  • I've found this Dracaena Marginata on my street near a dumpster and I had to take it in and rescue it. In this video I'm showing you how to identify the reasons that makes a plant to die and how you can rescue it. Also I'm presenting you a full Dracaena plant care guide including: light, watering, soil and fertiliser requirements also general plant information as: plant origin, name meaning, propagation, toxicity and much more.

      I have saved many dying plants. Peace lily is one of my favourite. It is crazy how it wilts and grows back with watering 😍

      I have a oak IV that is now bigger than me that when I got it it was dying from some grocery store that wasn't taking care of it. Someone was throwing away their chain of hearts not knowing that it grows from succulent bulbs that are under the dirt and even after explaining that she still didn't want it so I got it. Spider plants but those are so obscenely easy to take care of and keep growing that if I'm ever blessed to have a kid I know that if they ever become interested in plants as well I would start them off with a spider plant. They really are one of the most hearty plants that I know. If they are successful with that then I'd probably move on to a golden pothos and then maybe to a philodendron. After that then a peace lily because then that helps instill the knowledge that plants can be incredibly temperamental and even the slightest changes can make a big difference and so as soon as they master that I would probably give them a holiday cactus. Probably a Thanksgiving cactus. After that, I would then let them research the plants that they would want to try to take care of next. Then that means we can Branch off to so many other different plants!

    I've been taking the beat care of my dracaena marginata for about 5 years. About a year ago I took it to my office and because the cleaning lady was putting way too much water, I wanted to take it home with me to repot it and put new soil as it was oveflown. And then I made a fatal mistake😥 I left it in the car 😭 for about 30 hours. And I live in the desert where it's ridiculously hot. I neglected my plant and I almost had a heart attack when I saw it. It went from being beautiful and big and green to dry, fragile and broken. I reported and watered it and I am hoping every day that it will be able to recover. I will never forgive myself for neglecting her 😭 If you have any tips I would really, really appreciate it 🙏

    • @iedenchannel
      @iedenchannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't beat yourself up, Dracaena is used with hot weather, if the roots were affected by overwatering was already damaged , the fact that you kept it in the car it just accelerated the situation. Mine also is not going very well considering I had to leave it to spend the winter outdoors and the weather was not exactly what you would expect from a typical Greek winter + the lockdown (I couldn't go there for several months to chech on it). But I have an idea for mine that could work for yours as well: cut some healthy parts of it and put its in the soil, in this way not only that you'll get new plants but might induce new leafs to the mother plant. Worths a try! 💚

    How is this Dracena? I'm just rescuing my little one. Suddenly it began to fall apart. Dropped leaf by leaf. I realized my mom was watering too. When I took it out of the pot the ground was piled up. I cleaned the root and planted it in new soil. I hope I did the right thing ?! 🍀🌱💚

    Update? I'm nervous because I keep hearing multiple things on what to do and I'm scared because one of them is cutting it down to a certain point and then the other is your video here where you don't cut it and I want to see the difference in recovery

    • @iedenchannel
      @iedenchannel  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mine it didn't survived, unfortunately. But the reason was that we left it in the yard with that one leaf (it was too big to take it with us) and we left the house to spend the winter in our downtown apartment. We couldn't come back for few months because of the lockdown and that was the coldest winter in Greece in the last 60 years. I have another one now that grows spectacularly.
      Maybe a solution for your dilemma would be to cut a branch and try to propagate and leave the rest of the plant to see if it will recover. Because if the plant is dying, even the propagation might not be successful, unfortunately. I saved many plants during the years, but I also failed to save few that were too damaged.
      I really hope you'll save your plant, please keep me updated and good luck!

    I repoted my 20 years old dracanea into different soil (compost, coconut coir and perlite). I masaged the roots and removed old soil without making damages. The plant since a month is dropping and yellowing leaves. From a nice bushy plant there are only few leaves left. It has new shots but they did not grow since repotting. The soil is still moist so it wont be water issue. I misted the leaves for a week but there was no improvement. What can i do to help recover? Please anyone advise, i love my plant and dont want to lose it.

    • @iedenchannel
      @iedenchannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience Dracaena is not a plant that likes moist soil, I only water mine when the top soil is comply dry and even then not too much water. 1st check your new pot drainage, maybe it doesn't have a proper one. 2nd replace the moist soil with a dry one, at least half of it if you can not replace all. If the drainage is ok, put some kitchen paper under the pot and replece it when gets wet (will absorb the water excess). Place it in a spot with light, if possible toward east, the morning sun is not damaging the leaves. Water once per week. Good luck! 💚

    • @irson8981
      @irson8981 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iedenchannel Thank you for the reply. The drainage should be ok as always make an extra holes in the pot. I don't want to change the soil as it will disturb the roots even more. When repotting in the past I never removed the old soil from the roots only was going for the bigger pot, this time I removed all old soil. The plant is over 2 mt tall. I can say the tallest branches are more affected than the lower ones. It seems that plant is not able to deliver the water up high. I also thought that perlite could affect it. I always used general potting soil and the plant thrived well. All branches are affected but no new shoots, however this seems to stop growing. I misted the leaves for some time but no improvement. I hope it will recover. Could it be a transplant shock?

    • @iedenchannel
      @iedenchannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure if the damage is only from repotting, I think it might have something to do with the new conditions: pot, soil, water, light.
