  • Throughout 2022, Scottish Canals is holding a series of events to mark the 200th anniversary of the Union Canal which links Edinburgh to Falkirk, and I went along for a two-day flotilla cruise to mark the occasion. This is Part 1 (of 2) of that trip. Part 2 is coming soon, once I've edited it.

When I was young I used to go to places with loud music and "Birds!"
Now I go to places with bunting and . . . birds.
If you are young, cool and have a life, you won't know what bunting is.
Then; you are out one day, and feeding the birds,
and you find yourself saying "Oooh bunting!!"
Followed by "Oh dear, I've just become old!"
I now know what bunting is.
And now, tragically, I look forward to it.
Friend, "Bruce are you coming to the town market".
    Me "Is there bunting?"

We are visiting from Virginia and while in Edinburg yesterday, we watched your video about the start of your newest journey. Today we went to the Falkirk Wheel and did the boat trip up and into the tunnel and back. The man at the ticket booth said you were there last week. I told my wife that you were on my top 10 list if people I would like to run into on our trip, right behind Margaret Thatcher. I was informed that she has already passed, so you climbed a notch on the list. We off to Crick on Saturday.

The mention of musicians playing instruments from a tree from a tree that blew down 20 years ago, is heartfelt. The compassion is very amazing of mind and spirit. In a week or so I would gladly watch this video again with joy! Three thumbs up!👍👍👍

I should be amazed at the video's you produce David but I'm not. Having watched soo many of them, I have become accustomed to their superb quality. This one in particular shares the good work that many organisations do. One comment that struck home was from a lady who pretty much said that "they like to steer the boat. Which in turn shows if they can steer a boat, then they can control their day to day life". That alone was worth making this video.

Odd. I somehow missed the existence of the Union Canal when I was wandering Edinburgh but I wasn't really in the know about canals back then (although I had just finished hiking the length of the Caledonian Canal from Loch Linnhe to Beauly Firth and entirely missed seeing Nessie along the way). Anyway, the rain should have allowed you to introduce the most popular Scots word: DREICH - - Scots, adj. Long-drawn-out, protracted, hence tedious, wearisome; damp, wet, grey weather. Although I guess if the rain cleared promptly it might not have applied. 😊
