In 2007, my husband went and bought a Kabota tractor, and I was mad because I wanted a new car, well after seeing what that tractor could do, I am so grateful for that darn thing. So I Still have my 2003 expedition, and I'm OK with that.❤

I am 79 years old and am not able to farm, but I do have a raised bed garden. There’s just something about spring that makes me want to turn dirt and plant something.
I have figured out why I love you guys so much, it’s because you don’t go into politics and Andy always finds an upside to any problem. Nothing seems to get him down.
With the great attitude that y’all have you should live a long life.
    God has really blessed y’all.

Your so right. It so much reminds me of when I was military and would get to come home. Travel many hours to get here, so tired and come through the door, give everyone hugs and your wanting nothing more than to go to BED !!! Lol but nope I’d have around 4-5 hours left of talking ! 😮. As a young man that first night was dreadful but now I miss them so much !!!

I was taught that waterbath canned foods went upside down because the pressure was absent during the waterbath process. Despite the USDA...I always have and always will do it that way. Wouldn't want the spirit of my dear momma to give me a brain duster!!😂

If we listened to the USDA we wouldn’t be canning anything. Most of them probably never filled a jar. I think about how the older people canned and didn’t go by all those restrictions and lived a long and healthy life.

Just started watching your videos and I absolutely love you guys. Meagan, I am right there with you about your horses. We have two horses that do an awful lot of standing around. My horse is 32 now and she will be here until the day she dies. I live in Arizona (in the desert) and don't have the benefit of a pasture. We have the land but it would take way to much water for a pasture. Keep your "heart horse" and don't let anyone tell you different. Keep it true and honest just the way you and Andy are doing.

Good morning y’all ! Thank you for q&a! Megan, I have also turned my jelly upside for 5 min then back up to seal them . I have done that my whole life and NEVER had any trouble from my jelly or jams.My momma thought me that too- 😊the usda says it is a danger of deadly bacteria growing in your jars . And that the high heat of processing is supposed to make the seal stronger but I will continue to stick with the method my momma taught me.😊 love those azaleas! I went right to Amazon about your hoecake pan and they aren’t available on there anymore 😫 I was one that asked about that pan lol. I will keep on praying for yall and the new experiences you will be going through with your channel. God bless yall!

I find ya guys are the real deal..Homesteaders .,
I grew up in a family of cooks my grandmother who was born in 1900 cooked all the time homemade meals. My mom was a cook. They both had restaurants both very hard-working women. We did a lot by hand. We didn’t buy too much from the stores and then as we got older and had kids I think I stepped away from a lot of that I still cook, but I stopped gardening back and now I reconnected with gardening about four years ago and I came across y’all and I just Love y’all because it reminds me of the way we grew up and I am addicted to a lot of my veggies that instead of going to the store, I can grow my own from garlic potatoes to carrots to bring beans so cabbages and I’m doing good and I am watching y’all. I feel like you’ll give me a lot of inspiration…
    God Bless ya 🙏🏽 🌱🌱

If you don't grind your own coffee, you need to. Coffee oxidizes easily, which degrades the freshness. Grinding your own protects the bean from oxidation until you grind it.

When you are handy you can and do have more vehicles and equipment around. Often some are backups, some are continual projects, and some are parts. The farming lifestyle tends to create handy skills even if you didn't start out handy since necessity puts those skills in your hands.

I used to work for my grandfather back in 70s picking rocks out of the fields the way he used to make ditches in the fields was one rock on one side one rock on the other side one rock on top and we did miles it feels like that picking rocks into the little truck take him to the ditch that's how he grained all his fields he didn't buy pipe or tile he just used rocks and then on top of those rocks you threw all your old cardboard and plastic and stuff over top of the rocks and then buried it that's how he grained all his hay fields it was hard work and I tell you I was a teenager and that man was way older than me and he could outwork me no problem always remember him because he always had a drip of sweat hanging off his nose and he ate grapefruits like an orange peeled them Yucky I love grapefruit but not that way could never stand the bitter taste of the skin missed that old man even though he was pretty cheap with his money LOL

Not sure if it was even 30% germination so yes it makes a big difference

You're right about farmers having a lot of vehicles and that's the best place to look for old antiques if they ever want to get rid of them kind of funny my uncle used to travel all over Alberta and Canada collecting an old wagon wheels he had hundreds of those on his farm I don't know what he did with them all when they moved into the city 1 farm when we used to be kids there would be down in this old road and when he got into the bush he had old sheds all through the Bush and there was old antique fenders leaning up against the trees and in the windows of the sheds there was wood ornaments and then inside the shed he had antique carnage shed I tell you boy those antiques would have been worth a lot of money the fenders that were linked up against the trees you could shoot those suckers with a rifle there's no way that a rifle bullet would ever go through them they were a quarter inch steel on them now that's a heavy car older is the better but I always say

Have you thought about teaching Jacob and Maggie how to work on a vehicle by fixing up the truck? Maybe waiting a couple years to actually do it so they'll be a little older and more likely to grasp the information you'll be giving them.
Just asking your opinion, but do you think it would be possible to get around the "not giving medical advice" rule by always stating this is what I do and this is how it works for me? You wouldn't be offering any advice to anyone, you would simply be sharing another aspect of your life. I for one, and I'm probably not alone, would love to learn all the wisdom you have about natural medicine and home remedies. I sure do wish there was a way around the giving medical advice rule because most of us viewers would love to learn more about living off the land and would never think of blaming y'all if something didn't work for us. But I do realize there are people out there who look for any way to blame others and extort them for money, so you must be careful.

Good morning yall! I really enjoy watching your video's and so jealous I'm not on the farm I grew up on. Nothing like living on a farm with animal's that give you food. Except for pig's. My dad had one years ago that was a pet. It had to go everywhere dad went. But, ww do love some bacon. Anyhow, I'm not able to do a lot of what yall do except for having a garden. I find it therapy and I love to watch it grow. I grow not only my garden but all my flower's. People stop by and tell me how much they admire my garden and flower beds. So, I have no questions at the moment except I'm fixing to check out your recipes. You cook like country folk cook!! Have a Blessed Day!!

@@TrueGritAppalachianWays I'm getting ready to retire from the navy and I'm not going to lie...I do miss farm life/homesteading....my wife and I are excited for the next chapter and we just want to thank your family for being awesome rolemodels. Besides, you both said nobody needed to have to donate any money, but out of thanks, 10 is a thankyou.

I love this channel you are such good people and there's not too many of them out there except for farmers always seems like farmers are better people nicer kids as long as you keep them out of the school systems and all the drugs and alcohol keep them to their morals where they have respect for their parents and elders you don't see that anymore yeah I was a bad boy at school but not to my parents or my grandparents I'd like the kids nowadays they only respect theirselves in the cities anyway I believe you're better off to home school your kids

Love, love, love you two! You are the core of what makes our country great! I was wondering, in a previous video Megan showed a small "grocery store" haul mostly snacks because you grow 80-90% of your food. Do you buy staples like flour, sugar, rice, etc in bulk & store in a cellar?

I’ve been watching on the tv and realized I wasn’t subscribed and wanted to jump on and say how much I love your family and channel! I’m anticipating my garden producing so I was just searching garden videos lol and came across y’all’s channel and have been watching non stop! I fell in love with Appalachia through Tipper Pressleys channel celebrating Appalachia and just love the ways and traditions! I’m from Texas and just moved back to Texas from the coast in Mississippi.. got two youngins and a husband and started gardening and canning last year and fell slap in love! Thank you for all your hard work and information! I’ll be trying a ton of stuff you’ve taught me just in the past couple days!! Sorry for the long post! Just love you guys so much! ❤

I was counting and I have 3 tractors and I think 15 implements. They do tend to multiply fast. I just like old rusty tractors. If I was a wealthy man I have 50 probably.
