How to Replace Mercury 15hp Water pump Impeller

Swapping out a water pump impeller on a Mercury 15hp tiller. This job should take around .5 - 1.5 hours depending on how the bolts come out.

Did u start with engine in forward gear …?

Hi quick question, after replacing the water pump on my mercury 6hp engine I was checking the forward, reverse and neutral gear i noticed that in neutral would spin both ways and forward would spin freely to the right but reverse it won't spin freely in any direction unless applying force is this normal? Thanks in advance

did you find the issue? if you moved the rod threaded into lower end for shifter it will happen. if you do not have hand control shifter in forward and spin the propeller so it is in forward motion it can happen, there can be otehr causes but not many places on net to fing them , kinda shocked me as it is common

This is the same problem I’m having . And can’t get get shift linkeage correct with tiller handle now ….. should prop spin freely to the right in forward and not freely in either direction in reverse ? Also what is the fix for this is it having the the shift linkeage correctly adjusted ….? I heard 16.5 “ from end of shift linkage base (lower unit has to be removed to measure) to the pin hole is the length it should be adjusted to ….? Thanks
