- This is the final stint for Max Verstappen in the iRacing 24 hours of Daytona. Some might say that Team Redline slip streamed their way to victory, but this was the perfect strategy to get the team win and not as easy as it looks!

Maxs best lap was a 1:4307 and mine was 1:464. Therefore he is 3% faster than me. I’m claiming that makes me 97% F1 world champion.
My fastest was 1:44:5 can I get an F1 seat?
I acctually put the BMW on pole wuth a 1:44.456 I damn near fell out my rig when I did that as I am a 1.7k driver. Was taken out by a prototype within 4 hours but still we manged to finish the race p16 truly amazing watching the percision of these 2.

Impressive. If I had tried the slipstream tactic it would have resulted in two cars pitting for repairs shortly after the first brake zone.
I mean they did it for the whole 24 hours and gained like 5-7 tenths a lap because of it.

Believe it or not I was watching Max's stint live and was watching where his breakpoints were etc. and I jumped into a session on iRacing with the Ferrari 296 at Daytona and improved my lap time by a 1sec. Just by watching someone else drive I was able to improve.
Watching Max in real in a F1 car, we can't learn a shit from it. Watching him in simracing yeah we can learn a lot!

You can learn loads from watching other drivers. For example.... I work away a lot and can spend 6 weeks+ away from my rig. In that time I often watch people's streams and tutorials etc. After my last stint away. I came back and tried to put what I learned in theory, into my driving. Low behold I'm not yoyoing in and out on ACC LFM split one and I can now be competitive. I'm not winning races but I can atleast race inside the top 15-10 out of 30+ drivers. Gaining positive elo.
The 296 at Daytona this week was really fun. Can’t wait for them to pair up again some day.
I LOVE THE SHOT AT 50:50 , Max in front giving his teamate the tow and all you see in the rear view camera is a merecedes benz LOGO! Really cool.

Ariel did an astonishing job, well we all know he is an incredible driver, but we must admit, it is not easy to race with a 3-time F1 Champion on your neck, even if he is helping you, it is a great responsibility. Amazing teamwork!

I wasn't expecting much when I clicked on this video, but it was very entertaining. Love him or hate him, Max is a demon behind the wheel.
i had the pleasure of watching this live. 100% perfection from both drivers.
It was amazing to me while watching the race, the chasing or bumping car would always create the open spot for both cars in the braking zones. This made the LMP and GTP cars back off more in T1, the infield, Nascar 1, and the bus stop. I think all other drivers saw the #4 and #2 Redline cars as one body on the track. Great video. Thanks for posting!
Max actually spun at one point doing the bump draft ( that left hander after the long straight) but quickly caught his team mate back up about 20mins later to commence the bump draft again
i was watching live on Steel river Sims stream, and rewound it to see it again.... it was going into turn 1 in the heavy braking zone.....he wasnt bump drafting there. Apparently his teammate in front had a tiny bobble and Max had to brake harder than expected to avoid hitting him, which caused the spin into turn 1. Luckily no GTP's/LMP's directly behind him, so there was no damage, only lost 6 seconds, and Max actually drove quicker to catch him.
Max does that from time to time in F1 as well LOL.

The coordination is magical. When they let through that LMP in the second horseshoe around the 16:30 mark, it was pure poetry.
This guy had Max in his back seat for a while and didnt skip a beat.

I did a few races with him in the ir18 at gateway a few years ago now, wait until we get rain and the daytona 24 hours will be a very different animal!, will be great to see max in the rain.
For me it was Homestead in the IR18 he beat me to the line on the last lap for the win

Being the best in Sim and IRL is really impressive! So many IRL drivers that are not that fast in the sim. It’s pretty special.
i drove along side (behind) a lot of this stint in testdrive mode. i just had to skip the bustop to keep up. but its beautiful to watch the consistency. But i have the replay to see my car in it and his celebratory donuts at the end on my computer for the rest of time.
Found it funny when he lost his rear spoiler ore the other redline amg in those donuts at the finish 😂

He did a testing session a couple of weeks ago in a Ferrari.
If the Merc is 0.05 seconds faster per lap on this track, they are picking it every time. And it was a rocket ship this week.
RBR doesn't care about Honda anymore so....

Perfect team strategy, without which i think the ART team would've taken the win. Matching these guys for pace on their own, withiut draft! Insane talent all these top split guys 👌 Very clean race overall too.
The ART team employed the same strategy, so I doubt that, eventhough their pace in the latter part of the race was actually better than that of Redline.
@@n.janssen7676I was curious about that. I was watching the first few laps and noticed that the ART team was 2-4 tenths faster a lap.
The number 198 ART car was actually like 10 laps down from quite early on in the race so from that point on they only stayed in to help the 199 ART car. At some point they had another incident to cost them another 15 laps though, so the 199 car lost quite some time when they didn't get a draft for 15+ laps. But that's all part of endurance racing. You need a bit of luck and consistency to stay out of trouble to win as well as talent.

Not really just to fund Sim but same guy and "really well" is the understatement of the century dude just had a season nobody in F1 has ever had broke all kinds of records. Dude had a race won with 1 lap to go and was so far ahead talked the team into letting him pit to change tires all for the goal of getting the fastest lap LMAO and he got it! I laughed so hard at that, the man is a beast that takes no prisoners and I'm here for it!

I am gearing up for the 24 Daytona this weekend, my best laptime is 1:45.1 what I am trying to grasp his down shifts sound so much diff then mine, is he ftgering the throttle at all while downshifting? Anyone know?
Beast mode-Max has won on every iracing platform he has attempted and usually by a large margin.

Im wondering why isn't he overtaking the car in front?why are lmps overtaking them easily?
I mostly play NASCAR on iracing. The depth perception is very difficult for me while trying to make turns on road courses on a screen. I was told VR helps make depth perception better.
VR is a must if you have difficulty with screens, everything is in real life scale, it's hard to describe but the depth perception is almost the same like in real life. It's like you are in a 3d world.
But it's still in development, so you need a really extremely beefy pc to fully enjoy it, at least a 3080 or more.
VR gives you depth information.
Yes, if you struggle on screen a) get more screen(s) or b) get VR.
I use VR exclusively and it is pure magic.
It would have been great if you would have vocally annotated this clip Dave. About breaking points, lines, throtle application and gear changes(downshifts) etc.
My team drove a GTP in our split of the Daytona 24, the fastest lap time in our split was 2 solid seconds off the fastest GTP in this race

Entry list shows no MV in 2024 Virtual LeMans this year. I'm not surprised after the last debacle. It's not just MV; the 2024 VLM competitor list looks like a chapter out of Whose's Nobody.

You are a few seconds faster this way because you max out the pit limiter

yes, they were live on twitch. max didn't have his camera (probably was racing at one of his many secondary sim rigs without his streaming gear im sure), but the rest of his team did.

Can someone explain me why he is not overtaking for a very long time despite he is right in the back of the car in front of him (for example around minute 15) ? Is it simply because it's too hard to overtake or is it some kind of strategy ? Thanks
He’s bump drafting to help the other car and himself catch up to the lead group or sometimes people use it to break away from big groups it’s a very common strategy. Basically it’s faster to bump someone making them go slightly faster and staying in the draft than going for a pass that isn’t gonna stick. On tracks like this that have long sections without turns it’s not gonna be an easy pass cause of the draft. If he tried passing he’d just lose time cause eventually the other car will gain draft speed and go for a pass as well making both drivers lose time.
The car in front is from the same team, they are bumpdrafting. This strategy gives them a lot of speed in the oval section and can be worth a few tenths over a lap
Is the shifting while on the pit limiter done for a purpose???
Yep, the shifting will very shortly increase speed, and then back down again (limiter), so that the average speed through the pit lane is just a little bit higher. All tenths count!

In the future Max wants to encourage top Level sim racers to make the transition to real live Racing. I believe the setup for his own GT team is already in place with him testing all kinds of GT cars to eventually use in his team.

@@hoineenietjij3331 The point I’m making is you have to have the best of both to win. So many people on iRacing get caught up in setups and secrecy and such, but what makes the biggest difference in lap time is technique. So yeah setup is good, but without a top driver you aren’t gonna get these times.

agreed, you have to learn to be quick even off the racing line. not to mention, it also takes a lot more spacial awareness and focus to race in multiclass.

why is he doing that with the gears at the beginning?
you get a small speed advantage, it causes you to max out the pit limiter. just to gain a couple tenths. there were no rules against doing it, even though it is kinda exploit-y

You can go 1 or 2 kph over the pit speed limit by doing that

@@BombdiverBT Bumpdrafting benefits both cars, not just the leading car! Also they do switch later on, so Max is in front as well. I'd say if done by good drivers, the risk of bumpdrafting is minor/worth it, especially if both drivers know what they are doing. I'd assume the amount of stress is probably lower the more experience you have doing it, in Oval racing it's just normal I think? I personally am not really comfortable doing it as much, as I would 100% mess it up at some point 😂
