- Penn State traveled to Iowa City to face a ranked Iowa team in a game that seemed more evenly matched than the records indicated at that time. The Lions started Michael Robinson at quarterback but that only lasted for a couple of series as the offense went nowhere. On defense, Penn State made Iowa earn every yard they got. Iowa was able to slowly move on offense and consistently but Penn State did make some big defensive plays in the game. None bigger than Yisreal's interception return for a score to put the first points of the game on the board. Penn State's offense was about as anemic as ever, even with Zack Mills at quarterback. There were overthrows and blocking breakdowns and penalties, all coming late in a season where the Lions were still looking for consistency to get better.
Penn State's Top Performers:
Yaacov Yisreal: 2 interceptions, 1 return for touchdown
The Lions loss gave them a 2-6 record heading into the final stretch of their schedule, without a conference win on the year. Iowa was ranked 16th heading into the game, and its win vaulted them to a 6-2 mark which would change into 10-3 by season's end. The Hawkeyes beat Florida in the Outback Bowl and earned an 8th ranked spot in the final AP Poll.
