10 years.....10 freakin years of trying memorize boxes, shapes and modes and my improvisation still sucked. 2 weeks with the neverlost major and minor system and I am finally off the ground. I don’t know if I should be sad about not finding this earlier or happy that I am now jamming and enjoying the guitar like I have never before. Stitch, personal thanks bud. for those who havent noticed the pattern shown here for major also works for minor by using your ring finger on the root and playing the exact same pattern shown here now you have minor and end up at the hub as he calls it .youll see what i mean when you try it.

Wow! This lesson really clicked with me! Thanks for posting it! When I was first starting out, my cousin showed me what I've always called the "sliding pentatonic scale" and that is exactly what it was! It has served me very well over the years. I never thought to look for other ways to do it, and never really broke it down into octave by octave patterns, root to root as you have done. With just a couple of videos you have made one of my most useful tools far more useful. More importantly, you have given me a better understanding of the pattern I've been playing and "why" it works, as well as a new pattern, and the understanding I need to be able to come up with my own in the future as well! It's been a while since I have had a really nice guitar "epiphany" moment, and this has been one of the best, right up there with (finally) comprehending modes! I just wanted you to know that! Thanks again!
Excellent lesson. Fantastic. Learning how to solo in major keys can be confusing and daunting to players who've just learned the minor pentatonic shapes, but the way you described how to easily get from the first position to the other (a full octave higher and waaaaay up the fretboard) is wonderful. If anyone watching this video is confused, I have some advice for you: Watch this video every single day, guitar in hand, and copy what Stitch is doing note for note. It's essential to learn that major pentatonic "never lost" run he does starting on the fifth fret sixth string going all the way up the fretboard past the 12th fret. And once you learn this run in A (or F#m), you can move it up and down the neck and play it in every key! Learn the run, then practice it over lots of backing tracks in different major keys. A, E, D, C, etc.
Absolutely takes scary or boring pentatonic scales into an entirely Learnable/Musical playing and realm of understanding. THANKS for this valuable guitar video!
Mindblowing. There are so many TH-cam videos out there but teaching is an art. Indeed, videos are there teaching about the diagonal approach but some key aspect was always missing until you have finally demystified the deceptive fret board. Thank you so much. Hey Ian, I first found out about you when I saw a vid of you and Dean making a comparison between Paul and a Strat. But however, I am so grateful to you for all you have done for me. A few years ago I distoryed the disc between L5 and L6. This has left me unable to lift and bend at the same time. So after 35+ years of framing houses I found myself disabled and a lot of time on my hands. I can't ride motorcycle anymore so I picked up an old guitar and started playing the same 6 or so songs as I have for the past 30 yrs. I would love to strum the cords of those songs as sweet and lovely as I could, but was still confined to the first 3 frets. I was trying to find something new to play on the net when I stumbled across you and your "Never ending scale" YOU my friend unlocked the rest of the fret board to me Kind Sir. I only wish I was still making good money cause I wanna support the BEST guitar teacher on TH-cam. We will have money someday again and then I will sign up. But one question please, do you have a list of your lessons in order. I just do not wanna miss a thing you got to say and teach. sign me Grateful for YOUR Talent!

Just tried the backing track and now this lesson makes TOTAL sense. Your teaching is great because you synthesise all the pieces and make is USEFUL, I can think it through at playing speed. I blended in one of your other lessons without even thinking about it...played the A minor pentatonic over the A major section just before moving to F# pentatonic over the relative minor section. Nice smooth transition with a bluesy link. It just makes sense now :)Thanks for the great channel.
I've always preferred major sounding blues to minor. The major neverlost system is super easy - everything is two frets apart! I'm going to be jamming southern rock for a while now....

One of the nice things about the first run that lands you on the 10th fret of the B string if you play it with your middle finger is you're all set up for the C-shape of the A major chord at that fret. There's a nice double stop you can play (9 g-string, 10 b-string) and a hammer on 11 g-string or an arpeggio of the A major chord of you lay down the ring finger on the 11 d-string and pinky on the 12 a-string. In fact, easy closed chords for the 4 and 5 chords are right there too. All in all if you make that run you land in a very fertile place. :-)

I'm seeing that you get more into that concept of changing scale shapes as songs progress and the key changes. I never knew that, but I can hear it now. Again, mind blown! :-D

I think I see what you're doing here. You're basically pulling a note from the A string that's in the major scale and putting it on the low E string to create the repeating fingering pattern. The goal is to scale up until you can't, then come back down in form 5 major pentatonic (also known as form 1 minor pentatonic). Thank you!
Thanks for teaching ways to link the positions together and actually use them! The term "Form One" confused me in the summary (8:37 to 8:50). The summary begins and ends in the major pentatonic fifth position. It is nice that these are the same notes as the relative minor pentatonic first position. But confusing.

Just bought the chart pack thank you SO MUCH for putting those out along with these videos. I feel like there is hope for me finally. I’ve owned guitars and played along with my singing for decades always feeling like solo’ing/lead was just out of my reach, which it very much still is, but this makes me feel like if I dedicate the second half of my life to learning this I might not completely suck at guitar before I die of old age (fingers crossed.)

I blended in one of your other lessons without even thinking about it...played the A minor pentatonic over the A major section just before moving to F# pentatonic over the relative minor section. Nice smooth transition with a bluesy link. It just makes sense now :)Thanks for the great channel.
I've always preferred major sounding blues to minor. The major neverlost system is super easy - everything is two frets apart! I'm going to be jamming southern rock for a while now....
If you really wanna kick it up a notch, the minor is same shape 4 frets up the neck.

One of the nice things about the first run that lands you on the 10th fret of the B string if you play it with your middle finger is you're all set up for the C-shape of the A major chord at that fret. There's a nice double stop you can play (9 g-string, 10 b-string) and a hammer on 11 g-string or an arpeggio of the A major chord of you lay down the ring finger on the 11 d-string and pinky on the 12 a-string. In fact, easy closed chords for the 4 and 5 chords are right there too. All in all if you make that run you land in a very fertile place. :-)

I think I see what you're doing here. You're basically pulling a note from the A string that's in the major scale and putting it on the low E string to create the repeating fingering pattern. The goal is to scale up until you can't, then come back down in form 5 major pentatonic (also known as form 1 minor pentatonic). Thank you!

Thanks for teaching ways to link the positions together and actually use them! The term "Form One" confused me in the summary (8:37 to 8:50). The summary begins and ends in the major pentatonic fifth position. It is nice that these are the same notes as the relative minor pentatonic first position. But confusing.

Thanks Stitch. I’m just a toddler at licks and can’t yet tie my shoes (tie them together for a good solo) yet I so enjoy who you are. Really appreciate your neverlost system being as I’m one of those Sixth Sense folks-“I see patterns and they talk to me.” Your lighthearted approach is great and your multitasking/distractions remind me of myself-look a bird! Although I’m more of a dog person you’re alright and so is your cat!

Just bought the chart pack thank you SO MUCH for putting those out along with these videos. I feel like there is hope for me finally. I’ve owned guitars and played along with my singing for decades always feeling like solo’ing/lead was just out of my reach, which it very much still is, but this makes me feel like if I dedicate the second half of my life to learning this I might not completely suck at guitar before I die of old age (fingers crossed.)
