    • @LoanwordEggcorn

      The main reason why is the downhill slope of the runway. Can also make landings very short in the uphill direction, if needed.

      How is the fuel ignited then? Pardon my ignorance.

    • @js250
      @js250 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Michael, that video is very limited in explaining the workings, and does not even explain that the burning of fuel vastly increase the volume of the exit gas compared to the volume of in going air, thereby creating the thrust. Also to get the fuel to burn it must first be ignited and a turbine engine does indeed use igniters (or spark plugs) as Tevin said. It is not used to sustain burning but sure is needed to start the process.

    • @2R0bin0
      @2R0bin0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Suck squeeze bang blow. The PC-12 uses a turboprop and as any other turbine engine ignites the fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber with igniters. Turbine engines even have multiple igniters which are used during the critical flight phases (take-off, landing, or even during abnormal situations e.g. severe turbulence) to prevent a flame-out. During cruise igniters often aren't used

      This a/c can fly non stop from Montreal to Miami at roughly 400 kts. The next closest competitor in a jet a/c has to refuel in CLT or RDU and is still over 30 minutes behind the PC-12. Same altitude as well. Let"s see...uses less fuel, flies just as high , seats as many ppl and gets there with time to spare. I"d buy the Pilatus.

    Wow great video sir. Love the sound of that turbine starting up. The PC12 is the plane I would have liked to have gotten next head my situation been different. But I'm glad to see you flying this one it's a beautiful ship and it does everything well . It's fast and way cheaper to operate than a jet. Safe travels ! ☺
