Simply hide WhatsApp from easily visible screen location and put it inside a folder where multiple apps are kept, like inside a box.. And just mute all your contacts and groups..

i think its because the version downloaded is the most recent so it skipped a lot of the process. i just installed it and it works great. just read along when you select your options and it should work great

In latest android os there's option to freeze the apps immediately. That can help you out.

Please follow all the instructions and check again. You might not have hibernated WhatsApp.
