What a treat, what an absolute aural treat. Riverside is a masterclass in musical colour and the sound engineering combined on this album is. WOW! Thank you Riverside, thank you Jim!
Thank you so much Jim for this album. Can’t remember how many times I’ve said that I must sit down and give Riverside a listen but alas never had. Since you posted part 1 I’ve not stop listening to it!! Managed to find a copy on vinyl which is on its way from Austria to Australia ha! Masterful! 👊❤️🎶 thanks again for giving me the push.😊
Another hidden jewel is the band Antimatter (fronted by Mick Moss) from Liverpool, UK. Mick has a fantastic and characteristic voice, and the music is just sooo good. Mick is a multi-instrumentalist in the same way as Mariuz Duda. I hope you can have a listen on this soon, Jim 🙂 I can recommend the album "Black Market Enlightenment" from 2018 to start with. But all of the albums are great.
This is the Riverside I love ! Been so disappointed with the last couple of albums but this one is just top notch ! Gave me feelings I haven't felt since "Shrine Of New Generation Slaves" and "Love Fear & The Time Machine". The boys are back with an incredible solid record and it defenetly worth buying the vinyl copy. And Jim, it's just three days left before the new Haken's album comes out as well ! I can't wait to see your full vinyl listening because it also seems to be a really promising record.😎
First song: lovely sound scapes. Right up my alley. Now you name the sound scapes too 😜. Oh I love ❤️ this song. Please make this go on for at least an hour. Second song: totally different but good. They should do more of these instrumental pieces. All in all it’s a very great album. I don’t like every song (2) but I do like the rest very very much. I’m going to buy it now.
Side 4 is only available for the extended release for Download which cost $7 US dollars more which was 70% of the entire album. Doesn't make much sense to me, but whatever. I use streaming service while in the car or when I'm not able to play the hard copy.
I really like this album. I had my moments when hearing the singles ( l enjoyed them, but wondered where they were going), but now , having heard the album in full , each song in context, I rate this album highly. For me , I put it above Wasteland ( that one was a slow grower for me on the whole, and the album I return to the least) and Escalator Shrine ( great album, but not as even throughout as ID.Entity for me). For me it's on par with LFATTM ( I really do love that album). Standout tracks for me : "Friend Or Foe ? " , " The Place Where I Belong" , " I'm Done With You" (I loved it first listen) , and "Self Aware" ( the album version is just so much more than the single) . I don't find any of the tracks to be filler , and the bonus tracks fit well in the Riverside library . "Age Of Anger" could easily be from "Eye Of The Soundscape" and "Together Again " could easily have been on "Memories In My Head". I'm disappointed that I won't be able to see them this tour (450km one way to Seattle), and on a work night. Maybe next tour¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . That's one thing you definitely have in your favor in the UK. Everything is compact 😉. Nice reaction as usual. You took the words out of my mouth.
@@JimNewstead Will have to be next month. Already spent my music budget on Steve Hackett's Genesis revisited cd/dvds. All imports. I bought 3. Awesome shows!😎
@@JimNewstead I didn't get one either. It seems the people who only bought CD's got it as a double CD. Maybe they didn't want to throw two in there? I wouldn't have minded a single CD with no bonus tracks at least.
Second listen through now and I just can't connect with much of it. Maybe it'll hit home later after giving it a break for a bit. Wasteland was better IMHO. Glad others are enjoying it because Riverside deserve the love.
hey, jim. you've been calling this album ayedee-entity, but that makes no sense at all. it's id-entity as in the subconscious right-brain part of you, which Freud famously named the ID. as evidence of the rightness of this interpretation i would point out the song called self-awareness. now self-awareness requires some knowledge of the hidden parts of us. the hidden element or entity which is as important as the ego in making us who we are. yes? ~ : )
Are we sure that's the interpretation? I thought it was Mariusz appropriating programmer speak, (Entity can be used as a synonym for a data object/class, and I.D. is it's unique identifier).
@@johnagnez8832 as further evidence for my interpretation i would like to direct your attention to the album artwork where we see the fractured nature of human being. here the area of the brain is highlighted in orange. but the interesting thing here is that there is some differentiation between the left and right sides, which shows some awareness of the tri-partite structure of the human brain. the top section of the brain has two equal haves where the left holds our normal everyday ego-awareness. but it is our hidden right-brain awareness that provides meaning and purpose, and also allows us to appreciate music. your interpretation is interesting, but no ~ ;p
@@tedmallar4049 Marcin is correct, it is intentionally ambiguous, and Mariusz has said it has multiple meanings. But in all the interviews I have seen with him, he calls the album ID Entity (aye-dee entity).
Hey Jim, these tracks remind me of the new music on a little known Riverside album called Eye of the Soundscape. I can't listen to it all the way through 2 disks but its very atmospheric with little to no vocals. It was recorded after Love, Fear & The Time Machine, before Peter passed. Contains some reworked earlier tunes but mostly "soundscape" type meanderings.
"In an ideal world... a world which is right and proper, this would do amazingly well. But we know that is not the world we live in."
Well said, Jim.
Brilliant band! Mariusz is so talented. As for me, he is absolutely best musician in our century.
I agree. Mariusz is so talented. The best Polish composer ever 💗
What a treat, what an absolute aural treat.

Age of Anger is a masterpiece. In my opinion it should have been the centerpiece of the album but I can make a playlist to do that.
The CD box set had a bonus CD with 4 tracks. These two plus single edits of Friend or Foe? And Self-Aware (Single Edit)
First song: lovely sound scapes. Right up my alley. Now you name the sound scapes too 😜. Oh I love ❤️ this song. Please make this go on for at least an hour.

They should do more of these instrumental pieces.
All in all it’s a very great album. I don’t like every song (2) but I do like the rest very very much.

Excellent! Tell Riverside I sent you :)
I think the album cover is the combination of all previous album covers.

From the first listen I believed Age of Anger should have been included in the core track list for the album. It is incredible.
Yeah, you’re not the only person to say that!
No surprise the instrumentsl tracks appeal to me very much! Seems i have to buy this album....
You should!

Thanks buddy! It’s an absolute belter of a record. One of the best things I’ve heard in ages!
keyboard on second track reminds me Eloy.
I've yet to delve properly into Eloy....
This instrumental side reminds me of post-rock bands like Mogwai.
cosmic pleasure no need LSD
Hey Jim! Thanks for the reaction. I give it a B or B+. Will I buy it? Jury is still out. Later my friend. 😎
You should buy it Jeff!

Both is correct, the title is intentionally ambigous.
