"I will speak of my brother as I wish, you will not" This line alone perfectly encapsulates Daemon's character. He's very critical of Viserys and is highly ambitious, but thus far he doesn't have the capacity to go through with anything such as assassination, if anything it feels like he's doing most of this out of attention from Viserys as he feels hurt / neglected. Such a wonderfully complex character, I absolutely love him and Matt Smith's portrayal.
All the best scenes are with he and Viserys together. I never once got an antagonistic vibe from Daemon. But I saw Tywin Lannister in Otto from his very first scene.

The Crabfeeder nails the people to the beach in lowtide. If they don’t drown when the tide comes in, the crabs that wash in onto the shore begin to feed on their open wounds. He started by hunting down pirates, punishing them to scare off any other pirates from operating out of those islands. But now he is styling himself as ruler of those islands (with backing from 3 of the Free Cities) and does it to anyone who doesn’t do as he says, including Westerosi sailors who don’t pay his tolls and comply with his rule.
I honestly think Rhaenyra showing up was the second best outcome of what Daemon wanted, what he was looking for was his brother’s attention, because Daemon’s a petulant little shit who misses his big brother, he is acting out to get his brothers attention. what he got instead was his niece’s attention, the one person in the world who understands him better than even his own brother. I love the little smirk Rhaenyra gives Daemon as he’s walking away after tossing the egg back to her, he’s being a total ass, but she kind of loves him for it. There is also the fact that he is remaining a constant for her, while so many other people are shifting around her, she tested her trust in their relationship and was proven right in that trust.

Viserys is a lot like King Tommen. He is a kind soul with a gentle nature who lacks the harsh ruthlessness one needs to stay in power and protect your people. You HAVE to be willing to throw hands with anyone that challenges you because every challenge you fail to answer makes you look weak and lose support of your own people. Tommen got manipulated like crazy by his wife until his own weakness failed to protect even her. Viserys has been manipulated by Otto for who knows how long, and now doubly so when he marries Otto's daughter. A second, more comforting voice to whisper in his ear and tell him that Otto's suggestions are the right course of action and best thing to do, etc. The only time Viserys even borders on being a proper king is when he is greatly angered, I guess it stokes the dragon blood within him. Rhaenyra reminds me a lot of Danny. She started off much more innocent and rather "weak" as neither were in positions of power initially, but both of them started to come into their power when they were given authority and started to take it seriously. Daemon doesn't have as close of a parallel to any GOT characters. He seems almost Joffery-like in his arrogance, entitlement, and liking to stir the pot and cause problems, but while Joffery was a coward and overly sadistic, Daemon is quite brave and seems more practical. He also vaguely reminds me of Stannis. Basically the brother who felt he deserved the throne by right and is more practical and stern than his sibling, and willing to kill anyone and anything to claim the throne for himself because he values that power above any lives in the kingdom. I feel Daemon would be a bit more honorable most of the time in the same way Stannis was most of the time. And like Stannis, I expect he'll be picking up additional allies as the series goes on due to people defecting from their current chosen ruler, the same way Stannis inherited Renly's army. Valeryon is like Tywin Lannister if he weren't taken as seriously. Rich, huge army, thinks highly of himself, and wants his house on the throne as his primary objective. But he isn't given the same esteem or fear or respect that Tywin was. And yeah Otto is definitely Little Finger 2.0 just an opportunistic schemer looking to grab at power any way he can.
The different between tommen and viserys, is that tommen literally a CHILD like he's 14, and grew up in a toxic and vicious family. And cersei always favor joffrey over him, she act like joffrey is her only son, while viserys literally being an heir because everyone favor him. So it's not right by comparing tommen to viserys.
@@aj897 Not really. George thought of Little Finger before dreaming up backstories to these old school characters he shoved in to flesh out the world history.
@@TheDrexxus Tommen is much better not only is he 14 and has much more right than viserys to be weak, viserys is a grown MAN. Viserys was the main villain from the start along with daemon. If Tommen was viserys, and his advisors told him to marry laena velaryon, he would've. Tommen listens, viserys is weak
Daemon owns the dragon. They are bonded. Dragonriders are never seperated from their dragons. Dragons accompany them since their cradle. So he doesn't need permission for taking his dragon.
@@CoRLex-jh5vx Might be a bit too gruesome for TV. But then again, if they show Blood and Cheese, they probably won't have a problem with the other one.
@@mdnblues don't see why it would be any different to Tommen (ironic name connection there too). The way it was shown in the animated version would be good, just a moonlit shot of them riding out, then a silhouette falling off into the darkness.
I think Damon tried to draw the king away from the council for a non nefarious reason but Otto insisted on him not going and went instead, blocking Damon yet again. Then ultimately the princess went and blocked Otto from starting a conflict with Damon, which Otto didn’t seem happy about.
1. They keep showing us Viserys's various cuts and sores, and how he's struggling to overcome them 2. Daemon keeps losing in his political fights with Otto Hightower. He's been banished from King's Landing and he's now lost the dragon egg 3.Otto Hightower played the king like a fiddle in the matter of his second marriage. He never directly opposed the idea of his marriage to Laena, but he planted enough doubt very subtly to get the king to change his mind; "You are the king (you are at liberty to make whatever decision you like), but I wouldn't want to be in your place (I really wouldn't marry that child if I didn't want to)." 4. Laena mentioned Vhagar in her walk-and-talk with the King. She mentioned that Vhagar was probably alive and living in the wild. If this is true, it will make her the oldest living dragon yet as she was the dragon ridden by Visenya in Aegon's Conquest nearly a hundred and thirty ago in Aegon's Conquest.
"Otto needs to get off his Hightower..." very nice lmao. When Otto said "you are the king, but I do not envy you", I understand it seems like he's 'helping' but he's just being a snake. He's trying to, very subtly, dissuade the king from considering Laena as a bride by putting emotion into play. He didn't have that humanity you thought. Regarding Daemon's dragon, it belongs to him Im pretty sure, so I think he's allowed to take it no? It would be like taking your horse to ride away (not a great comparison I know, but still, it's his). Regarding Corlys, he does seem intense, but honestly, the proposal of his daughter (as weird, uncomfortable as it is), is, politically, the right move. If the Targaryens and Velaryons had a solid bond through marriage, Viserys becomes, in fact, the actual most 'powerful' man in Westeros. He's got Corlys and all his ships and wealth, he's got his dragons...etc, a possible heir everyone can get behind (to the detriment of Rhaenyra). Even the threat posed by Daemon would be insignificant had he just wed Laena V. Corlys might be a little intense, but his counsel is actually beneficial - or would have been if it wasn't for Otto.
See I actually fuck with Daemon so heavy!!He’s crazy and he’s the black sheep of the family but he loves his family he want the crown but doesn’t seem willing to kill the family you can tell he likes Rhaenyra enough not to kill her there and the second Corlys tries to disrespect his his brother he hits him with a fire ass line.”I will speak of my brother as I wish, you will not” checked his ass don’t talk crazy about my brother. Now everything Daemon said in episode 1 is already coming to light Corlys mad the king won’t fuck his 12 YEAR OLD!!😬🤮And Otto all giddy his daughter gets to be queen and wanting the king to have a guard who can’t fight?🤨Snakes in the court taking advantage of his weakness!!I’m team Daemon but I also love Rhaenyra I’m cool with either of them getting the throne!🔥🔥
Spoiler alert ⚠ A Targaryen will eventually f--- Corlys' daughter. You'll see. She will be portrayed by three different actresses in this series. Right now, she's just a kid.
How did Viserys think for a second Corlys wouldn’t immediately turned to Daemon after that slight? Dragonstone is right there and house Velaryon has dragon riders of their own.
The dragon is Daemon's! Last ep you said the dragons look distinguishable. Caraxes can't roar and sounds like a dolphin because he’s got a deviated septum. Also, he can only fly because he has little winged legs. I love him so much he's such a good boy :(
32:25 The actor who plays Otto - his last name, Ifans, is pronounced "EE-fawns" 😊. I can't wait for you two to see what's in store. I don't know how exactly they have it all going down in the show, but oh man... Just you wait 😁
That ain't Otto's humanity. He is saying don't marry for duty but for who you feel for as he knows there is a connection Viserys feels fir Alicent. She is working on him for 6 months now. So by saying duty, he is saying you will be unhappy. He chose his words carefully playing to his ego that as king you can't have the freedom i do. Get it?
I think we can chalk this up to one of the greatest political blunders of this world. In one move Viserys has divided his house, pissed off his main naval power and richest ally (not even bringing up their two dragon riders), and ultimately turned his daughter to Daemon’s side. This one stupid move effectively kicked off the Dance of Dragons. Nice going Viserys, you should have listened to Daemon about Otto.
Aegon I (The conqueror) ----- Balerion, the Black Dread. Visenya (Elder sister & 1st wife of Aegon) ----- Vhagar, named for one of the gods of Old Valyria. Rhaenys (Little sister & 2nd wife of Aegon) ----- Meraxes, named for one of the gods of Old Valyria.
While a dragon can bond with multiple dragonriders, like Balerion, a dragonrider doesn't bond with a second dragon after the first dies. We don't know if it's tradition, superstition or a real effect of magic or pheromones or something that prevents it, but it has never happened (though a certain character wanted to try it but died before they had the chance). Your dragon is your dragon until you die.
I think Lord Corlys feels with some justification that he's Viserys' equal. They are both of high valeryian heritage and House Velaryon is the richest house at this time and Driftmark the seat of their house is strategically located between Dragonstone and King's Landing. Not to mention Lord Corlys commands almost half the navy so he feels slighted bcoz he and his family has been overlooked time and again.
Tywin Lannister: "Any man who must say, I am the king, is no true king." Viserys is a good man, not a good king. Also, don't worry, it wont be like GoT, they have a decent framework and an actual defined ending to work towards, all they need to do is join the dots.
Vhaegar is oldest living Targaryan dragon (arround 160yrs old in tine of this events) and since dragons grow as long as they live he is by far the largest dragon. Also last living creature from time of Aegon conquest.
Nobody ever makes a big enough deal out of this. Maybe because a lot of people just don't remember..... Everybody should be really excited over the discussion that the king had with little Laena Velaryon in the garden. There's a deeper discussion going on but that little girl was asking the king if he knew where the dragon Vhagar lived now. And he said that he's heard rumors that she's made a home on the shores of the sea. That sometimes sailors can hear Her cry. And Viserys says that he supposes even dragons get lonely. People should be shitting bricks over that....... We are so privileged to see a time when one of the 3 conquering dragons of Westeros is still alive and being ridden. Vhagar was ridden by one of Aegons sisters, and is a sister of Balarion the Black Dread.
We're all _cringing_ at that one scene, forgetting that it was happening way before our years when people as young as 12 or 14 were being married to people twice or thrice their age. But yeah, it's really disturbing. 🙈🙉 Anyway, I like how Daemon is still _protective_ of Viserys, putting Colrys in his place when he bad-mouthed the king. Plus, he didn't hurt his niece and returned to her the dear egg unscathed.

I think Ange hit it on the head when he said Princess Rhaenys was, "hating on men" because she literally was, saying, "men would rather see the realm burn to the ground than see a woman sit the iron throne."
A humble request: could you make the volume of your voices more equal to the volume of the show? I’m sure I’m not the only one turning it up to hear the dialogue, and then getting blown out once your mics kick in 🤣 You two are great, thanks for the videos!
You two complete each other when you are collectively thinking/processing something trying to understand it. Because when one of you are way off about something within the story, the other one has a different take on it that was almost always correct. I only watched it video once, but I don't remember a time when you both were wildly incorrect about something. Of course, I won't mention any specifics because of spoilers but there was at least four times that one of you said something that wasn't even close to being correct and then the other one would give their theory and fuckin' nail it exactly. Both of you are delightful and your reactions are a pleasure to watch. Based on the fantastic communication skills you two display in your reactions, I think the two of you would kill it on The Amazing Race. I know that's random as shit. But it's extremely endearing when a couple displays excellent communication skills with one another a la consistently listening to the other person sincerely with patience and respect while also taking the content of what they say seriously. I really look forward to continue watching HotD with both of you. I apologize for the novella. Brevity is my bane.
Well they knew he took the dragon because it is his but also the dragon keepers was with him when he was getting it. He only stole the egg but the dragon was always his to take. Also Rhaenyra or prolly his brother is the only person that could talk daemon down out of his love for them.
As childish as it may seem,Daemon literally just wanted some attention from his brother. He's been on Dragonstone for 6 months but the king doesn't really care.He knew his actions would provoke Viserys in to going to Dragonstone and they'd probably bicker a bit then eventually make up as they always did.Thats why he seemed disappointed when he didn't spot the King. Also Otto knew what Daemon really wanted hence why he was so hasty to stop the King from going. He knows Daemon wouldn't harm his brother and if the king did go he'd most likely end up coming back with Daemon to court again
I am really enjoying your channel so far. I think the first time I watch your videos was with Arcane and yesterday I found you channel again and watched a bunch of videos. Really liking it! and your covers are amazing. Guitar is always an instrument I wanted to learn (I did buy a guitar years ago) but never really did. Out of curiosity, which were your favourite characters from GOT? mine was Sansa and Cersei. Show really went to shit the last seasons but the at least the first half of the show is amazing. Also, I have to say that I interpreted Rhaenyra and Alicent's relationship as "more than friends" so I feel like Rhaenyra does feel betrayed for many different reasons.
I read somewhere that alicent is 7-9 years older than rhaenyra in the books. If that's the case she should be a minimum of 22 years. I don't know if the show is keeping that age diff.
8:33 Rhaenyra is now the heir to the Iron Throne and no one on the council respects her and just look at the scene, Otto cut Rhaenyra off when she was speaking and Viserys didn't do anything in that situation. If it was Daemon he's already shutting everyone up, mainly from Otto, in the scene with Rhaenys it's Rhaenyra, everything Rhaenys said to Rhaenyra is true, Rhaenyra is heir to the iron throne and yet she continues to give them wine, but the truth is she is participating in the council, but as Rhaenys Said they won't want a woman Viserys shouldn't have married Alicent he made a wrong choice and now there will be consequences for his choice, Viserys should have married Laena in the book she is At least Rhaenyra's age unlike in the series they put a child I don't know why they did that Probably to be more controversial because he's a child, but anyway he should have chosen Laena and not Alicent and you'll realize that his choice was a mistake when you watch the rest of the episodes
Right now Daemon is just pissing his brother off, but no serious betrayl. I feel like Daemon dont want to go against his family but at some point something will happen that pushes him over the edge or he gets maipulated.
@@Tyrion2024 rhaenyra indeed likes females. im gonna spoil this for youj, fuck i dont care. rhaenyra loves and fucks laena velaryon alongside daemon in the book. and the actresses state that they played their relationship as romantic in nature, not just friendship.
I agree with Carlie that Lord Corlys was doing too much- standing up before the king and raising his voice to him in the small council meeting. Yes, his house is the most powerful house at the moment, but even Tywin during Game of Thrones never did that to the king, and there was no doubt that Tywin was the most powerful man at that time. There were times that he was in conflict with Joffrey but during that scene where he stood right in front him on the Iron Throne, there was nobody else around, and that one time during the small council meeting when he sent Joffrey to bed, he was still very diplomatic with his words.
@@aj897 Corlys himself possess dragons. His wife Rhaenys rides Maelys, his son Laenor rides Seasmoke and Laena will ride Vhagar. If Corlys true wanted to start a war, he easily could especially with the noble houses in the Crownlands, the Narrow Sea, the Stormlands and the North still views Rhaenys was denied of her birthright.
Because Tywin has never had any legitimate claim to the throne, unlike Corlys. Corlys' wife Rhaenys possess a stronger claim to the throne, and Corlys himself ia Viserys' second cousin once removed because Viserys' great-grandmother and Corlys' grandfather were siblings. At thos time, House Velaryon is practically another branch of House Targaryen with superior claim to the throne based on primogeniture. All that impeccable bloodline on top of the fact that his family is the wealthiest and most powerful in the realm, Corlys has been continously slighted by Viserys. He turns a blind eye of the Crabfeeder bullying and pillaging the coastlines and rejects the marriage with Laena which is the most politcally and stragetically correct move. Corlys may do have some intention but most of his actions is for the realm, unlike Otto's. He is angry just because of his daughter not being queen, he is angry on how incompetent Viserys is as king.

I do think the Alicent and Viserys relationship was a bit rushed, but personally this decision made me like Viserys a bit more. It's important for some characters in media to not simply just be calculated and cunning at all times. While I believe it is going to be his inevitable downfall, I sometimes think that it's important to stay true to ones self, even if that means losing his kingship.
@@CraZeKllutchy Does this decision make him a bad king? I guess so! But surely it doesn't make him a bad person at all. ☝️ I could even understand it if he was in love with Alicent, but I don't think that is the case (yet). 🤷♂️So just Ottos influence? We will see (hopefully).. 😉

Technically he's the 1.0 because this happens way before Little Finger lol
@@istiyantiafifahfadhilah9224 I didn't mean they were the exact same person. Just that both of them are too weak and meek to be a good king.

These past two episodes have been great thus far, it really is a return to form of what made GOT so great in the earlier season's.
Daemon owns the dragon. They are bonded. Dragonriders are never seperated from their dragons. Dragons accompany them since their cradle. So he doesn't need permission for taking his dragon.
Yep, we'll see a good example in the last season of what happens when someone tries to ride a dragon that isn't theirs

Otto in episode 2: _"Laena is...young, your grace."_
Otto in episode 3: _"Marry Rhaenyra to Aegon, who is two years old!"_
Carlie with all the dad jokes "Crab out of them", "Get down from Hightower" 😆😆
I think Damon tried to draw the king away from the council for a non nefarious reason but Otto insisted on him not going and went instead, blocking Damon yet again. Then ultimately the princess went and blocked Otto from starting a conflict with Damon, which Otto didn’t seem happy about.
1. They keep showing us Viserys's various cuts and sores, and how he's struggling to overcome them
2. Daemon keeps losing in his political fights with Otto Hightower. He's been banished from King's Landing and he's now lost the dragon egg
3.Otto Hightower played the king like a fiddle in the matter of his second marriage. He never directly opposed the idea of his marriage to Laena, but he planted enough doubt very subtly to get the king to change his mind; "You are the king (you are at liberty to make whatever decision you like), but I wouldn't want to be in your place (I really wouldn't marry that child if I didn't want to)."
There is myth that if the throne cuts a king, it proves he is not worthy for the throne. I feel like that Viserys will keep making wrong decisions
Caraxes is Daemon's dragon he only steal the egg. love your reactions they're always the best
corlys "this is an absudity
otto "it seems my level 15 high tower beats yours level 12 baby seahorse"
lol
Are you kidding me with some of those shots in the Dragonstone scene...chef's kiss!

The dragon is Daemon's! Last ep you said the dragons look distinguishable. Caraxes can't roar and sounds like a dolphin because he’s got a deviated septum. Also, he can only fly because he has little winged legs. I love him so much he's such a good boy :(
Casting of Alicent is so good, getting mad Catelyn (Tully) Stark vibes.

Nice going Viserys, you should have listened to Daemon about Otto.
exactly ! dude is such a bad king
King doesn't have a dragon now. He was a rider to a biggest dragon of all time. He was probably so great that King could never replace him.

You know this show is good when people are reacting to the original opening theme song. So smart.
Whoever thought that crabs would be a thing to fear? lol
Yep
He knows he can't match the power the dragons possess, which is why he went to Daemon for help
Tywin Lannister: "Any man who must say, I am the king, is no true king." Viserys is a good man, not a good king. Also, don't worry, it wont be like GoT, they have a decent framework and an actual defined ending to work towards, all they need to do is join the dots.
"Otto needs to get off his Hightower" lmaaaooo
It's very rare you hear a tv spin-off or prequal in this case play the same theme song from the original show.
Carlie with the puns was fire. GG
Vhaegar is oldest living Targaryan dragon (arround 160yrs old in tine of this events) and since dragons grow as long as they live he is by far the largest dragon.
Also last living creature from time of Aegon conquest.

Love Your Honest Reactions. Love From India.
Vhagar was ridden by one of Aegons sisters, and is a sister of Balarion the Black Dread.
lol, he didn't steal the dragon, that's his dragon.
We're all _cringing_ at that one scene, forgetting that it was happening way before our years when people as young as 12 or 14 were being married to people twice or thrice their age. But yeah, it's really disturbing. 🙈🙉
Anyway, I like how Daemon is still _protective_ of Viserys, putting Colrys in his place when he bad-mouthed the king. Plus, he didn't hurt his niece and returned to her the dear egg unscathed.

Out of curiosity, which were your favourite characters from GOT? mine was Sansa and Cersei. Show really went to shit the last seasons but the at least the first half of the show is amazing.

Im happy you changed your opinion about daemon 😭😭😂 i was ready to educate you 😭😅😅❤️🔥🐉
I read somewhere that alicent is 7-9 years older than rhaenyra in the books. If that's the case she should be a minimum of 22 years. I don't know if the show is keeping that age diff.
No, the show aged Rhaenyra up to match Alicent's age so they are both 15.
They’re about the same age in the show
They made them closer in age on the show. If Alicent is older, she's maybe two years older tops.
The thing is, they Aged Viserys UP by alot it seems. He's only 28-30 in the books.
Rhaenyria was 8 years old in the books, not 15. If alicent was 7-9 years older than her, she'd still be 15-17
Super drs. Iam from India. I like you both
8:33 Rhaenyra is now the heir to the Iron Throne and no one on the council respects her and just look at the scene, Otto cut Rhaenyra off when she was speaking and Viserys didn't do anything in that situation. If it was Daemon he's already shutting everyone up, mainly from Otto, in the scene with Rhaenys it's Rhaenyra, everything Rhaenys said to Rhaenyra is true, Rhaenyra is heir to the iron throne and yet she continues to give them wine, but the truth is she is participating in the council, but as Rhaenys Said they won't want a woman
Viserys shouldn't have married Alicent he made a wrong choice and now there will be consequences for his choice, Viserys should have married Laena in the book she is At least Rhaenyra's age unlike in the series they put a child I don't know why they did that Probably to be more controversial because he's a child, but anyway he should have chosen Laena and not Alicent and you'll realize that his choice was a mistake when you watch the rest of the episodes
A lot of misunderstanding of the show can be prevented by just turning on the subtitles in HBO lmao

He thinks it's the most powerful but in reality, the power of his navy is no match for even a single dragon
There's no need to apologize for judging Daemon as a piece of shit in episode 1. He was portrayed exactly that way by the showrunners, it was their intent. And most people who were telling you that he's not all that have read the source material so they know, which is kind of a shame because it's somewhat spoiler-y. Viserys kinda lost me in this episode. Lost *and* insulted his greatest ally and pissed off his daughter in one fell swoop. I don't care if Alicent is amazing in bed, he's not doing a good job as king (which I suppose is the point).
Agreed. Highly irrational decision that could have been way less bad if they had been given it a little more time to develope or explain their relationship in some way. Don't start rushing character development. It didn't pay out last time! ☝️

I do think the Alicent and Viserys relationship was a bit rushed, but personally this decision made me like Viserys a bit more. He's a principled guy who makes certain decisions based on his emotions, which I think is very human and relatable.

Corlys has been walking around & talking like he's the King's equal and I love that Daemon checked him for that. He would be more insufferable if the King chose his daughter.
