS is back ported to the K1 series or if they only intend it for the K2 series.

@@digitaldragon72 Thanks for the info, Creality have at least been OK with rooting the K1 and even sent me a replacement Print Head PCB when it died on me, no questions asked. My warranty already expired back in July, and since then I have modded my K1 to fix some of the early issues Creality had with the V1.
I am waiting to see what the K1 CFS system will look like, and more importantly, what it will cost and how it affects the mods I have (linear rail / flanged bearings). This project could be a fine alternative if the CFS is too pricey or needs to much regression on my printer.

WTF is with that Canbus cable?

I wanted to make my Box Turtles easily interchangable for testing purposes. This modularity also means that I only need to remove the PTFE tube and unplug the CANBUS cable from the side skirt to transport them. This made it a LOT easier to transport them to 3D Printopia as I could protect the printers with moving blankets and the Box Turtles could be safely packed in a rolling foot locker. The CANBUS cable itself is the one that comes with the BTT MMB board.

How do you like it compared to other MMUs out there?

I am liking it a lot. So far it has taken me less time to tune than the ERCFv2 that I built. The MMU3 on a Prusa MK4 has been the best overall experience as it worked beautifully out of the box. The BambuLab AMS is a great product and also tightly integrated with their ecosystem just not open source.

Is that fan making noise or some Coils going bad?

    • @digitaldragon72

The noise is the HoneyBadger 5015 part cooling fan in my Stealthburner. I need to disassemble the front shroud and determine if there is something rubbing the fan, or if it is just not happy for some reason.
