I found this video and the other one on how to safely access the spring in the switchblade button very helpful, hardest part was finding the replacement parts. The local volvo dealership quoted me $500 plus for a new key, I fixed it for less than $20 thanks to this video.
I took mine all apart, then I realized that the tabs on the silver button were broken. I had to order a new key and then cut that one open just so I could get a new button. I then glued the old one back together using the new button. What a pain. I used the jb weld that is especially made for plastic. I hope it all stays together after all that effort. I left my other key in limp mode because I don't want to go through that process again in case my repair fails.
You dont have to use the top cover and twist counter clock wise ... The chrome buttom has 2 big square "ears" that fit the key blade and 2 smaller ones 90° on the big ones that fits in the lower part in the circular "grove" where the spring is. You can twist the chrome nop until tension is good .. take the blade a little bit down, then you can get those 2 small "ears" in the responding groves and turn the blade full open. The chrome nop is now secured and held in place .. just press the top on
Good point. I would suggest eBay or a local wreckyard. Sometimes, cars in the wreckyard will still have the keys in ignition. I may have one. Let me know if you want me to look.
What kind of adhesive did you use? I used LePage Plastic 2 stage glue from Home Hardware but 3 years later and it came apart again Edit: nvm, jb weld. Did it hold ?
Praise THC420 same here. You need to buy a doner key fob off ebay for a few dollars. You cut that one open to salvage the button and transfer it to yours.

@@kapiteurfound it?

Xacto knife works if you snap off the tip (about 1/16") and use the backside to scrape away that seam. The same principle as a plexiglass cutter.
Thank you. This helped me a lot to assemble the key.

Won’t you have to glue the key tho?
Thanks this exactly what I needed help with.
you started out with the FOB disassembled. How did you get to that place?
I have another video that shows how to disassemble.

excellent. well explained.
This video shows how to reassemble the bits, but WHERE do you get the replacement parts, please??

Can you still get the replacement parts? I have only found the plastic fob. Not the cilindrical metal key thing that flips the key
Nah, don’t think so. You would need to buy a used key and take apart.
@@Bigtime_mcalpinethanks for still responding!
Where's the immobilizer RFID chip (pill)? Do you not have those where you live?
I’ve got another video that shows where that is and how to remove.
What kind of adhesive did you use? I used LePage Plastic 2 stage glue from Home Hardware but 3 years later and it came apart again
Edit: nvm, jb weld. Did it hold ?
I used The JB Weld plastic product. Still holding strong.
Perfect thanks 😊
Will this have to be reprogrammed since you're taking it apart?
No as long as you keep same transponder you are good
Hi there, I'm also in Ontario and have 2 fobs to repair. How much do you charge to fix them ?
Hi there KoK, I will do them for $50 each. Would just need a bit of lead time to get some spare fobs for you.
Kings of Killarney looks like I actually have one spare fob lying around. So I could fix one now if you are interested
@@Bigtime_mcalpine Are you still fixing fobs? If not, do you have a lead on where one can find the parts?
Or do what I did, give the taken apart remote to your Tetris loving wife, and it goes together in 2 seconds..... And works.
That’s funny - I have a Tetris-loving wife too. Should have tried that!
@@Bigtime_mcalpine hahahaha
How do I get to the spring? Do I have to saw it open?

@@Bigtime_mcalpine thanx, big help, these vids, but unfortunately it's the notches on the switchblade button that broke, trying to source one now

can you buy a new button? My tabs are broken on it.
No but you can by an empty fob on eBay I think.
