This book is in my hand and was reading it, when I started watching this interview. I am a great admirer of Nehru ji. Thanks Shri Aditya Mukherjee sir.
Here are some disadvantages or criticisms of Jawaharlal Nehru's tenure as India's Prime Minister, presented concisely: 1. Economic Policies: Overemphasis on a socialist model led to slow economic growth, inefficiencies, and the "license raj" system, hindering private enterprise. 2. Kashmir Issue: Mishandling of the Kashmir conflict and referring it to the UN is often criticized for prolonging the dispute. 3. China Relations: His trust in China led to the 1962 Sino-Indian War, resulting in a humiliating defeat and territorial loss. 4. Centralized Planning: Focus on heavy industries neglected agriculture, causing food shortages and dependency on imports. 5. Neglect of Defense: Insufficient attention to military preparedness left India vulnerable to external threats. 6. Dynastic Politics: Accused of paving the way for dynastic rule by promoting his family within Indian politics. 7. Linguistic Issues: His language policies, particularly around the imposition of Hindi, created unrest in non-Hindi-speaking regions.

The media inflated paper tiger is no substitute for a real tiger with a regal resonance and roar. His diplomatic dimension and the gigantic sweep of his amazing intellect will dazzle us for generations undiminished.

Nehru was that rare kind of leader who is not diminished by the inadequacies of his followers. The truth is that Jaharlal Nehru's extraordinary Life and career is part of the inheritance of every Indian.
Loved every word being spoken in this interview. I wish it was WIRE which had published such a book. But I am happy my voice for the world Wire has at least done an interview of the writer of such a book. Every step wire puts goes towards more inclusivity in an India which has become divided since the advent of Communalism.
Nehru was, Nehru is, and Nehru will remain for many years to come - the greatest visionary, best architect, most able statesmen, and the greatest Indian post the freedom struggle. People critize him for gifting some parts to China etc., but had it not been for him (& the help JFK gave to stop China), most of India would have been with China by now, and India anyways would never have been the India we see today & instead would have been in taters like Pakistan. For that India owes the very highest honor & respect, to its greatest sons, like it owes to Jamshedji, Tilak, M.K. Gandhi. Gokhale, Bose, Bhagat Singh, Sardar Patel and other freedom fighters. To forget, malign, belittle, ridicule them, would indeed be most unsavory & insane. For this reason, I believe this book has absolutely come at the right time and is worth every Indian & world leaders time. Because who better than Nehru to guide us in these turbulent times, the road ahead, and the discovery of a New & Old India, a India we hope, we dream, a India we all love so dearly. Essential reading 🙏
Timely book and interview. Sick and tired of listening to malicious campaign against Nehru Ji and Mahatma Gandhi Ji. Its been like abusing your own forefathers for being visionaries as our neighbours are parochial and ruined, and a religion in far away lands is turning into a fundamentalist force, hence we dont need to celebrate that our forefathgers encouraged diversity. Its like cutting off your nose to spite the face. Disclaimer: Admirers are not slaves; we acknowledge the failings of Nehru Ji: China policy, his condescending attitude towards the Americans, etc. It's part of the package - he spent his entire life for India, achieved plenty and failed in some. He remains in our heart as the founder of India's nationhood, nurtured with affection and confidence but without any malice to the past. Imagine if Nehru Ji was not the first PM, India would have focussed on expressing its hatred towards all those who had plundered it in the past - Afghanistan, Iran, Portugal, Britain, Holland, France; anyone left? Instead, he channelised the angst of the majority to focus on rebuilding India - compare this with those who founded pakistan; their one-point agenda was spreading hatred against India. And look where they are now!
I wish the book " NEHRU and BOSE: TWO PARALLEL LIVES" by historian Rudrangshu Mukherjee is also reviewed in the future, just the same way as in this case interviewing the author.
Definetly, Nehruji is man with a vision, modern architect of India, a true democrat, a man of letters, most popular figure of New born India, Many books are coming these days to throw light on his deeds, thoughts and vision. The other fellows are feeling insecure about his image which is uniting Indians even today to come against neo-facists and want to insult him with false propaganda. I think it nevwr happen until we continue our voice against communal forces
An iota of Nehru's intrinsic worth, Nehru's value for the people of India, Nehru's contribution for the growth and development of India immediately after freedom, people's love for Nehruji, cannot be undermined my any amount of anti-Nehru propaganda. That is why Nehru needs no defence.
AT the time of independence, Nehru was 57 years old. Out of the 57 years, Nehru spent more than 9 years in jail fighting for India's independence. Great sacrifice and deserves better treatment from the current day ruling dispensation.

Priyanka Gandhi is right in Parliament. Would Nehru alone do all for independent India for next 100 years? The onus of defining positioning of Muslims in the scheme of India once Pakistan was formed and definitive land on both sides of India was consumed by Muslims, was on Congress itself. They left the space open till 2014 and BJP filled it up with their own ideas.
Nehru was a great stateman and leader. All leaders should be judged on based on their track records. Although Nehru has an over whelming positivity on democracy and secularism but never the less he made some blunders specifically Himalyan foreign policy blunder on China. Another is his economic policy copied from Moscow was a disaster - which gave rise to govt control licence raj.
What BJP alludes about Nehru i don't know but the thing i am sure about him is , he was in a hunger to sit on moving chair of power . He unheard the cries of former Sindh PM Allah bux soomro , who was continually wailing that his province was driven away from Congress's nationalist politics to League's communal lap . Balochs approached him but he denied them !
The Nehru biographer is quite right about his subject who was a visionary as well as a deliverer; in essence, this was the father of post-Independence modern India truly in the line of--going back millinnia--Emperor Ashoka of what can be called proto-secularism and liberalism--and the Mughal ruler, Akbar. Samir Datta
Nehru died in 1964 physically, but in fact he was assassinated in 2014, inasmuch as he trampled communal parties to profoundly establish democracy in India. It was his big mistake, the consequence of which he now faced. Be that as it may, the step he had taken at that time to root out the communal groups was more or less a right decision.
Pt Nehru's personality was towering among the other leaders of the world for his sociological and humanitarian thoughts . He had shown noble courage against all odds.
The Muslim Personal Law of 1937 was the handiwork of the Muslim elite/zamindars/feudal lords in collaboration with the British Raj. What was the position of Gandhi-Nehru-Patel on this?
What about the point being spread that Nehru was not voted for to lead the interim government in 1947, but Patel won the majority vote. Still Nehru was selected by Gandhi to become the PM.
Nehru , if if needs defense, will be trillionth of of what Jamshedji Tata or JRD Tata of GD Birla or anyone of that stature would need. Imagine how many generations will be required to defend Modi.
A man who brought the first amendment in a provisional parliament who turned constitution into congress manifesto and yet we This hero and cult kind worshipping of nehru, exactly this had made him the villain and the dynasty too.
What to say of this high standard conversation in backdrop of whatsapp viral doing rounds of Jawahar : a Muslim, a promuslim mindset who orchestrated partition ,so on and so forth. We the middle class have stooped to their level of ignorance ( not a real one) What an ulterior motive!
But what about the Hindus bootchered in pakistan and totally wiped out. Is it not the failure of this ideology and minorities of pak suffered immense difficulties and they were forced to leave their religion and culture.
BJP should immediately stop Nehru- Gandhi baiting and Hindu Muslim hate campaigns. We (including BJP) are here as one cohesive India after 2000 years of fragmented geography because of these people. Mud slinging on these people is nothing short of cultural annihilation and inviting anarchy.

Nehru was that rare kind of leader who is not diminished by the inadequacies of his followers. The truth is that Jaharlal Nehru's extraordinary Life and career is part of the inheritance of every Indian.
Why even ask? Nehru was an intellectual,a profound man with a vision and the humility to know that he needed input. Dr Mukherjee is brilliant
Excellent interview Seema. You allowed the guest to speak
Loved every word being spoken in this interview.
I wish it was WIRE which had published such a book. But I am happy my voice for the world Wire has at least done an interview of the writer of such a book.
Every step wire puts goes towards more inclusivity in an India which has become divided since the advent of Communalism.
Very true in the simplest but the strongest words . He doesn't need any defence for those with wisdom.
Really genius NEHRU does not need # NO DEFENCE # in present scenario 😊
Great ideas !
Amazing stuff 😍
I wish the book " NEHRU and BOSE: TWO PARALLEL LIVES" by historian Rudrangshu Mukherjee is also reviewed in the future, just the same way as in this case interviewing the author.
excellent
Definetly, Nehruji is man with a vision, modern architect of India, a true democrat, a man of letters, most popular figure of New born India, Many books are coming these days to throw light on his deeds, thoughts and vision. The other fellows are feeling insecure about his image which is uniting Indians even today to come against neo-facists and want to insult him with false propaganda. I think it nevwr happen until we continue our voice against communal forces
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
An iota of Nehru's intrinsic worth, Nehru's value for the people of India, Nehru's contribution for the growth and development of India immediately after freedom, people's love for Nehruji, cannot be undermined my any amount of anti-Nehru propaganda. That is why Nehru needs no defence.
Book has already been ordered. Thank you for good conversation
Fanstastic qoute call Nehru needs no defence. Really a apt qoute
Nice.🎉
I think Mr. Mukherjee was referring to the Instrument of Accession when he fumbled for words.
One should thank Mr. Modiji for criticizing and bringing Nehruji in the limelight
AT the time of independence, Nehru was 57 years old. Out of the 57 years, Nehru spent more than 9 years in jail fighting for India's independence. Great sacrifice and deserves better treatment from the current day ruling dispensation.
Exactly sir.
🤣🤣🤣🤣what jail, every man spends whole life in jail,, traitor nehru only 9yrs
@@PraakashRanjannby your logic you have written this comment from jail?
@@advityat same for you too.... nehru was in this kind of jail
@@PraakashRanjann Not for me, it's your deranged logic. And please read a little, and by reading I mean things other than your daily whatsapp forwards.
Nehru jee was on of the highly qualified person in India..
Oh, he does.
He needs defending like no other hypocrite.
A friend recently sent a post nehru was not all that he was made out to be ,some other person they mentioned in that post built dams, did this and that! I am sure it was one of the bjp trolling gang. I said tgey are allergic to nehru and can not accept his popularity.
Super interview ! What a wonderful refreshing experience
Great discussion.un biased,and history
Modi is the new Nehru 🙌🙌
I totally agree with you 👏👏
Nehru was a great stateman and leader.
We have Parliamentary Democracy.
Wire ..
Mr Nehru ...!!
What is left to defend
What BJP alludes about Nehru i don't know but the thing i am sure about him is , he was in a hunger to sit on moving chair of power . He unheard the cries of former Sindh PM Allah bux soomro , who was continually wailing that his province was driven away from Congress's nationalist politics to League's communal lap . Balochs approached him but he denied them !
One thing was missing during nehrus era --- emphasises on primary education with secular base
Samir Datta
badiyaaaa
Nehru died in 1964 physically, but in fact he was assassinated in 2014, inasmuch as he trampled communal parties to profoundly establish democracy in India. It was his big mistake, the consequence of which he now faced. Be that as it may, the step he had taken at that time to root out the communal groups was more or less a right decision.
Thank you Prof. Mukherjee for penning yet another very informative book...Thanks to The WIRE and Ma'am interviewer.

Pt Nehru's personality was towering among the other leaders of the world for his sociological and humanitarian thoughts . He had shown noble courage against all odds.

Partition of India definitely damaged the soul of India as was a nation state dreamed by our leaders.
Minority are always in fear! What about others? Mr Hoshiyar!
Yes that's why Bharat was without any credible defense when neighbour's wanted some real estate
Same is true about your God. In Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. As someone said in the comments, illiterates cannot be educated to understand this
@drsbal proud to be born in India the country where leaders donate land to neighbors so generously
The Muslim Personal Law of 1937 was the handiwork of the Muslim elite/zamindars/feudal lords in collaboration with the British Raj. What was the position of Gandhi-Nehru-Patel on this?
Nehru was and still is a colossus there is no one even to think about in RW parties
What about the point being spread that Nehru was not voted for to lead the interim government in 1947, but Patel won the majority vote. Still Nehru was selected by Gandhi to become the PM.
Every elite person would definitely say that rahul is a better personality than any one in bjp in all respect.
Indias nehru 👍👍👍💖💖💖
As a historian please clarify that killing democracy he became a PM.
Very good book. I have read it. And Nehru great
Pandit Nehru ji❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think he didn’t answer second part of question on how Nehru transformed into builder of the nation
Whatever they do, the Sangh Parivar can never replace Nehru's legacy with their own legacy of pettiness and communal hatred.
Yes no defence indeed 😀
Infact he wanted to disband Army and neglected defence
" Religious Polarisation and Hatred is the Only One Asset of the BJP Leaders!
💚🌹🙏Long Live Former Prime Minister Nehru ! Vivat for India Bharat !🙏🌹 💚
They are bunch of outdated commies struggling for revial. Let them sulk. I came here to see them cry.
Our first PM our best PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru period that's all and now India need another Jawaharlal to fight out against the hatred mongers rss
Nehru the great
Bane of India
These BJP leaders cannot compared with Nehruji
Nehru is on the same rank of Mao, Stalin and Pol Pot.
No sensible people like to compare themselves with these Dictatotors
Nehru👍
BJP should immediately stop Nehru- Gandhi baiting and Hindu Muslim hate campaigns. We (including BJP) are here as one cohesive India after 2000 years of fragmented geography because of these people. Mud slinging on these people is nothing short of cultural annihilation and inviting anarchy.
Is Socialist ideology now applied OR not?????? Is it true or false???????
Read Catherine frank
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru spent a grand total of 3,263 days in eight different periods between 1923 and 1945 and deferent jails that almost ten years were to be behind the bars likes Ahmednagar, Nagpur, Nainy, Dehradun, Alipore preshidency, Berily and more.
Ohhh yes not a small time in a prison like Andaman
Stop fooling around
Amartya sen is anti Sanatani tradition . Neon
Y praises non Hindus such as Akbar and Ashok
Because he falsely believed that Buddhism was different from Sanatani dharma.
Nehru objected to Sanskrit as the national language. He did not understand communalism atall.
He gave away Kashmir He lied about R SS as you are . Muslims are allowed to have four wives , and sharia law .Indian education never taught about Indic mathematics or ontology . It glorified Islam . No mention of the destruction of all universities and temples. Genocide and history. He has no understanding of Non dualism.. everything wrong in following J S Mill
