This is a really informative video. I never knew the history went back so far! I’ve never dined there, but if I get a chance to in the future I will. I hang out around the ruins all the time cause it’s a cool scene, but I always wondered about cliff house!

COVID affected many San Francisco businesses with a huge increase in homelessness and crime, more so than other cities, and the City, as locals call it, is still slowly recovering. Still, it is one of the most beautiful and unique cities in the world. You really must visit. Although we used to live in the Bay Area, we don’t now, but have a relative there. I will check and let you know when (hopefully) the Cliff House reopens. Since we left the Bay Area in 2003, I wasn’t aware the Cliff House’s architecture had been restored by the National Park Service. Thank you for the wonderful history lesson you put together! Your documentaries are so great, I am happy to be a subscriber!
Indeed, although I have heard recently it may reopen under new ownership . We ate there fairly often while living in the Bay Area. Back in 1981-82, on one of our meals at the Cliff House, my husband thought he saw then very prominent pro baseball star Reggie Jackson, but didn’t think it could be as my husband thought Jackson played for another city’s pro team. He later found out that Jackson had joined the San Francisco Giants.
I actually saw and was in the old Sutro Baths building in 1965, and the antique mechanical museum there. I remember climbing around the ruins in 1969. I had a meal at the restaurant that was there in 2013.
I first dined at The Cliff House in 1952. The potted palms on the street side are the "Kaplanis Palms", named for the late Peter J. Kaplanis who advised the restauranteur to spruce up the visully sterile walk in approaches. They had been neighbors and school boys.
Hello India, Get job on your video. I grew up at ocean beach and used to run through Sutro Baths Museum in the 1960's. I have best collection on Rare Cliffhouse never seen Large Original pieces that Hung in the cliffhouse, and I have 20 sutro Bathing suits. I was at the fire in 1963, and on Sunday june 26th, I rode my bike up to Sutro's and watched it burn down. My Dad was a S.F.P.D. Police inspector who arrested the kid that burned down sutro's. I have the original 1862 san francisco toll road ( Geary Street) leger where in the toll road front page has Butler and Buckley signed. They built the toll road out to the Cliff in 1862 and built the first cliffhouse in 1863. Worse thing is seeing all my history growing up gone like Playland at the beach. Sad for me. Shows how short our lives are also. anyhow you did get job on video. I wish you could see my collection. Jim

Ms India, good Evening! Thank you for this video because I recall being taken to San Francisco… I was allowed to spend an entire day learning how to make a “Hologram” the year was 1985. It’s only when a very good man, recognizes “Genius” does he allow and encourage further scientific learning. So grateful for giving me a recollection to smile upon… Cliff House in San Fran… Ms India, I named the “Marital “Home…”Cliffden” made a place etc. after the Divorce…, it’s only something I did.. and I’ve grown… My mentor is in heaven, smiling down on me…Holograms in San Fran… thank you! One of the best Sunday Brunches was served at the Cliff House. Sad to see it closed.

I used to visit the Cliff House multiple times a year. It was a fascinating place, especially for a child. Great video!

Thank heaven the ghastly wood cladding was removed from that lovely building. After all the work to restore it, pity it hasn't reopened.
ADDED: next door was a working museum of nickelodeons I played using coins, but it burned down during the 1970s I think.

It used to be beautiful. It’s ugly now.
