The rear fender is plastic instead of steel to save weight. It's not a matter of being cheap. The thruxton is the sport model in the range. It gets all the weight saving measures. Enjoy the bike it's awesome

Acrylic, lacquer or safetyCoat or powdercoat the engine sidecovers. As of 2018 Triumph still has not sealed the polished aluminum of the covers and they tend to pit and oxidize heavily if you dont wash them very frequently.

I have painted them- I was super let down to see pitting only after a little bit. Crazy!

Paul Harrison that p****d me off a bit having bought my R at the full price a short while before the promotion. Still love the bike to bits though. It’s awesome.

Being matt black doesn't help the looks of the rear fender. I used an airhawk on my seat until I got a Corbin seat. Mine will be two years old in a few months everything is great except the comfort of the seat after 150 miles.

Can I drive this awesome bike with a passenger? Thank you for sharing.

Yes, but you need a different seat and rear pegs. I did a few times, it was good but not what the bike is made for.

I ride for about 2 as well. If you are smaller you could squeeze out maybe 3. It's fun, but not the most comfortable.

@@alfonsomarquez3998 yeah I understand. They're pretty but not the most comfortable on long rides.

Not really designed for comfort, if you want comfortable buy a touring bike, they have the cafe racer vibe, that means spirited riding over short distances, cafe to cafe, I have owned mine for 3 years, love it, it’s mainly the looks but the engine is really nice and torquey, sounds great, my only criticism is it’s not the sharpest turner, it’s fine but has a little understeer if you really push on, all in all a very good machine I’d recommend to anyone, if you want to go crazy fast get an R1 or Fireblade, if you want to go swiftly and fall in love every time you open the garage door buy a Thruxton 1200 👍

Fake carbs and “air cooled look” is a total turn off. It’s trying to look like something it’s not. Reminds me of cars that vent the exhaust note into the cabin to remind you how good your car sounds. Pretty lame

Jean Romero I went straight from the beginner class to a Thruxton. It was fine. I’m also mostly muscle at 160 pounds, 5f 8in

My first bike was a Honda Gold Wing.
But I grew up with 3 brothers who had bikes that I use to steal from time to time. LoL
Small bike for beginner is best.

"Rice rockets" comment at 2:00 was in no way demeaning. OP was talking about the power delivery of the Thruxton vs Japanese bikes. He's right-those bikes need to be revved up. No clue how you came to your conclusion.
