It is true that we didn't hear Daemon said "The Heir For A Day" and his account might be true after all when he said we each mourn our own ways. We are only told via Otto's report, and we know they despised each other. The labeling could be interpreted in either good or bad way. Just like the title "The Queen Who Never Was" could be considered a mockery but also it could mean you acknowledge that she should be the queen. Maybe Daemon is indeed honoring his dead nephew. One thing is for sure though, i think his love for his brother is genuine, however rogue his ways are. I would like to point out the symbolism of exactly where the throne cut Viserys. First, it stabbed him in the back, making a very large, festering wound they are having to cauterize (burn) to stop the spread. Then, after he declared Daemon was no longer his heir and Daemon accused Otto (the Hand of the Kind) of being a snake, the throne stabbed Viserys in the hand. We saw 2 dragons this episode. Princess Rhaenyra's golden dragon named Syrax which she was riding in the intro and later ignited the funeral pyre. At the end we saw Prince Daemon's red dragon Caraxes. According to lore there are 18 known living dragons at this time.
19:26 interesting. The way I saw it. Daemon is laughing because his brother knows him so well. Daemon DOESNT care that his brother is king over him. Viserys knows Daemon would never betray him. Daemon knows himself he wouldn’t actually be a good ruler. But he knows he could be a good combo to one. He just wants to be up there WITH him. As Hand. Because they’re brothers.
They referenced the White Walker prophecy at the end. When the King was talking to his daughter. Seems it’s a warning passed from king to king. Little did they know it took 172 years to come to pass. And the King even says, A Targaryen has to be on the throne to win that Cold War! Yes, it’s rumored the throne rejects those who aren’t worthy by cutting them! This whole series will show us how such a powerful family like the Targaryen’s become the died off long lost house we see in Season 1 of GoT. After the foul taste the original GoT left in my mouth, I didn't have very high hopes for this. Yet I watched it and it honestly feels like the earlier seasons, maybe not quite there yet, but definitely enough to have me hooked and wanting more of it. I find it hard to pinpoint Daemon, on the one hand he wants to show strength (the city watch part), but then he's also arrogant (the tournament, claiming victory while the fight wasn't over) and straight up horrible (heir for a day?). But on the other hand, he really cares for Rhaenyra and at the funeral he told her, her father would need him more now than ever before, which shows he also cares for Viserys. I think him calling Viserys weak, was his blunt way of telling Viserys to watch out for those at the council and act like a king, which is in line with what he did with the city watch, he feels like the king should show his strength. Viserys seems like he's held things together for those 9 years, but this clearly is coming to an end, I feel like he's made a huge mistake by alienating Daemon, this won't make things easy for Rhaenyra, who already has to fight the fact that some people don't want a woman on the throne. In the end I think it will be between those two and Viserys will be long gone from the picture.

I think everyone just antogonising Daemon but personally i dont think he's bad guy ,he's just an extreme person and soon enough they will notice how necessary he was . NB:like this comment if you think so too . Cause i have a gut feeling by the end of this season or maybe next people will understand him (Eren yager effect)
Thats probably the intention when he was being written, he's definitely an asshole but he loves he's family and is capable of horrible things to keep them and himself safe. He also doesn't care about what people think about it , which is the cool part.
also as a history student I feel like many people look this trough modern lens, they are like "ioh god, he is cutting off hands , so he must be a villain! actually I hate to break it to people but rthere were different laws in medieval times and you had your hand cut off if you stole...it was normal , people need to understand that medieval times is like a different world with different rules
@@HK-gm8pe I also wonder how many people who think Daemon is horrible because of what he did with the City Watch liked Bronn in the original show... because as Commander of the City Watch, Bronn did the exact same thing (rounded up all of the known criminals and had them all killed) before the Battle of Blackwater Bay. The only difference is that with Bronn, they didn't actually show him doing it.
Yup. Sounds like a grey character to me. Like it’s probably an instance of he can be ruthless but he’s not a fully ruthless character. But I feel like every character is gonna have some form of greyness.
Youre right about being skeptical in regard to the "heir for a day" line. In both book and show Otto Hightower (the hand) tells the king that Deamon said it but we dont hear him say it and Deamon doesnt confess to it either, maybe he never said it. And yes there will be a few time jumps! I think next episode will be a couple months ahead.
I think it's safe to expect that this show will not disappoint like the later seasons of Game of Thrones, because the source material for this is already finished, so HBO doesn't have to reinvent anything or change the events too much. Also, the source material is not that long, so hopefully they really won't change a lot of things.
@@fluffimirpuddin1657 Yeah some things happened that I dont remember reading in The Princess and The Queen, though that's to be expected and forgiveable as long as the deviation from the source material is minimal like in seasons 1-4 of GOT.
@@eurongreyjoy1008 It fits the context of what happened in the source material. And the word that I use is reinvent, not invent. By reinventing something, I mean something like Bronn and Jamie going into a secret mission to rescue Myrcella, or Littlefinger giving the real Sansa to the Boltons, something that we just know GRRM would never write. What happened in episode 1 fits the source material really well.
The costume design in this show is some of the best I've ever seen. They somehow make it feel like a medieval period piece with fantasy vibes to it. Just perfect.
@@rullmourn1142 Im aware of that, but unlike GoT, which feels heavily grounded in the medieval period, this appears to have a fantasy flare. As if it's not of this world and our history.
In case you're wondering why he getting cut on the throne is because Agon the conqueror made it that way saying "no King should set easy on a throne" so the King must be alert of his surroundings at all time if I remember correctly
So to explain, Daemon's sword is Valyrian steel and is called Dark Sister while his dragon is Caraxes. The sword belonged to Visenya Targaryen; Wife-Sister of Aegon The Conqueror, founder of the Kingsguard, mother of Maegor The Cruel. In the book, Rhaenyra is about 7 years old when all of this happens, don't know how old is meant to be here.
They changed the timelines a bit. At the start it stated that the great council for succession was called in year 100AC. while in books it was in 97AC or something. So they did change it all a little.
Rhaenyra (the heir) and Rhaenys (The Queen Who Never Was) are first cousins once removed, not aunt and niece. Another way to think about it: the Old King's first son's daughter is Rhaenys, the Old King's second son's son is Viserys (current king) making Rhaenys and Viserys cousins.
I think personally I would have preferred watching the original conquest and beginning of the Valerian reign in westeros. I guess I will settle for this as long they don't make grrm stretch it beyond his vision, keep it tight. The two Davids ruined the other show when they bailed for star wars. But I think that ending was always doomed if it had to finish before the books were done.
First the JJK intro song, now THIS. *_chefs kiss_* Just watched the pilot myself last night! Love the comparison drawn at the beginning about how giving birth is like a battlefield, then later Rhaenyra's mother giving birth is shot alongside scenes of a battle at the tournament. A lot of really nice touches, like a soundtrack that sounds awfully close to the Targaryen theme from GoT. So excited to continue this with both of you! Some coffee and a great reaction to start my morning :)
About Ange talking about the symbolism of getting cut by the Iron Throne. Just an FYI, the Mad King was called "King Scab" because he was always getting cut by the Iron Throne. King Joffrey was also cut by the Iron Throne one or two times in the books if I remember correctly.
Just a note, Targaryens can get burned, they just have a higher tolerance for heat. Daenerys was special. In the books not even Dany is fireproof, that one time was a magical event when her dragons were hatched.
Im little late to the party so they probably will not read it but Targaryens can burn. They are not immune to fair, only specifically Deanarys was fully immune, some magic stuff i don't remember the specifics
Kind of disappointed they didn’t include much of jahearys ruling period. Not sure if they’re going to mention it somewhere along the series. No spoilers or anything, but he is the only king that died of old age I think. And that’s saying a lot for this series.
A reference to the white walkers occurred during the conversation between Vaseris and his daughter, when he was telling her his intentions to make her queen

I`ll make sure after watching every new episode to drop by and check what your take and thoughts are on the show. Cheers.
I’m sure someone’s already said it, but this series revolves around the “Dance of the Dragons” from George’s “history book” Fire & Blood. The Targaryens have comfortable sat the throne for decades, but the circumstances and choices of the members of the current royal family lead to a civil war between them.
I really enjoyed watching your reactions to the Witcher, and likewise I'm really looking forward to this. You two are always a joy to watch, your offer genuine reactions with genuine discussions and insights, Keep up the great work!
I recommend to read a bit about dragons. The Blood Wyrm, specifically, was deformed. Had a longer neck and had flaps on his legs. He was also the the most vicious one. There were literally kings in past who died by cutting themselves too much sitting on throne dying in process.
Yeah Arya named her wolf after Nymeria who was a great warrior princess! .... because of course Arya would do that lol ...... also if you recall one of the three Sand Snakes on the show was named Nymeria. She too was named after the legendary warrior
Daemon's dragon, Caraxes (also known as Blood Wyrm) is a deformed dragon with an unusually long neck, but vicious one of the key weapons of the civil war - Dance of the Dragons!
Caraxes in action is something I can't wait to see. I really hope they portray her as vicious as she is. Probably the most difficult thing for them to do will be Vhagar vs Caraxes in season 3?? I'd assume
House of the Dragon does have a title sequence..it will premiere from the second episode. The show runners decided that it would distract from the story on the first episode.
btw Targaryen's aren't immune to fire at all. Dani was a very special case. Most of the Targaryens were killed in a fire at Harrenhal after all. That's why there were so few in Game of Thrones.
Imagine if Robert Baratheon hadn't rebelled the secret of the White walkers would still be passed threw the family and maybe it would have ended different
Ange, I'm the same as you. (like Reiner and Eren?). I also started with low expectations just to not get disappointed... And ngl it was a damn good first episode. Can't wait to watch more with u guys Edit: Daaaaaaamn that opening???!! Yessss

Seconded
I think next episode will be a couple months ahead.
is no one going to talk about how good ange's cover is .
Ange: "I need to find out the names of the dragons before I start nicknaming all of them"
Me: "The Shredded"
Daemon loves his brother more than anyone. He is a chaos merchant and can be a bit unhinged, but his love for his family supercedes all that
I think it's safe to expect that this show will not disappoint like the later seasons of Game of Thrones, because the source material for this is already finished, so HBO doesn't have to reinvent anything or change the events too much. Also, the source material is not that long, so hopefully they really won't change a lot of things.
They did add some scenes in order to line up with whatever they changed in GoT in regards to the books
@@fluffimirpuddin1657 Yeah some things happened that I dont remember reading in The Princess and The Queen, though that's to be expected and forgiveable as long as the deviation from the source material is minimal like in seasons 1-4 of GOT.
@@iconoclast6555 there no enough scenes in source material for a show. almost all scenes in the first episode are invented
@@iconoclast6555 agree with that
I guess the reason Danny's dragons were similar looking is because there were maybe triplets ? Just a thought :)
The costume design in this show is some of the best I've ever seen. They somehow make it feel like a medieval period piece with fantasy vibes to it. Just perfect.
That's what lt is, obviously influenced by the medieval period, which lasted 1,000 years, btw.
@@rullmourn1142 Im aware of that, but unlike GoT, which feels heavily grounded in the medieval period, this appears to have a fantasy flare. As if it's not of this world and our history.
I think you guys are spot on on Daemon being like Jaimie, a Jaimie who is Targaryen and a dragonrider, pretty scary thing lol
In case you're wondering why he getting cut on the throne is because Agon the conqueror made it that way saying "no King should set easy on a throne" so the King must be alert of his surroundings at all time if I remember correctly
Greyscale
So to explain, Daemon's sword is Valyrian steel and is called Dark Sister while his dragon is Caraxes. The sword belonged to Visenya Targaryen; Wife-Sister of Aegon The Conqueror, founder of the Kingsguard, mother of Maegor The Cruel.
In the book, Rhaenyra is about 7 years old when all of this happens, don't know how old is meant to be here.
Daemon's dragon is called Caraxes. Visenya's dragon was called Vhagar. The dragon Meraxes was bonded to Rhaenys.
CARAXES**
They changed the timelines a bit.
At the start it stated that the great council for succession was called in year 100AC. while in books it was in 97AC or something.
So they did change it all a little.
Love Carli's honesty in how these scenes affect her!!
SO excited to be on this journey with you guys! Ange ABSOLUTELY killed that intro.
Love this cover Angelo, is fire 🔥 The best so far. I play this video everyday just to hear it, you're amazing
Thank you so much Lucia! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Rhaenyra (the heir) and Rhaenys (The Queen Who Never Was) are first cousins once removed, not aunt and niece.
Another way to think about it: the Old King's first son's daughter is Rhaenys, the Old King's second son's son is Viserys (current king) making Rhaenys and Viserys cousins.
The creators said they took special care with making the Dragon's having their own uniqueness, both physically and personality-wise.
Love having read the book. Watching peoples reactions to this and having theories that are so far off. Quite funny
I always love your covers Ange but this one is really amazing. Thank you, great work!
A great reaction as always! I really liked the intro by ange, so epic!!!
Sick guitar intro as usual, super excited to watch this with you guys
In reference to the white walkers, viserys was telling rhaenyra about it, might want to rewatch that part
First the JJK intro song, now THIS. *_chefs kiss_*
Just watched the pilot myself last night!
Ok but I can't be the only one who's thinking that arena lowkey looks like a vulva and it could totally be intentional
Jaehaerys was an amazing king.
Too bad his great-grandchildren mucked everything up.
Amazing cover dude! You literally rock!!
Thanks man!
LETS GOOOOOOOO IM SO HAPPY YOU GUYS DECIDED TO WATCH THIS ITS GONNA BE AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!!!
Never knew you guys had these reactions! time to watch this reaction playlist 😍
About Ange talking about the symbolism of getting cut by the Iron Throne. Just an FYI, the Mad King was called "King Scab" because he was always getting cut by the Iron Throne. King Joffrey was also cut by the Iron Throne one or two times in the books if I remember correctly.
I just finished all of GoT and I'm so glad that ya'll are watching this too oh my lord
Amazing job on the intro song Ange, twas a banger! Thrilled you guys are reaction to this show too, very promising premiere!
Just a note, Targaryens can get burned, they just have a higher tolerance for heat. Daenerys was special. In the books not even Dany is fireproof, that one time was a magical event when her dragons were hatched.
Guitar intro's as sick as always DAMN
Fun fact: Alicent is 11 yrs younger than king Viserys I. and 9yrs older than Rhaenyra.
Daemon grinded that pole like Tony Hawk.
A reference to the white walkers occurred during the conversation between Vaseris and his daughter, when he was telling her his intentions to make her queen
I love how you scroll through the comments and every second and third comment is about Daemon lol
Im new to this channel but i already watched some of the videos and im glad to have found a reaction channel with people like you.
Love the reactions and the discusions and questions you put out.
I`ll make sure after watching every new episode to drop by and check what your take and thoughts are on the show.
Cheers.
Hell yeah bro! That intro was fantastic!
Yayy so excited you guys are reacting to it
Subbed! Loved the episode and your reaction!
I recommend to read a bit about dragons. The Blood Wyrm, specifically, was deformed. Had a longer neck and had flaps on his legs. He was also the the most vicious one.
There were literally kings in past who died by cutting themselves too much sitting on throne dying in process.
"Kings"
Viserys is literally the 5th king to sit on the throne. Only maegor before him was cut by the thrones occasionally but he didnt die of it.
I would say the bloodwyrm would be the second most vicious dragon of this era, there still one we the viewers have yet to see 💯😈
Thanks for the intro now I don't have to wade thru cruddy tabs😂👏🤘
I justo came to leave the like, ill watch the episode by myself and then i comeback to see your reaction bc i enjoy your content a lot :)
Random anecdote: Daenerys is the only Targaryen that’s fireproof. It’s not a familial thing, it’s specific to her.
She’s not really fireproof, it was just the ritual that made her fireproof.
@@神林しマイケル yeah but she saw the ritual in dreams. So it was probably meant to be.
That intro was fire .
great reaction as always! not onna lie was hopping to see a rendition of the Targaryen theme/OST but the standard series one sounds amazing too!
The throne cuts those who are not deemed worthy of it
The historybooks will say that Aemma died in childbirth, but that was bloody murder.
Also, #DaemonDidNothingWrong.
Just the part where he mocks the stillborn
That wasn't murder....she was going to die anyway. It was the only way to attempt to save at least one life but unfortunately it failed.
Are people blind or something, the maester literally says out loud 'sacrifice one or lose them both'.
How funn it’s the fact that all Ange’s guesses/theories are pretty wrong 😂 At least he tried
I'd assume
@@nervachadikus Vhagar vs Caraxes (Kinslayer vs Daemon 😏) is something that I’m looking forward to!
@@HORNZ9002 It'd be interesting to see how they portray Aemond. Can't wait to see that sapphire
House of the Dragon does have a title sequence..it will premiere from the second episode. The show runners decided that it would distract from the story on the first episode.
Really enjoyed your reaction, definitely watching again. 👍
Love your guys’s reactions!
btw Targaryen's aren't immune to fire at all. Dani was a very special case. Most of the Targaryens were killed in a fire at Harrenhal after all. That's why there were so few in Game of Thrones.
Damn, that was an awesome cover.
Loved the guitar intro!
LOVE your reaction🎉
giving you a like purely for that sick guitar intro
12:31 OH was she wrong 🤣
Imagine if Robert Baratheon hadn't rebelled the secret of the White walkers would still be passed threw the family and maybe it would have ended different
if only regar was more responsible nobody would have thought he kidnapped lyanna.
Oh, here come the deep thoughts. Would not have expected less of you! 👍 Indeed there are many "what if's" in this story. 😉
Never stop the theme covers!!
Targaryens can definitely be burned by the way, they are not immune to fire.
THE INTRO!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I’m actually surprised a lot of reactors didn’t notice the smaller baby wrapped
Ange, I'm the same as you. (like Reiner and Eren?). I also started with low expectations just to not get disappointed... And ngl it was a damn good first episode. Can't wait to watch more with u guys
Edit: Daaaaaaamn that opening???!! Yessss
Sick intro! You should really do more covers!
Daemon is rough around the edges but he loves is family above all else
I really liked your reactions on ATO, DS, and now HOT D you guys great
and by the way this moment 9:02 i really laughed saying yaahh you about to change your mind :))
Why does everyone think Alicent is being sent to sleep with the king? Clearly he's not currently looking for sex anyway.
you guys know how in this show they give life and take it, i was wondering if daemon died there do you think the kid wouldve survived? cause it survived while it looked like daemon was about to die and then when daemon yielded the baby died soon after
I love how different peoples opinions are coming out of this episode. For me Daemon is at least less slimy that Otto who sends his daughter , but I think it’s just that I latch on to certain character types😅
I have second thoughts now about Eren being the shredded. The way you were shredding that cover was just great to hear.
that guitar cover goes so hard wooooo
Wooo you guys are finally reacting to a show I've had some interest in! I haven't seen any of the other shows you've been reacting to other than Arcane and you League videos, but I can't wait to watch this show with you! Hopefully many episodes to come!
That cover was too good.🔥
I think you will be surprised on who will be on who´s side in the war to come. If they stay close to the books the whitewalkers will play no role btw.
as a book reader i'm so excited for this series and so far the adaptation has been perfect
and yeah the got finale is disrespectful to the books, the fans and mr martin
As a GGRM fan and avid book reader. I'm with George R.R. Martin. Dameon Targaryen is one of my favorite characters in all of the histories of this world. Top two for me definitely. I'll leave this tid bit. Dameon is a little crazy. But..... was he wrong? 😏.... hehehehe..
Daemon is not a piece of shit just because he was disrespectful.
