    I wish I saw this when you posted it, I’d love to have helped you get the crops in, but I know what it’s like so I never complain. I love your farm life Jacob and I love your channel. You and Brad stay safe.

    Oh wow, there are quite the change of farmers doing youtube now days; small operations like yours, to the bigger ones with all the multi large tractors and planters/sowers.

    LOL:) I've thought the same thing about that fallen headliner strip in every video you've had with the IH tractors... I'm like, "how can he STAND that raggedy thing hanging right by his head blocking his vision?? It'd take about 5 seconds to cut off with a pocket knife or just grab it and RIP and be done in 2 seconds!" But I didn't want to say anything and appear to be a jerk LOL:) But YOU said it so I'll gladly now second it!!! Later! OL J R :)

    I love the marker setup. Left remote does the left marker. Right remote does the right marker. Couldn't be simpler.
    If I come across any box lids I'll send 'em your way. I go to a lot of auctions and this kind of stuff comes up once in a while.

    Yup I've read that in a number of studies they've done all over the place, that they've found NO CONSISTENT ADVANTAGE to any particular row spacing on bean planters versus another row spacing, when the results of multiple years are taken together as an average. Comparing drilled beans in 7.5 inch rows, narrow 15 inch rows, and "conventional" planted 30 inch rows. True there is variability, and in some years one planting pattern might make slightly better yields than one of the other patterns, but in following years one of the other patterns might well beat it out in terms of yield. So ON AVERAGE for most varieties, locations, local climate conditions, and exceptional climate conditions (drought, flooding, cold, heat, whatever) whatever advantage one sees in one planting style will be beaten by the other pattern in different conditions. Same can be said when it comes to different populations or varieties, and how they respond to different row spacings. SO while it's perfectly acceptable to have a given preference, thinking that "it's the BEST" is strictly a subjective judgment based on the preferences of the individual making them and not demonstrably superior on average.
    Later! OL J R :)

    My grandfather use to with a 30in row planter but it wasn't hook to the three point it was hooked to the hitch we always made sure that everything was clear when the beans were going into the ground if they are not clear then you had to clean it out then you're going to wander way it didn't come out

    It appears your 1086 has developed the dreaded "death wobble" in the front end. Bet it is thrilling going down the road with it. When you get a chance get you some bushings and re bush the cylinder and linkage. Makes a big difference. As far as being late you do what you can when you can. I never worked on Sunday unless late in planting or late in harvest. By the way did you ever hear from the guy with the 800 series planters? I tried to find hoppers and lids for my 800's but couldn't so I am still patching mine up for now.We sometimes grow sunflowers and sell them to a company that mixes bird seed. We planted in 36 in rows and used a bean head. Have less loss with the bean head. You could probably find a market too.

    • @boehmfarm4276
      @boehmfarm4276  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I am accustomed to the loose front end. It doesn't go wild wiggling like the 2910 does, but that is cause by a light front end and a mythical hydraulic issue.
      Now That you mention it, there is a very local guy who mixes bird seed. I need to call him now....
      I haven't heard anything from him about the planters.

    Ai like this video I think the reason with the middle rows plant more than the others is that they are planting more per acre because of the wide rows

      Boehm Farm . Our local "go to" guy for hard to find and old parts is Steve McCullough of McCullough's used farm parts. Get me the measurements and I'll see what he has. Let me know how many you need (maybe a couple extras for when you need them in the future) and I'll see if he has them and at what cost. Cheers! Whipple

    Is that a 10 row planter? What the hell?
    Edit: ok you're planting beans. Still I have never seen a 10 row 30" planter

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not a 30 inch planter... not sure what the spacing is, maybe 15-20 inches... as narrow as you can reasonably go with those individual unit planters... Then skips or wider middles behind the tractor tires where the planter tires are, leaving tramlines for spraying.
      If a guy WANTED to, you can turn those wheel mounts around in front of the toolbar and mount them outboard on either side of the tractor rear tires, or do away with them completely, since those are self-driving unit planters-- the press wheel turns the plates. Then he could mount two more row units in there where the wheels are now planting in the middles behind the tractor tires and plant "full width" without any tram lines... That was the beauty of those old unit planters-- you could mount them on ANY toolbar in practically ANY configuration you could want. With a double toolbar you could have two rows of them and plant pretty much just like a drill, or double rows (two rows 5-10 inches apart on 30-40 inch centers) or practically any other pattern you could dream up... BUT those units aren't as good at getting super accurate depth control, covering of the seed (relying solely on the press wheel to collapse the seed furrow in around the seed) and of course plate metering isn't all that great for accuracy to be sure. BUT for non-spacing sensitive crops planted at high populations like cotton, grain sorghum, and soybeans, they work plenty "good enough". Later! OL J R :)

    How much land do you guys own and Farm and how many acres do you guys rent and farm when you chew the vegetation up into the dirt does it help or hurt the crop grow

    • @boehmfarm4276
      @boehmfarm4276  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mom and dad own 77. I rent about a hundred for grain, dad rents enough to get him to 100 acres and then we cut a separate 50+ acres of hay in the summer.
      Other farmers have cover crops, so its a green manure releasing nutrients as they decay.

    • @sweetfarmsllc8886
      @sweetfarmsllc8886 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not true, was easy to sell 10 dollars plus beans up until the last month or so. Forward contracting and planting early you could of gained 100-200 dollars an acre. That sounds like a decent amount of money to me. Even at 8 dollars, 10-20 bushel is 80-160 dollars more an acre. Around here you could hire it done for less than 30 an acre easily. No offense, but as a small farmer you need to be taking advantage of every bushel and dollar you can.. Their was good money to be made if you know how to market.

      Well I have been farming full time since 1971. With out making a profit we wouldnt survive year after year. If you are a part time hobby farmer then I can understand that comment. At the end of the day farming is a business, and it needs to be profitable most years to make a living. I love the lifestyle, but that wont pay the bills.
