  • In this lighthearted video, I discuss Arthur Schopenhauer’s approach to anti-natalism and sexual ethics. This educational video is meant to be a brief summary of the pivotal moments in Schopenhauer’s life, and how it contributed to his philosophical works.

That is a valid and important perspective, tho since a lot of men have the problems with their mother and the women are those mothers i rarely get Women discussing philosophy = "so how is the relationship with my son" as if she wont be that kind of a mother.

schopenhauer believed in pity for mankind because of how disappointing life is as a whole. so not an incel. and I don't think he would be a modern anti-natalist either because he wasn't a utilitarian.

@@hdcbpxsytahdcbpx yeah I gave a different reason for why I think he's not an antinatalist though: because I don't think he would agree with the benatar's utilitarianism, which is the argument you always hear (people are making it in these comments).
schopenhauer was very moralistic, and he did allude to trade-offs and "better-than/worse than" comparisons, but it makes sense that he was more of a kantian about ethics.

The one (and only) guaranteed way to prevent all the suffering of children is not to bring them into this world of diseases, crimes, wars, accidents, natural disasters, old age, death, and all the unknown evils the future holds. ☮
At the same time, by not coming into existence, they are not being deprived of any of the "goods" this world has to offer, because to be deprived, one must exist first. You cannot deprive someone who doesn't exist. ✨

Look life is good once the money system and prison system are no longer holding you back. Men in the past were real just like wild animals no second guessing themselves no prison system and money system weighing in their minds before they speak/act. They were busting in many holes and spreading their blood taking everything by force and predator focus that is what a man is but law the money system and prison system were built to break your will as a man and let those with the money to live life like a man naturally should.

@@lordlittletoeq8537 How do we know if someone is deprived? How do we know anything at all? By our senses, by our experiences. And its a fact that till now no non-existent has expressed their need to be born. There is no evidence that those who arent born exist in any plane of existence.
If you have the audacity to claim "You can deprive someone who doesn't exist" then prove it. I'll wait. I would love to see a non-existent crying to be born.

I think Schopenhauer viewed most people as evil. It's just he saw *almost* all men as evil but 100% of women as evil.

I was expecting something much more interesting from this.
I see the decline of the birthrate as a response to alienation and the pessimism of living in an industrial society. In gatherer hunter societies life can be very difficult yet it is considered to be worth it. Examples of text to support this idea include " Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes " by Daniel Everett, "Limited Wants, Unlimited Means: A Reader On Hunter-Gatherer Economics And The Environment," edited by John Gowdy, there are more but these two make the point.
Life that is not alienated can be worth living. I see anti-natalism as a product of the neurosis of our time. However this does not mean that I am pro-natalist. We have 8 billion people who are going to have to suffer the consequences of climate change and of civilizations partial breaks. I am advocate for a different sexual ethics
I am basing this on both the sex strike theory that anthropologist Camilla Powers and conversations I have had with other queer people. Have sex be dedicated for pleasure and connection and not for reproduction. And to spread this ethic to people. I don't suppose this will stop reproduction, just to slow it down.
I find the misogyny of Schopenhaur to be a neurosis that comes from not just because his relationship with his mother being terrible but also because the relationships of the time were terrible. Dr of psychology Darcia Narvaez affirms that in gatherer hunter societies children have many people in their lives for support meaning that even if a parent is not up for the task then there is the possibility for many others to take the place. This means extended relatives and people who are not relatives of different genders. Also going back to anthropology Dr Powers wrote of how hunters and gatherers of the Kalahari practice sex change rituals in which everyone transitions throughout the life span. This serves to create a sexual ethos in which power is never stagnant amongst one sex, and it is useful for producing gender egalitarianism.

The girl in that TH-cam video is rather funny; imagine having her entire channel based on a Hegelian view of modern phenomena, especially in the digital age. Arthur Schopenhauer was far superior to Hegel; Arthur was right in his ruthless yet honest criticism of Hegel and his stupid pseudo-philosophy. Not many logicians take Hegel seriously; Hegel is an insult to logic and truth. The girl in that video is an insult to rationality and honesty.

Getting the splodge (cytoplasmic metabolism) into the future is job number one. That's why we're amply rewarded for trying and depressed at failing. What started as a relationship between molecules able to harvest energy and reproduce has flowered into the great variety of species but even with the greater complexity the goal is the same. Our cellular metabolism formed a brain that has humans searching for facial symmetry and the ability to acquire resources. Girls wear make-up and boys try to drive cars or pump-up their muscles to exaggerate their wealth gathering abilities. Humans will be unable to maintain the intellectually conceived anti-natalist sentiment since it will extinct itself in favor of those don't think before they act.
