    Good comparison. The 110 seems more obvious choice for traditional headshots and will probably be to great pair it with the 55 when it arrives. The 80 however renders beautifully and would be my choice as a one lens all-rounder for enviromental portraits. There's also an option of using the 80 in FF mode if you absolutely need the compression.

      I agree, after receiving the GF55mm F1.7 I feel like the 80 is almost too close in terms of the look im getting (plus the GF55 is both sharper and focuses faster than the 80 despite lacking the LM of the 110) so that I'm now considering buying back the 110mm.

    Great comparison. I just ordered a GF110mm on ebay. I've used my 200mm f/2 on my Fuji APSC camera, and that lens will flatten their faces, lol. Crazy bokeh, good for full length portraits, but flat faces close up. My best lens on my FF, is the Zeiss 135mm f/2, but I don't use that camera anymore. It's crazy to me how on the GFX forums, people always say the 80mm is more versatile than the 110mm, acting like the 110mm is a one-trick pony. Then when the 55mm f/1.7 came out, people are saying the 55mm is better than the 80mm, and so on. I think at some point, they just want an ultrawide for everything, lol. They never think about facial compression, which is what a real portrait photographer is concerned with. One guy even said that the 55mm was the best portrait lens, because "People generally prefer the wider-angle portraits" in his experience. I'm pretty sure he's just projecting his shiny new toy on people. The 110mm is king, I can't wait to use it.

      I agree! It’s nice to have options but you can’t compare a 110 to a 55. They are both great but totally different use cases. I’ll eventually buy the 55. Fuji loaned it to me and it’s incredible but you have to want that look. The 110 is still probably my favorite lens. The way it renders is more organic than anything else I have.

    When you are a photographer that comes from large format cameras, such as view camera, you understand that the perspective is given by the position of the focal plane, and that you use the focal length of the lens to fill the frame, not to determine the perspective.
    In other words, the lenses do not determine the perspective or the compression of an image, where you shoot does.
    Generally, to obtain a “natural” perspective it is a good idea to take the shoot at about 4.5 / 5 times the distance of the depth of the subject. For example, if your model is leaning against a wall sited on the ground with the legs forward and from the feet to the wall the distance is around 1 meter, to have a natural perspective you should shoot from about 5 meters from the face.
    Then, depending on the focal length of the lens, you can have an ambient portrait, a full body portrait, a close up and so on.
    Classical mistake (unless it is a deliberate choice made by someone that knows how perspective is controlled (no by the lens)) is to take a full body shoot filling the frame with a relatively short focal length, which results in getting much too closer, and you obtain an image with big feet and a relatively small face. If you use the same short focal length from the correct point of view you can obtain a natural looking image of the wall (maybe with a graffiti) and the person, maybe the artist, underneath.
    Thus, the 80mm is a great choice not for closeups, but for ambient portraits or family portraits.
    The 110 is good for lots of half body classical portrait.
    If you desire a natural looking close-up, you could crop (normally not a problem with 100 or 150 MP cameras) an image taken with the 110 from the correct distance, or you can consider using the 250mm, which allows you to fill the frame with the face from a correct perspective to obtain a natural looking portrait.

      I'm shooting weddings and I'm just wondering whether the 110 would be better because I can be a bit further back and still get some beautiful photos. I have the 50 517 and I was wondering whether the 55 1.7 and the gap is too big and whether I should go for the 80.

    I bought the 110mm awhile back and don't regret it one bit! Looking to pair it with the up coming 55mm 1.7 prime too!

    It's also comparing 64mm vs 85mm in terms of full frame. The 80mm f/1.7 has a vintage vibe, so it's not so clinical as the 110mm, on top of that it creates fringing.
    Personally I love the 80mm, I've done a lot of stuff with it, I could make a whole tutorial about it, because I shot concerts for one year with it and it's really tricky, some ppl hate it. But it has some magic that I can't explain. Everything looks good trough this lens.
    I use the 45-100mm for portraits and fashion, when I shoot on f/8 or f/11 and that's why I skipped the 110mm for the moment.

      Yes I’m really starting to enjoy the 80 now that I’m doing boudoir in tighter Settings , like apartments and lofts. I think it really shines there. I just need the 100s to make the process a bit faster.

    110 just steps over to looking more polished/professional in the same hands for closer shots. Bellow f2 moves an image to the amateur instagram photographer filter look. It is more about focal length but the shallow depth of field coupled with it may work for face only but clothing needs to have some detail..

    • @SNAPAVELI
      @SNAPAVELI  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree!! If I’m doing more wardrobe or a wild makeup shoot I always stop down to show everything, you still get nice fall off at higher f stops on the 110

    Great tutorial my friend.
    I own Sony system with 24-70f2.8 85mm f1.4 as my mean lenses.
    How ever I’m going to into medium format and Fuji has a special place in my heart-I’m my film days I only use Fuji film for everything. So the GFX 100s is definitely my choice model.
    Now I know you use prime lenses for your beauty shoot 110f/2.0 and yes I see what you saying but I need a lens for my family portrait and single maybe two people in the Portrait.
    What about the GF zoom 45-100mm f4 for the GFX 100s?

    • @SNAPAVELI
      @SNAPAVELI  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a great question. I’ve yet to try the zooms, I’ve tried 45, 63, 80 110. I own all except the 63. You can Never go wrong with a zoom , but f4 is a bit limiting.

      @@SNAPAVELI Yes and are absolutely right.
      The GF 110mm f2 from what showed are well pronounced in your images samples.
      And for fashion that GF 110 is perfect 👍🏽.
      I’m a portrait photographer and I do families and single Portraits and I’m changing my shoot style to painterly Portrait. That’s why I want to move over to MF-I had my eyes on the Hasselblad 2XD but that was waayyy out of my price range and I stumbled on the GFX 100s and that blow me away with Fuji new technology and focus. How ever aside from the 45-100mm f4 for single Portrait I would definitely get the GF 110mm f2. The
      GF 45-100mm f4 is for group photos.
      Ps. I looove your work 👍🏽 I wish I could get some of those images so I can study them on my MacBook Pro computer-I just want to see what you saw it help me to even or encourage me to buy the Fuji GFX 100s.
      If you could I would very much appreciate that. Thanks in advance.

    Hey dude, I'm wondering whether you've actually upgraded to the GFX 100S ii if you haven't, you should man I'm using that camera and I'm loving it with my portrait Photography. It's so much better focus you'll be nailing all of those shot shots. You will not miss the auto eye. Focus in the new cameras is phenomenal. Don't get the 100 II get the 100s II

    Disregard my comment in your other video ... I am new to the channel and didn't realize you did this comparison already. In terms of size and weight, is the 7.5 ounce difference between the two lenses noticeable? Like you would be more inclined to take the 80mm out with you? It seems like the 110 is better for this time of work (though I liked the 80mm shots too) but which lens would you gravitate towards if you were wandering the streets, shooting subjects that struck your fancy? Maybe like a documentary type of thing.

    • @SNAPAVELI
      @SNAPAVELI  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a really good question! The 80 would really stink for street photography unless you had the 100s body. The 110 weight a bit more but it doesn’t bother me much. It’s still lighter than my 85 1.2. I think for headshots I prefer the 110 but the 80 is really lovely too if you are a bit further back. I do have one more comparison on my channel outdoor with both lenses! It may help you decide. It’s a bit further back on my timeline

    Yesterday was comparing my new GF55mm F1.7 on my new GFX100 II to my GF80mm F1.7 and started missing my GF110mm F2 :)
    I love the GF80mm F1.7 but it feels quite close to the GF55mm F1.7 so I'm considering getting rid of the 80 and buying back the 110mm. Also missing the LM of the 110.
    The AF on the GFX 100 II is so much faster than on the older bodies that I feel the AF issue of the 80 is pretty much a thing of the past though....
    Thx for the video.

    About AF speed on this video 80 is faster. You shoud show how those both lenses focus from close distans to model.

    • @SNAPAVELI
      @SNAPAVELI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well no the 80 isn’t faster in practice. The only way I could even show that the 110 was moving glass was when I first found focus from cold start. Otherwise it just always locked. The 80 has a little hesitation at the end. On phase detect 100/ 100s it’s way less
