This band was definitely targeting the ladies. Glam hair band definition. Tons of airplay for Bon Jovi for a good 10 years solid. Still a staple for classic Rock stations. I prefer their earlier stuff myself.
Consider that this was written by the same guy who wrote “I Was Made for Loving You” by Kiss, “I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett, “Dude Looks Like a Lady” by Aerosmith (admittedly dated and a little cringe), and “Livin’ La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin. Desmond Child was a genius songwriter.
The chorus melody was previously used in Bonnie Tyler's "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)", but that song didn't become a hit. So Desmond brought it to Jon & Richie and that Songwriters Hall of Fame trio came up w/ this #1 hit that's still popular to this day.

Other HUGE notables: Let It Rock, Livin' On A Prayer, Wanted Dead Or Alive, Raise Your Hand, I'd Die For You...this album was just ridiculous! S-tier for me! Cheers.
More than just a band our moms like. Richie is a killer player and his backing vocals are fantastic. Some very underrated deep cuts out there with major guitar chops.
It was a secret for a long time that all the bass parts were played by a studio musician instead of the guy that appeared in all their videos. Many years later that studio musician became their full-time bassist.
Jon is also a great human being. He opened a restaurant and you only pay what you are able to. He gives back to his community. Plus, they now have a winery!!
Watching you guys is a strange paradox where i get joy out of it while realizing how old i actually am. To have seen these bands come and go and remember it like yesterday. It's fun to check the reaction of the younger gen. Thanks guys!
yep! I'm 43 and I LOVE them. Saw them in concert in 95. "Blaze of Glory" is a really lit solo effort by Jon BonJovi for the movie Young Guns 2. Definitely worth a listen.
The second repeat "bad name" in the chorus is guitarist, Richie Sambora. At least live it was him. They used the same formula to fine effect on the "wanted" in "Wanted Dead or Alive."
Bon Jovi was my first ever concert. I was 9, my dad took me 😂 I would love to see you hit Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi. My Gen X mum looooved it when I was growing up.
This album was and still is 🔥🔥🔥. Pretty much anything Bon Jovi did was 🔥. He's the king of sweet, heartfelt power ballads. He's a hella nice guy in real life, too.
This is the album that shot them into superstar status. Came out of nowhere and had just perfect timing. I had seen them open for ZZ Top on the 7800 ° Fahrenheit album, like the year before this coming out. The video just showed up on MTv and the rest was history.
Yeah, as 15 or 16 year-old when this came out, I can assure you it was a banger. Incredibly hot song for raging teen hormones. I bought the album. And I was a veteran of led zep, pink floyd, bowie....
Wow, great video, guys. I totally agree with Alex about hearing and appreciating all the tasty little flourishes we all might normally miss. That's what I appreciate about your channel - watching your videos gives me a much deeper appreciation of the songs I have already loved for years because I am listening in headphones and becoming immersed in the music, and just listening to the band members doing amazing things together. Appreciate you guys! Full disclosure - I was not a fan of this song back in the day as I thought it was too bubblegum rock for my tastes at the time, but hearing it now changes my mind. It really is a solid, well-played rock song. Like many other college kids back then, I was probably biased against a few hair bands like this one due to their constant barrage of music videos on MTV. I guess I now listen without prejudice. I also probably proved the point that REM's music video-hating guitarist Peter Buck famously made in the late 1980s when he said, "I've never seen a music video that made me like the song, but I have seen music videos that made me absolutely hate the song."
I’d like to alert everyone that the Bon Jovi Rest Stop (Exit 124) on the Garden State Parkway is closed for renovations. Should re-open later this year.
Jon Bon Jovi started the trend of "smiling rock". Until then, bands tried to look so tough and so cool. If you watch their videos, Bon Jovi is smiling the whole time. They exude pure joy. So fun to watch!

It’s just the pumping sexiness of the whole __n song. Grit of his voice. The wailing guitar. The killer bass and banging drums. That’s it!
Early Bon Jovi--a guilty pleasure, I must admit.
No guilt needed. Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, & Desmond Child are all Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees.
@@jp3813 They deserve it.
“Every woman over age 40”?!?! Oh, shots fired!!! 😂
Gotta say they’re a fun band with some really catchy, bopping tunes. Enjoyed this reaction xx
Great reaction guys!! This whole album was absolute fire! I remember when my sister brought this home, I was 8, she was 21 - we listened to it together on her stereo, then after dinner she had a date with her boyfriend - I continued listening to it on my stereo!
"runaway" before Bon Jovi was Bon Jovi... WAPP 103.5 song of summer winner 1983(?)
A fantastic song from the 80’s I remember it well I was 36 years young and having fun.
Watching you guys is a strange paradox where i get joy out of it while realizing how old i actually am. To have seen these bands come and go and remember it like yesterday. It's fun to check the reaction of the younger gen. Thanks guys!
Desmond Child wrote this with the boys and Desmond is the key to many hits in the 80s
Desmond Child, Jon Bon Jovi, & Richie Sambora have all been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
First written as a Bonnie Tyler song - "If You Were a Woman (And I was a Man)"
@@ericthuemmel5275 The melody for the chorus was, but it didn't become a hit.
yep! I'm 43 and I LOVE them. Saw them in concert in 95. "Blaze of Glory" is a really lit solo effort by Jon BonJovi for the movie Young Guns 2. Definitely worth a listen.
On the show "How I met your Mother", the character Barny made a mix cd that was "all rise"... It _started_ with this song.
The second repeat "bad name" in the chorus is guitarist, Richie Sambora. At least live it was him. They used the same formula to fine effect on the "wanted" in "Wanted Dead or Alive."
1985, Bon Jovi opened for Ratt. I never heard of them, but I could not deny the shrieking of girls screaming when Bon Jovi was performing.
Great music! And guys, another reason we ladies loved him, John was GORGEOUS!
Bon Jovi was my first ever concert. I was 9, my dad took me 😂
I would love to see you hit Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi. My Gen X mum looooved it when I was growing up.
Jon Bon Jovi was every gal's dream. Seeing him in concert, in leather pants, made us swoon! I STILL have the photo I took of him @ a 1987 concert! ❤
Dang!! I forgot how good this song is 🔥🔥🔥
This album was and still is 🔥🔥🔥. Pretty much anything Bon Jovi did was 🔥. He's the king of sweet, heartfelt power ballads.
He's a hella nice guy in real life, too.
Runaway, Keep the Faith, Have a Nice Day and Dry County ! Go for those !!!
Love this song! Blaze of Glory is also a favorite of mine! Love to your channel here in So. Cal USA 🇺🇸 ❤️❤️ Mom and I watch you guys every week!
Bob Jovi in concert was incredible and so much energy!!
This is what every garage band of the time aspired to. S-Tier for sure.
"Your very first kiss was your first kiss good bye" is a killer lyric.
GOOOOOOOOD MORNING A&A FAMILY!
☮️💟♾️
Blaze of Glory
Glad somebody mentioned it, great banger!
I’d like to alert everyone that the Bon Jovi Rest Stop (Exit 124) on the Garden State Parkway is closed for renovations. Should re-open later this year.
Yep! I'm a girl!
Yep! I am within those age definitions.
Visceral!
😸
Jon Bon Jovi started the trend of "smiling rock". Until then, bands tried to look so tough and so cool. If you watch their videos, Bon Jovi is smiling the whole time. They exude pure joy. So fun to watch!
