    It was great that Scottie was on the Dream Team because he and Michael were the most productive hooping duo together in the NBA at that time when the Bulls were dominating. Scottie is a Hall of Famer and one of the great Basketball players of his era. The fact that Scottie and Michael were on the Dream Team together elevated the Dream Team's play even more because they already knew how to play and dominate other teams together. The fact that they both decided to pick on Toni Kukoc by switching off guarding him in the Olympics only for him later to join and play for the Bulls is hilarious.

    I can't even explain how great the 90s were. Just the best decade, hands down. Everyone got along, everyone learned to laugh at each other, there was no social media, music was unreal. It was the golden age of rap and it brought the grunge movement. The Soviet Union had just collapsed. The world looked to be coming together in peace. • @bryce253
      @bryce253 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      exactly. I hope he finally got that. He kept talking over the part where that was clearly explained. It was NOT Jordan's call. It was more about the current image Isaiah set for himself. Remember, this was about showcasing the best of NBA basketball to the world. Isaiah was NOT the image they wanted to showcase. On top of that, yea it would've no doubt caused chemistry issues on the team. The Dream Team's coach clearly understood and was ok with it. He didn't protest or say he would walk if Isaiah was not on the team.
      Isaiah can still be crunchy about it all he wants but the fact of the matter is that he created the door that got slammed in his face.

      The other thing that keeps getting overlooked was that the team only needed 2 point guards and one was always going to be Magic and so it came down to Stockton or Thomas and the person who decided wasn't the players or the execs: it was Chuck Daly. Isiah's own head coach picked Stockton over him because he didn't need that headache of trying to keep MJ on the team with Isiah around coupled with Stocktons already built in chemistry with Malone. Thomas never had a shot of making that team all because he picked a beef with MJ and MJ didn't need to do a thing to keep him off.

    The only problem the redeem team would face against the dream team would be in the paint.. Ewing, Robinson, Karl Malone, Barkley. Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh and Carlos Boozer aint cutting it. and while the Redeem Team was perimeter heavy, that played right into the Dream Teams defensive strength. While Magic and Stockton werent reliable against speedy perimeter players, Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan and even Clyde Drexler, WERE. Also Magic and Stockton are numbers 2 and 1 ALL time on the steams list, respectively, so them passing lanes were NOT friendly.. plus the interior defense of the Dream Team.. Have I mentioned Jordan's offense yet? or the perimeter offense yet? it would be tough for the Redeem team because of the paint.

    Scottie was put on the team more for his defensive ability. Even that early, he was the best defending small forward in the league (ask Magic..😏). There aren't many players in history that you can call out that could effectively guard 4 or 5 different positions. Scottie is one of them. That is part what later made 72-10 Bulls arguably the best team in history. It wasn't their scoring. It was the defense. They had 4 players in the starting lineup that could lockdown guard at least 3 different positions a piece. I've watched the NBA since '81. I have never seen a team til this day as great defensively as that Bulls' team. There were times I remember where the other team would not be able to score for 5-10 mins straight. Where do you ever hear that these days unless they just couldn't hit a 3?!? People forget that many games the Bulls would come out in the 3rd quarter of games and lock down the other team so bad that they would have a 20-25-30pt lead and the starters wouldn't even play the 4th quarter.

    I think something has to be said. Isaiah Thomas was not excluded because Michael Jordan didn't like him. Isaiah Thomas was excluded because everyone involved, right to the top, was afraid that Thomas would cause trouble and embarrass the team and the nation. And I think this was a valid concern. This was about more than winning the gold.

      Also it was like they said - Isiah was seen as a sore loser with bad sportsmanship after walking off the court before the game ended, which is not a good look to represent your country in the OLYMPICS. Be a "Bad Boy" all you want, but then you have to accept the consequences of your own actions.

    • @MrKurtykurt
      @MrKurtykurt ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boballab interesting, I’ve never heard that but it sounds like a Chuck Daly thing to do I.e. create the best possible conditions to get the job he was hired to do, done. Personally, I have Chuck Daly at the top of my greatest coaches list. Not only was he able to think outside the box, he did it while simultaneously and successfully managing 2 of the most potentially combustible groups of egos with the Bad Boys and then with the Dream Team 1. I mean, as we’ve seen many times before, just throwing a bunch of talent together on one team can have unexpectedly disastrous results if not managed/coached properly. And, looking at what the Pistons did vs what (my favorite team ever) the talent rich Cavs of the late 80s/early 90s weren’t able to even being coached by the great Lenny Wilkins, unable to contain Jordan come playoff time, Chuck Daly was able to implement “The Jordan Rules” and win back-2-back championships. Of course, Phil has all the bling which is hard to argue against bc he was also terrific at managing personalities, but Phil had Mike, then Kobe who were both going to will their way into a few championships with or without Phil. Just my opinion though

    Great reaction & I hear you about Bird. Great player but growing up I was never particularly intrigued by him or his game, and I mean no disrespect when I say that. What I've notice particularly on this TH-cam platform is that there are a small but passionate (mostly white) vocal contingent of Larry Bird lovers. Some are quite delusional and often go around TH-cam making their delusional case that NO one else believes (Basketball experts, majority of past & current players, fans, general public etc.) except them that he's the GOAT. Now, although he was a great player, the reality is that his mostly white fanbase loved him not only because he was a talented player, but more importantly, he's White. In other words, if he was Black, you wouldn't see no where near the same level of passion for him exhibited by White people. He was indeed their "Great White Hope" in a ever changing league dominated by Black men -- change that some, including Bird fans, struggle to accept and in some cases resented. This was also the case in football, baseball & boxing. So, make no mistake about it, their love & passion for Larry Bird is mostly rooted in his whiteness. Anyway, this "Dream Team" doc has always been one of my favorites. Oh, and Jordan is the GOAT by the way. Great job.

      Exactly! You can't negate the time in which Bird played in...the culture was apart of racism. I was 18 , grauduated in 1972 apart of the first integration of school in 1970/71. I didn't care for Bird back then, not his ball playing but his attitude. He and Majic became friends which in all friendships, that comes first from allowing yourself to get to know the person. Majic said himself in a clip that Bird wanted no part in becoming friends and he said he was like ok, if that's the way it is, that's the way it is 😂. Now don't get me wrong Bird could shoot a 3 from around the corner. They formed a Very Good Friendship, bc they were able to put color behind them. I applaud that.

      @@joannpreston2999 Respect and I agree. So, you not only literally witness the NBA evolve but society as well, and just like many resented school integration during your era, they also resented the ever changing racial composition of the NBA -- such change made Larry Bird even more beloved by his mostly white fans. There is clearly a racial component to his support that's undeniable. Yes, Larry Bird was clearly a great player & I have a lot of respect for his career, but you can not dismiss the racial dynamics during that era & the role it played and continues to play in some people's support for him. Thank you for sharing, Joann Preston.
