I appreciate that you didn't write off sister who. My mother was a close friend of his, and I grew up with them helping my mother whenever she needed it. (My dad was never around.) Helping us move alot, clean the house and so on. They are just as wholesome and a nice a person as you described.

I had nightmares from a public access version of hooked on phonics. It was all puppets and you would randomly see a person or arm and then it would abruptly cut to the same scene with the person missing. As a child I assumed the puppets were making the humans disappear.

Being old as dirt, I remember a public access show in my area that was basically a podcast about comics. Nothing very noteworthy, but one time the hosts did break into an outright fist fight over Superman, so that was fun
Sister Who is probably one of the most wholesome public broadcast personalities i have seen. Appearances aside, he seems to genuinely care for people and really does an amazing job showing compassion, and how everyone can be of value to society despite their differences. These days it's attention whoring for views and just pure cringe that gets shown.

Sister Who Does She Think She Is 😂omg best drag name I’ve ever heard
I will never forget the weird public access tv show my grandma once found for me as a kid. They had cheap costumes and would always have a obvious moral, but they were in front of a green screen and not a set. I vaguely remember one where two were nightmarishly dressed up as donuts and poorly green screened it. Then there was one called something like “the ant blogger” where they were all dressed up as ants and a character was spreading gossip online and the queen randomly showed up and started a roumor about her in front of her. I think it ended with the queen telling him it was wrong and he apologized, this happened in one minute. This haunts my nightmares to this day.
Just joined the funkyfrogfandom and this is exactly the type of content I did it for. I am delighted, disturbed, and mystified. Good shit.

As someone from the middle east who grew up completely sheltered from western (american) early 2000s tv culture and is only familiar with the current internet culture I can't tell you how much I LOVE this video this is the most entertaining thing I've seen in a while I genuinely had no idea this type of shows existed and your humor makes this a hundred times better

As someone who was a baby in the early 2000s, I also had absolutely no idea this kind of thing existed. I'm actually so disappointed there is very little record of these types of shows, because I think this is so interesting. How did any of this come to be? Did someone buy up a bunch of times slots and hand them out to people?? This is so freakin' neat!
@Emu19 I was born in the late 80s and most of public access was a snooze fest. I had no idea great shows like this existed because you wouldn't really be able to see shows outside of your state.
As a child of the 80s, I can confirm that public access TV was usually crazy boring. Every now and then, though, someone came up with something crazy amazing.
I am a child of the eighties and i really appreciate you highlighting all of these amazing gems, i also lived in Missoula Montana in the 2000’s and there was a gutter punk who would preach the word of god…he would play obscure punk music and try and convert people…good times
Mystery Science Theater 3000 was once public access. Used to be a low budget show from Minnesota just about watching the low budget films you could get for local broadcast. When Comedy Central showed an interest, being hard up for content, Joel Hodgeson discovered the commentary aspect of the show was its most marketable aspect, so doubled down on it when going national.

My friends and I would try to stay awake long enough to watch it during sleepovers, by the time it came on we were slightly sleep deprived which made it that much funnier. I remember it becoming popular during my high school days. It just kind of grew organically, like someone’s college age sibling discovered it one night and then showed their younger sibling and they told kids about it at the lunch table. Fun times!

I really appreciate you giving some of these a chance and appreciating them as the cool art they are (when theyre not made by criminals). A lot of people take the easy route of going "omg so scary/cringe point and laugh everyone" and its so frustrating. im mega autistic about animatronics and i hate what Certain Franchises have done to them now any time I show someone an animatronic i like I get the "ahhh its so scary" response and it hurts my feelings because i like these guys i wanted u to see them because i think they are cool and charming and ur being mean for no reason.

I'm sorry that happens. It can hurt when you're excited about something and want to show people in hopes they can get some joy from it also and they just say "ew" or something rude. I hope you find your people who can appreciate the things you love. They don't have to even like them, they can still appreciate them because they bring you joy though.

OH MY GOD, THE SISTERS OF PERPETUAL INDULGENCE!? MY MUM IS A MEMBER! She actually did an art exhibition recently talking about the history of the organisation! I’m involved as a junior member of the Knights Indulgar, basically PAs and bodyguards of the Sisters when they do public events, and the rest of my mum’s Drag House came to see the exhibition. It was really fun!

I was born in 2003 and wasn’t really allowed to watch TV until I was around 8 so I don’t have any memories of public access TV, but this stuff seems very analog horror like and I bet analog horror was partially based off of public access TV alongside found footage.

This is the first time I've ever heard of Public Access TV (I'm from Spain, so maybe that's why). And boy believe me that I'm invested in this so much.

Public Access TV was a go to when I was younger. There was some insane stuff there late at night. I was in Seattle and one program if you could call it that, was a woman naked covered in psychedelic body paint and sort of babbling about nothing. Another was a group of guys drunk/stoned who would cook the weirdest foods at home after clubbing.

I was born in 2010. My mother tried to get little 2 year old me to watch Teletubbies. She described my face as a mixture of confusion and disgust. Yeah, apparently I didn't like the show😆
I remember watching a lot of it when I was 4-5 years old when it was on TV in the late 90s-early 2000s. It's insane to me how nobody said it was even a little weird, my mom and grandma would see it as colorful child entertainment fuckery and so did everyone's parents because everyone my age knew the little jingle at the beginning. We didn't joyfully sing it or anything, we would meme tf out of it even that young. But my family was right, it was some colorful child entertainment fuckery most kids watched because everything colorful that moves and looks anthropomorphic holds your attention at that age.
I was also born in early 2010 and never got to watch Teletubbies, I did have this drug trip of a show called “Bo on the Go” it might be on Netflix but idk
I'm older than you and remember Teletubbies from its inception, it replaced Playdays which was this great show where every day of the week had a different theme and different characters who taught you a different subject, my favourite was the tent on Fridays which was drama and stories but I also really liked Thursdays where a rag doll and bunny taught you about nature. Then one day we turned on the tv and Teletubbies was on instead, we saw all these weird babbling creatures and were confused and a bit unnerved TBH!

I just wanted to say that your coverage of these videos was professionally amazing! I've seen some older clips of public access TV from like the 60's/70's, but wasn't aware such a thing was still a thing in the early 2000's! That's actually kinda cool to know that! Also, I love your style of narration/commentary, as it sounds EXACTLY like how a news reporter sounds, especially at your tonal way of talking during your closing comments of the goth public access, discussing the dormant YT channel. Not sure if your way of speaking was intentionally to sound like that or not, but I thought it was very professional sounding, and I loved it! Also also, that Sister Who show sounds like it was REALLY ahead of its time, for its time, and I actually wanna check it out now, so thank you for including a link for it! There was an episode of Ricki Lake I remember watching in the late 90s doing an expose into weird public access and bringing some of them in for an interview. I would love to find that episode again but most talk shows dont archive their episodes like that. The highlight of the episode was an a capella trio who was looking for some free publicity.
