To this day, this part of the game is so relaxing to play and watch. The warmth, the soundtrack, the overall design esthetics, and the clever puzzles all throughout the manor aged like fine wine imo.
Yeah. I remember playing this as a small boy and getting so lost in the manor! It felt so vast and endless, it's the reason why I think I never forgot this game. Some of the quotes are so memorable too but I digress
Both Legend and Anniversary are great because of this manor part.

Fun fact: when you find an artifact/reward in croft manor (anniversary), the sound it makes are the exact same notes as the beginning of the AOD theme song, only in a lower pitch.

Yeah honestly the best just got a psp 3000 different type along with anniversary again!!!!! Beautiful port best one and PS2!!!!! Had that version as well and legend was great also had the GameCube and psp versions gunna get legend with anniversary again....happy to have anniversary for the go great tomb raider!!!!!! Just like legend!!!!!!!! Tomb raider 2 was great too for ls1!!!!! After anniversary they went downhill!!!!!!
They should've done something like the ending of Tomb Raider 2 when Lara says "don't you think you've seen enough?".

Ugh, this is just impossibly difficult. I have no idea how this guy controls her so effectively. When Lara is facing a certain direction, and you press forward, she doesn't go forward in the direction she's facing, but rather in the forward direction relative to you! Makes her extremely difficult to control. Why would they screw the control system up like this for crying out loud??
Now eventually reached the gymnasium after about 1.5 hours of play, but finding it impossibly difficult. This game only cost me 76p, but it's way too difficult. They should have just made it exactly like the original but with better graphics.
Sorry mate, but almost all new games work that way. It's Tomb Raider's old control mechanic which is the outdated one. These days, forward means forward in the direction of the camera. Once you wrap your head around it, it's actually easier and smoother because you don't have to keep track of the arbitrary direction of the character. It allows you to actually look at the environment and still control the character efficiently.
This became necessary when cameras became freely rotatable. But like I said, it's not a curse. Just like using ADSW instead of the arrow keys in doom, it requires some getting used to, but it's better once you do.
This is not meant as an insult, but I suppose you haven't played any modern games for the past....10 years? And came back to this one because of nostalgia?
I played the first 5 TR games. I've played a bit of Far cry 3, and left4dead 1 and 2. But nothing else I don't think in past 15 years or so.
I got to the 4th level, and decided I just don't like it. Now playing the original TR released in 1996.
The controls are like 100x times smoother in TRA and TRL than they are in any other TR. (not counting the female Robin Hood reboot trilogy which is meant to be cinematic and often forces the player to walk, introducing unnecessary slowdowns etc.)

@14:30 for some reason the grapling hook holes didn't turn blue meaning i was always falling to the floor i solved this by adjusting the resolution from the options

By a game, it's case-by-case. As for the TR Legend to begin next, all pickups is impossible.
I wish Lara had a sprint action in this game...
I want to play this game again so bad, but the HDMI/RCA adapter I have makes the game look pretty terrible.
Completed it! 3 hrs 4 mins something. Apparently there's supposed to be a time trial available for this level. Doesn't seem to exist so far as I can tell. If I play croft manor again it loads from a checkpoint half way through the game (where Lara enters the gym). If I restart the croft manor level, it starts from the beginning, but no countdown timer there, so looks like just the normal play-through. So how the heck do you access the time trial??
This game is very buggy incidentally. I had to create a profile otherwise the level just started from the beginning again each time I started the game. And one point I died after getting the bow, and the bow had completely disappeared from existence. I restarted the game to play the level again, but it loaded from the same point as I noted in previous paragraph (beginning of gym).
Think it might have all screwed up and I'll need to replay it yet again to get the time trial option.

While her home looks nice in this game always like it way better in legends with Alister and Zip and his office around way more since it’s always nice to have home friendship company isn’t it right guys at least Alister and Zip are very great friends and helpers out very well aren’t they right guys!

I got Problems at the Manor. She always hangs aslant on the rotating rod, and when I am at the climbing stones, she does not lean back, so that I can not jump to the opposite side. I think its a bug, how can i remove this bug.

Why is it after I get the sundial and I go down the stairs there are no artifacts displayed in the trophy cases at all , there is nothing there why's that.
If you do not finish the all levels first, artifacts does not exist.

Am I the only one who can't change her clothes at the end? The closet doesn't propose to me any clothes. I had to keep the one I was wearing. Also, the butler Winston appeared only once. And when i open the door that leads to the garden, I have like two hallways. In this video there is only one. Wtf

That sliding puzzle is next to fucking impossible. Most of the times jumping will send you into a random direction or onto that ledge. If you hit the right part you arn't far enough to hit the next slipway... and lara will want to jump towards the right even if you are. And good luck rotating the camera enough to get the right jump vector either. Good god I'm so angry I've been jumping for half an hour.

Anyone know how I can get the grappling hook to work? I have it and am in the gym but can’t use it on the hook high on up on the wall. Keeps selecting Lara’s guns but won’t let me choose grappling hook 😥
Lara's grapple can attach to certain objects in the environment. If you have Hint Icons enabled in the Options menu, you'll see a blue circle over an object that can be grappled. Press the grapple key(PC: Q key) to throw the grapple. Generally, Lara will automatically aim at the nearest viable target. Once the grapple is anchored, you can move as usual using direction keys/buttons (or left stick). Press Interact to pull on the cable. Press Grapple again to release the cable if necessary.
tartancroft thank you, I’m playing on the Wii so the control was shake the nunchuck. After using he grappling hook in the gym and climbing up the wall, I can’t seem to jump back into that sloped column to jump to the next one and grab the bar. Tried for ages and can’t find another way of getting there.

I hate Croft Manor in the Anniversary. Lara's Home is supposed to be fun and cosy, not a freakin' creepy castle.
How the heck do you jump backwards at 13m 50s??? She just keeps jumping and catching the same ledge as before. Done it about 30 times before, and very close to just jacking this game in.
No, when she starts swinging she'll only jump either to the left or right. No matter what buttons I press she won't jump backwards onto that slanted surface. It's simply flat out impossible.

Press "Left + Jump" to make her off the wall and land on top of the column. It's necessary to master the timing of pressing the button.
No, she just jumps in the same direction as her swing each and every time. It makes no difference which direction I press with the stick thing (using an xbox type controller on a PC)
You have to make her swing first using the left stick (with experimenting it seems pressing the stick up and down that makes her swing, albeit only slightly). And then you have to press the A button and the stick to the left? It seems to me to be problematic using the same stick to get her to swing and then using it to jump in a given direction. I wonder if using my keyboard will allow me to assign different controls for this . .hmm. OK, I'll give it one last shot today, before just giving up on the game.
I've finally done it! I was pressing the back directional button most of the time. It's these crazy controls.
