First TH-cam preview of both the new Canon RF Dual Fisheye and the new Canon RF 35mm f/1.4 VCM. Score! High quality balanced reviews pay off in the long run. Thanks for not just dishing the hype like so much of what I see. Nice one!
Thanks! I prefer a calm, considered approach without hype, and some companies prefer that too!
Thanks Gordon. Do you know what are the recorded image sizes in pixels for the photos and videos?
I don't, but it may be on Canon's website. I'd assume roughly half the camera's max photo or video res.
I got the full frame lens and was curious on this. But it only being 144° kind of ruins it for vr video.
yes, 144 degree is not enough for VR.
Canon finally some love for RF-S. bring the tilt shift, fast zooms and dare I dream super fast primes. This dual does look interesting
Cool looking lens!
Interesting. Did you see the R7 lens at the Apple Event?
No, I missed the Apple event, but heard they announced another VR lens, albeit as a development for now.
@@cameralabsApple mentioned yesterday on their WWDC 24 the R7 as a collaboration with Canon to produce VR content for their Vision Pro headset. They showed the R7 with this lens. They also announced the Vision Pro It’s coming in July to the UK as well as other select countries around the world. I think some people may be attracted to this lens/ camera combo to produce early content on the Apple Vision Pro on their platform in Vimeo.
Well, since there are no more 3D TVs, anymore, where are we suposed to watch the 3D Videos made with these lenses? Is it only for VR devices?
It's for VR headsets, or for looking around a scene on a 2D screen.
Although a VR headset will give you the most immersive experience, you can view VR content on your computer screen by pointing at the area you want to watch with your mouse while the video is running. Alternatively you could watch it on a smartphone by moving your phone around to the area you want to watch. (I believe you do need to install the TH-cam app to watch in VR though). I'm still a beginner, but I've been using the fisheye 2.8 with the R5C in some of my footage and its a very fun experience.
There is also products like the Looking Glass... shipping next month
SpatialLabs 3D monitors, too.
Interesting to see Canon releasing a more affordable option for 3D and VR creation. The RF-S 3.9mm f/3.5 STM lens seems like a good fit for APS-C mirrorless bodies like the EOS R7...I am decided to buy my first camera usually I used to take rent hope I will buy it soon sir
If you get it, let us know what you think!
@@cameralabs ya sure sir

Can Canon PLEEAASSSSEEEE come out with a replacement for the 8-15 Fisheye =C
I'm sure they'll eventually do RF versions of most popular EF models, albeit with a new twist - I wonder what that could be with the 8-15?
Any Sample files?
Only the one I show in this preview. I'm not sure it's that useful or if I can share it
Saw this at the apple event
I think that was a different lens, a development announcement.
Thanks for this extremely interesting video, Gordon. One question: the lens seems very close on the right-hand side to the camera body grip. Does it cause any problems with handling at all?
You're right, it is a bit tight, but it's ok.
@@cameralabs Thanks Gordon. I don't think I am quite in the market (yet) for this lens, but I am certainly interested and just needed to check.
Is about time for fujifilm x e5 anybrumors?? Or maybe is already under review😂😂
I hope they do one...
another lens for perspective (180) VR content
maybe we can buy EOS R7 with that lens and shoot a music video
I'm sure you could!
Thank you Gordon, maybe you could upload a 360 video using the lens?
It’s 3D not 360 degree.
I have the clip I showed in the video of me in front of it?
It should be uploaded as a VR180 video on TH-cam for it to be displayed properly
I would love to see the raw files before any conversion. Seems theres still a lot of wasted pixels around the image circles - I had expected the reduced 144 degree to mean the projected images was cropped circles taking up more sensor area.
Wow two stereo RF-S lenses announced in one day
Eh? What's the other one?
@@cameralabs there's a 7.8mm as well, announced with apple for some reason?
@@cameralabs RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM announced at Apple WWDC
@@anthonydiiorio ah, I missed the Apple event. I think it's a development announcement, but it was kept very secret!

Sort of a novelty lens to offer before greater needs in the EF-S lineup
I agree they should make many other RF-S lenses, but I think this is a completely different division.
It's just here for you to make us a R5II review in VR. Cheers Gordon. Love your videos.
Thanks! Yes, it'd be fun to one in VR!
Okay thanks, Im understanding you have to print them off on photos and use a stereo viewer or use a VR headset somehow..
It's for a VR headset really, for 3D video.
i don't like it. Capturing a circle on a square sensor already loses a lot of resolution. Now you capture TWO circles onto ONE 3x2 square and you lose even more. The lenses SHOULD be designed to project a square to utliuse more of the sensor and then be adjusted in processing. Each lense SHOULD have its' own sensor either a camera with two sensors OR like how ZCAM did it using a link cable to sync the 2 bodies. Overall i give this system an F for function and an A+ for marketing.
cicles are neccesary for 180 degree. But since this is 144 im also confused why they did not crop the cicles and light up more sensor area.
Super neat, and a Canon exclusive. It's expensive older brother has allegedly been doing most of the work for immersive vision pro experiences. 4k per eye demands an 8k sensor.
If I had to guess, this new variant will be for ... Alternative Content Creators... who want to enhance their immersive catalog on a cheaper body. Only for fans...
I might just rent one do so some POV walk content actually 🫡
It's certainly way more affordable, especially when you take the body price too. And, er, yes, certain genres always lead the way!
But is the resolution quality of this lens good enough for an immersive vr experience like that. Asking for a friend….
Looks like an insane lens I have NO idea what to do with. And at this point I would have no use for as I am a Sony shooter after 20 years of Canon.
It's for VR tours of vintage camera gear!
So, this is why Canon let Sigma and Tameron make lenses for the RF-S mount. Canon really can't be arsed to make proper lenses for its APS-C line-up. The lack of continuous AF for video is disappointing. I hope it would come in future firmware updates, but highly doubtable and unlikely.
I think continuous AF may look a bit weird in a VR environment, but I'm not an expert. The previous one was MF only and it didn't seem to hold anyone back!
Google, define what a niche lenses is.
A speciality lens
I honestly don't know who these are for.
They're for making content for VR headsets or for moving around on a 2D screen.
