      How is the fuel ignited then? Pardon my ignorance.

    • @js250
      @js250 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Michael, that video is very limited in explaining the workings, and does not even explain that the burning of fuel vastly increase the volume of the exit gas compared to the volume of in going air, thereby creating the thrust. Also to get the fuel to burn it must first be ignited and a turbine engine does indeed use igniters (or spark plugs) as Tevin said. It is not used to sustain burning but sure is needed to start the process.

    • @2R0bin0
      @2R0bin0 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Suck squeeze bang blow. The PC-12 uses a turboprop and as any other turbine engine ignites the fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber with igniters. Turbine engines even have multiple igniters which are used during the critical flight phases (take-off, landing, or even during abnormal situations e.g. severe turbulence) to prevent a flame-out. During cruise igniters often aren't used

Same altitude as well. Let"s see...uses less fuel, flies just as high , seats as many ppl and gets there with time to spare. I"d buy the Pilatus.

      A jet engine mounted backwards with a variable pitch propeller in front makes for braking easier by making the props reverse their angles of attack and spin the engine up to thrust air in front of the plane. It’s been around for many decades.

    I can see why they're getting so popular here in Colorado. They're great for our thin-air, low-lift takeoffs! Leadville (LXV) sits at 9.927 feet for example. You really need that extra performance to clear those mountains!
