  • We leave Bomani Tented Lodge and take the 4x4 track overland into Hwange National Park. We set up our campsite at Makwa Platform. It is a beautiful evening for filming African wildlife and we capture fork-tailed drongos in slow motion flight, elephants at sunset and other animals around the waterhole. Wildlife footage filmed in 8K on Red V-Raptor, behind-the-scenes footage shot in 4K ultra hd on GoPro.
In this series we are filming in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe with Imvelo Safari Lodges. From there we travel North, up though the park to Victoria Falls and we camp for a few nights next to the Zambezi River in the Zambezi National Park. Then we move across to Botswana and stay at Pangolin Chobe hotel for a night before camping for a few nights in Chobe National Park at Ihaha campsite. Then we take the long and scenic route home across the Caprivi strip and down through Namibia.

Special thanks to Imvelo Safari Lodges (www.imvelosafarilodges.com/) and Pangolin Photo Safaris (www.pangolinphoto.com) for their assistance and support on this collaboration.
Behind-the-scenes shot on a GoPro Hero 10. For the telephoto wildlife shots we used a Canon 200-400mm f4 lens on a Red V-Raptor camera. Moving shots were done using a Red Komodo 6K with a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 or Canon 14mm f2.8. Aerials filmed using a Mavic Air 2s.

Yeah, it's a great camera. Make a plan to visit again - I'm sure you can come up with a project and find some funding.

I have been 14 times in Hwange in the last 11 years most on my own self drive was camping in Detema and other picknick side. Hwange is an eldorado for visitors who want to see lions. (in 2023 october I saw in 8 days 21 times lions!) Oh BTW: I have tonnes of video about Hwange on my channel and I don't make money with them either.

70 USD seems steep compared to the other Hwange camps. Was it worthwhile and do you need to book in advance or can you do when arriving at Hwange. Did you book online and please provide details of possible. Loving your adventure 🙌🙌

Yes, it is pretty expensive, especially for a site with no functioning ablutions :). I booked in advance via whatsapp (+263 77 404 1757) but it is much cheaper if you book on arrival - I think about half the price. But then the site you want may not be available. I paid $588 for 2 people (2 nights at Makwa Platform and 2 nights at Masuma dam). That included conservation fees but excluded vehicle fees.

$70 per person.. The last time was way lower.

Yes. It is quite expensive if you are not from zim. Much cheaper if you don't book in advance, but then you might not get the private campsite that you want
