  • They were the ultimate comeback artists, possibly in NHL history. They stared down elimination and won every time.

This team gotta be one of the greatest stories of all NHL time right? Literally battling almost every team to game 7s(and comming back from 3-0) and just never gave up. Those storylines is what NHL needs to stand out

This was a very special team where the will overcame the disadvantages. The chemistry and how well the team was balanced by DL a coached by DS speaks volumes itself.
What makes their 2nd SC win so hugely impressive is the fact that all 3 first series were won over teams that were even hotter candidates to win. Sharks, Ducks and Chicago were super hot teams, probably the best 3 teams on paper. Rangers were not even close to those 3 teams in terms of size, skill and organized game.
What made the Rangers contenders was the fact that Kings were, as the man says in the video, beat up from completing 3 absolutely grueling series and they simply ran on their reserves of just pure will and heavy tight friendship this team was known for. Where one guy would fall, his teammates would take over.
Yes, I am a long time Kings fan but this particular SC victory is the most impressive run at SC in history of NHL by a long shot, by any team.
There might have been better teams who won SC than this Kings team. Yes. In terms of skills, speed and other aspects purely of technical character, they were not the best.
But they were the toughest, tightest bunch of guys, from top down, ever to step on ice to play for any hockey trophy.
This team was the Spartacus version of hockey. They just refused to loose and nobody and nothing could stop them in their thirst to hoist the Cup again.
Many Kings fans are hoping Kings will win SC soon again. I am not that optimistic. This was a very special group of not just players but all the people behind them that formed a perfect storm of victory that wasn't supposed to be in the eyes of many (except Barry Melrose, who, BTW, knows hockey better than most).

The 2014 conference finals between the Kings and the Hawks was one of best playoff series I've ever seen! The back and forth between the two teams was crazy. Chicago was one goal away from another cup!! So close

The kings were more dominant in 2012, but they had the better team in 2014. They played much tougher teams the second time around

Both kings Stanley cup championship runs were special in their own way.
2012: lead every series 3-0 and finish 16-4
2014: game 7 each of first 3 rounds. And take 3-0 series lead in Stanley cup final.
Both Stanley cup final wins, they took the series lead 3-0.

In both series the first two games in the final went into OT, all of them were won by the Kings, in both years in the finals in games three Kings won in shut out, in both years in WCF in game two Carter scores hat trick, ...

The series against Chicago was the best series I've ever seen. Some of the best hockey from two of the best teams. There wasn't a doubt that the 2014 WCF was THE defacto Stanley Cup Final. Either team would have steam rolled Montreal or the Rangers.

  • @hughjainisis1683

Perfectly encapsulates the Kings: being dominant out of nowhere in 12 and then making it as difficult for themselves as possible in 14 with 21 GPs going into the finals.

Crazy run. I remember thinking that year, each round, "okay they're done now." And being proven wrong everytime. For me, it was the first year that I truly was convinced that "anything can happen" (in the nhl playoffs).

1:58 It was a knuckler from Marleau that floated through bodies and into the net that won Game 3 for the Sharks, and looked to be deflating for the Kings after they had all the best chances in OT.

Your comment about Marian Gaborik being a potential Conn Smythe winner has huge merit. Without Gaborik's goals, the Kings do not get past Anaheim in Round 2. But, Justin Williams deserved to win for his performances when the stakes were at their highest and all the chips were down.

2012: Dominance 2014: Resilience. Kings did not have home ice for the first three rounds. Won all Game 7's on the road. NHLdotcom voted Kings-Blackhawks best series of the decade. Probably the best series I've seen. G-7 of CHI, G-1 and G-2 of NYR, Kings were behind 2-0 in the game. Quick was back to Conn Smythe Quick after the Game 4 of SJS. CHI could ring it up on anybody.

Great playoffs overall! This was the first year of the current four division format; a modified version of the old divisional playoff format, only it's the top three in each division getting in, plus two Wild Cards per conference. Amazing. Kings started 0-3 and won; that seven-game West Final was off the chain! Very amazing playoffs overall

that overtime loss game 7 in the WCF will never be forgotten. It still stings to this day. hawks would've killed the rangers and would have had 3 straight stanley cups 4 rings... :(

    • @zhanki_8064

      @koolaidman2702 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hawks were the second best possession team that year. Rangers would have been better against Chicago but they likely still lose. Chicago's forward lines and Dcore were better considering Leddy was our #6 guy that year still.

two cup wins are why I consider them my 2nd team. It’s just a shame how much they’re struggling right now because 2012/2014 Kings were sick.

This was the 2nd time the Kings prevented a SC Final between 2 original six teams. This time, they spoiled a Hawks-Rangers SC Final (as would Tampa Bay the next season). The other time of course was in '93 when that team also won a road game 7. The hockey gods had enough of Toronto-Montreal by that time, I guess!

Some thoughts on my Sharks........ 2004 Western Conference Finals...... In the two Sharks wins in the series Calgary went down clawing and scratching, scrums in front of the net and in the corners, gloves to the face, maybe a butt end....ect......
In Calgary`s 4 wins............... You saw none of that from the Sharks in any of those games! It became apparent to me (pardon the pun........) The Sharks need some teeth!!!!!!!!! And until that mentality is correct....... I don`t see them winning a cup!
