  • I'm searching for a new second motorcycle and taking to the road to ride and review a number of new bike options, Today it's a 2018 Triumph Thruxton R review. Thanks to Triumph motorcycles in Stratford for letting me test ride this Thruxton R. For the past 3 years I've been riding my Harley Davidson Sportster 48, so moving to a classic cafe racer sportsbike is a big change in riding style - so my review will quite often compare the Thruxton to the riding style of my Sportster!
    I hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think of the Thruxton!

    I got air cooled Bonnie t100 and I'm thinking of getting 48 as a second. I test rode one recently n it reminded me of my old royal enfield. Very similar raw riding experience.
    If you not too concerned about power also try the aircooled thruxton. I love the engine in air cooled bike than new water cooled specially when it's tuned properly.

    I have a 2007 heritage softail and a 2006 Gsxr 1000. I’m saving up for a thruxton r or bobber. Both Triumph bikes are worthy. I’d have em both if I could.

    • @ridingdigital
      @ridingdigital  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree they're both great bikes, for me the thruxton was a clear winner as a second bike I think because the bobber was too similar to my sportster but without as much character (granted it was stock). But was still a great ride!

    I have had 2 bikes for years now, A cruiser and a sports or sports tourer, I have a 2003 high mileage....100,000kms Kawasaki bagger and a 2013 zx14r as my fast bike. I like the Thruxton and the Speedmaster. I may go down to just one bike and I want a smaller bike without losing too much performance as I have had a 200hp bike for 13 years now. The Speedmaster is 100kg lighter than my 1500cc cruiser, with the same power . The Thruxton is a practical sports bike? I just like it basically. My zx14r has full fairing, so it keeps me warm and dry . my cruiser has hard bags so its very useful. I am test riding soon. My heart says Thruxton. Then i will have 2 sports bike , one with massive acceleration and one with impressive grunt. If i just update my cruiser then i would not compare the 2.

      sounds like you've got it sorted! I think a cruiser/sportsbike combo gives you some good variation. I would defo say the thruxton is a sportsbike, in the right hands it would give any modern day purebred a run for its money

    Great video.
    Which one would you think is better as a daily commuter?

    • @ridingdigital
      @ridingdigital  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks 👍🏻 depends on your commute, city/countryside, distance, weather etc. For me the bobber is the most comfortable and easy to ride, better for longer rides, motorways etc. Personally I'd rather have the Thruxton unless it's tons of motorway miles, just put a bigger smile on my face!

      Cool, thanx for the reply.
      Mostly commuting thru city daily, is the thruxy ok for stop start riding, is the throttle as bit twitchy or twin a bit lumpy on take off?
      They are both cool looking bikes, plus the thruxy can take a pillion

    • @ridingdigital
      @ridingdigital  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thruxton was a little twitchy, I'd say the Bobber would be easier and more comfortable to ride in town, but you've got to weight that up against looks, performance etc and how important that is to you. But dont just take my word for it, get down to your triumph dealer and have a test ride, see what you think 👍🏻

      @@squidlips5368 I have a 2016 Thruxton R and a 2017 T120. Both bikes have twitchy throttles when new but as you put some miles on them it becomes smoother. Someone told me that the bikes are like that new to meet the emissions but its obviously designed to mellow out over time.

    I like The Thruxton R. But has it enough power? I ride a 200 hp zx14r and am spoilt by the acceleration. I want another bike but cannot make up my mind. I'm after grunt. Not top speed. As for country roads...try doing 120 mph on the surfaces where I live in southern West Australia

    • @ridingdigital
      @ridingdigital  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tbh it's just not comparable to a zx14r, at the end of the day the thruxton is a 1200 twin so it's never going to compete there. But its quick and pulls hard for what it is. Best bet is to test ride one and decide if it hits the mark, but imho it's a great all rounder

      Im in melbourne with a 2016 thruxton R with vance and hines. Its by no means a powerhouse in modern day bike standards, BUT..... it has serious character and is a soul stirring machine. Ive had alot of bikes and nothing has been more enjoyable between 0 to the 100kmh speed range. It feels like a one off made machine hand tuned by an english race track enthusiast. It certainly has its short falls, bit heavy, doesnt handle as well on bumpy corners as a single mono shock rear bike, but it makes up for it in so many other ways. Not to mention it pulls attention everywhere u go including the petrol station. Ride one stock and youll go yeah nice bike feels unique could make a good second bike, ride one with vance and hines and itll blow you away, i never thought a parallel twin could sound so good.

    My son had a 48 good looking bike zoomed pretty good rode like crap. Own a thruxton by far a superior bike in all aspects handling ride quality fuel range ease of service. You will be calling the 48 your second.
