    In order to avoid having the glue continuing to come out after you finish squeezing, you have to trip the lever, or twist the plunger, or whatever it takes to release the pressure -- depends on your particular glue gun how this is done.

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      Cheers! Ha, I do (honestly!) know this really, I just didn't press it while holding the gun and waving it at the camera so it kept coming!

      @@CruisingTheCut I figured SOMETHING like that - you've too much experience not to have discovered it. LOVE how the shower ended up -- very nice job indeed!

      Or purchase a “dripless” caulk gun which for the most part release that pressure for you.

    Why. Why are you videos so compelling? I've just spent 49 minutes watching a grown man faff around inside his shower. And loved every minute of it. :)

    It might be a bit disconcerting to an introvert like you David, but all your fans (including me) feel like they know you and like you very much. From our point of view you are our friend. Feeling that way isn’t unusual for us Internet denizens and you should be quite proud of your quite huge number of friends. We all genuinely find you nice and funny, a quite exceptional fellow. Cheers from Alberta, Canada and thanks for the videos.

    I enjoyed watching this. Your DIY project went exactly the same as most of my own, where I start off positive and am then reduced to passive aggressive mutterings coupled with exaggerated metaphors whilst doing my level best not to swear. Very funny to watch when it's someone else doing it. You've also achieved a nice looking finish. Well done.

    Paradoxically, this is one of the most memorable videos I have ever seen on TH-cam. Just an ‘ordinary’ bloke ,who’s not very good at DIY, taking on a job that nearly breaks him, but somehow prevailing. Done with self effacing honesty and humour. All of life is here. 🙏

    Hello David. I wanted to share my story with you. When Covid hit in the US early last year my husband came across your channel and he liked your video so we started to watch all the videos from the beginning. We were in lockdown. I did jigsaw puzzles and my husband drank tea while watching. We binged watched all your videos and we absolutely loved cruising the cut. Now we are re-watching it and now everytime we have it on I have this uncontrollable urge to take out my puzzles and we both drink tea while watching. It's now like a favorite series to watch. But just stop for a sec and look at the great job you did considering you’re not a carpenter, plumber, tiler, etc. None of those are your trade, but still you got stuck in and resolved your problems and the end result looks great and will last for years. We have a saying in america- Caulk and paint, make it what she ain't (Caulk is what we call sealant)
    I give you props for posting this. As someone in the trades it was thoroughly entertaining. But keep your chin up man, that 'sealant' job is better than the work some of my laborers could do! And at the end of the day, you actually accomplished something instead of letting a problem continue until the floor caved in

    David, you really have created quite a stir with this one, look how all the arm chair experts have wriggled out of the woodwork and onto the key boards. You are a great chap, with your candid approach and great British sense of humor / sarcasm. Do not be discouraged by the 'nay sayers' and the 'gloomsters' it would be easy to take some of the comments as personal attacks and become consumed by self doubt. Stick with it and sock it to em! You do a really great job, and you really do entertain. You have bravely laid your journey out for all to see and comment on, that comes with risk. But keep going, I hope you continue to enjoy the journey and don't fall out of love with this way of life you have chosen, you have taken us all with you, and it is honestly compelling viewing and we need to see where it leads... All the best David 👍 ...and don't forget, we need a 'and there's a Heron' now and again! 👌. Also any chance of some more 'techy' vids of your electrics and solar, how is the system bearing up?

      Phil, well said!!!! 👏👏👏 You've described exactly how I feel too, and without me having to scramble to find all the fancy words myself. I know ZERO about plumbing and yet, this vlog had me glued to the screen like I was reading an intense cant-be-put-down fiction book. The first thing I did the next morning was come back to this blog to read the comments!

      @@reneenel4338 Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to write them, the sentiment is appreciated. @@CruisingTheCut David, at the risk of prying, do you have a long term plan / ambition, I am curious as I imagine many of us are, where you think this journey of yours will take you and all end up, what do you see and how do you see it playing out? May be this needs a whole Vlog - spell out some options, and alternate realities?? But on a serious note, are you faced with difficult choices, or do things naturally lead one to next? Logically speaking, I imagine, like all of us, you have competing priorities and some of the decisions are based on factors that you cannot control, I'd be interested in your thoughts...
      I also appreciate, that you get very little 'personal' privacy, and this is extremely important, I imagine there is a battle of what you want to share and what you don't, authenticity dictates a 'warts and all', sanity dictates 'give me some space man!' how do you balance your approach?

    • @thomascrabtree
      @thomascrabtree 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both have their uses, metric is more useful for construction as it goes down to millimeters, whereas it's hard to visualise meters for the width of a road for example.

    Chose a bad time to watch your vlog, at 1am, However, you’ve made an amazing difference to your shower cubical, don’t want to be rude but it looked a little dated / depressing but now its neat, clean lines, with a modern feel. Had i not watched you fit it out and point out all the mistakes you’d done I’d have been none the wiser that an expert installer hadn’t done it. If i ever need a shower cubical modernising i will know who to call.
    Was a little surprised to see you cutting your boards with a knife straight on your timber floor, but I’m guessing no damage was done.
    With regard to screws holding the panels down when glueing, it did occur to me that you could have screwed and glowed, then when glue set then remove the screws ,hence not having screw heads bowling panels out. With regard to the shower holder screw hole being too deep for your pen, I’d have used a nail to mark through to the plastic wall panel.
    Final thought you did a close up under the door, where you masticated the wood, but think I’d continue o fill gap all the way along under the door because i think you can see wood grain, and this would be another place for damp to get through.
    But i score you 10 out of 10, for quality, and managing not to swear during fitting. Guess the ice cream helped to cool the stress

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cheers. You're not the first to suspect wood under the door but it isn't, it's just the shower tray (I think there's some old sealant under there). No further gunge needed!

      Well I have enjoyed EVERY SINGLE ONE of your vids and am sure u earned that “stiff gin n tonic” (yuk) as your reward for all your hard work( and a cheese sandwich, which must have some sort of condiment on it…you know…mustard, Mayo, something!!!). PLEASE!!! We need to know!!!!

    Is now a bad time to mention that you could have just cut the shower rail (metal tube) to length?

    • @CruisingTheCut
      @CruisingTheCut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's such a cheap piece of plastic, it felt really brittle like it would shatter if I tried cutting it.

    well done david! you deserve a medal for staying sane doing that project!!! 😁🎉🥇
    the end result is excellent! 😁
    may i suggest an idea, maybe run silicone under the bottom of the door frame all the way across to definitely make sure nothing leaks... ever! after your hard work it would be so annoying to find another leak!
    this was a good idea for a vid, just like watching the vandemonium channel but on water! 😁

      @CruisingTheCut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers. No need for more sealant though, I stuffed so much under the wood and behind the panel in that corner.

    A job well done I'd say. Such diy honesty is good to see. We've all been there with the little, infuriating snags. I have just replaced a shower mixer device in our caravan. I warned my wife.....this will either take 10 minutes or 10 hours. Luckily it was minutes. It doesn't work that way very often.

    It looks all right and as long as you have sorted the leak the jobs a good un, there are a couple of things you could have done to make it easier for yourself but it's to late now .

    Good to see that I'm not the only one who suffers endless frustration , when doing DIY jobs. The most impressive thing ,is that you manage to have a Shower, in such a small space in the first place ( demonstration video NOT needed ).

    Well! 10/10 for trying such a onerous task. You demean your abilities. You have the patience of Job. Your choice of wall cladding will return and 'bite your bum'! (unless, of course, you are intending to sell the boat in the near future.)
    I applaud your vlogs about the trials and tribulations of boat maintenance. They will be a most useful advice and demonstration to all that intend to carry out such work. The maintenance vlogs also add a divergence from the sameness of rural scenes.
    Your camera work and editing/rendering of the vlog is, of course, up to your usual high standard. I am taking notes from your vlogs and instructional presentations for my personal, non-vlog, endeavours.
    As an aside, I bought a Sony AX54 following your evaluation. I did, however, carry out my own deep investigations of movie cameras. (I have owned quite a number of them, but none in the last decade.
    Keep up the good work, smell the flowers and return the brickbats!
