So as one of the first adopters on this shifter for the 2015+ WRX. I have been using the shifter long before the shifter box was available and can say I actually enjoy being able to hear the transmission and road and having a little more noise.
The problem is A. the cost and B. it will void the trans warranty, if one wants to keep it anyway. Also, for those who do an STI trans swap, does this shifter also work with that, or do you need to get the corresponding DarkMatterx shifter kit?
The STI transmission has a completely different shifter design, this is a complete shifter assembly replacement for the WRX 6 speed. If you wanted to install the STI unit, Darkmatterx also offers a shifter assembly for that transmission.
The install is certainly involved as it is a complete replacement of the entire shifter assembly/ mechanism. There are a couple tricky spots, but otherwise pretty straight forward and doable with hand tools!
This is intended to be the ultimate upgrade for those planning on keeping the WRX 6 speed transmission. If power is your goal, yes there are likely other issues to worry about transmission wise, but don't worry DARKMATTERX makes a shifter for the STI transmission aswell!

Is it possible to use a Cobb shifter plate and what difference would it make with the dark matter X?

I’d rather take my 1300 dollars and put it towards an Sti swap. Cool parts but not worth it if you want to make over 400hp
I agree $1300 for a shifter it’s insane. I’d rather put that money toward the STI swap as well.
