hell yes. These bush planes are amazing. You have some headwind with a 30mph stall. They can set down like a chopper. I wish i had one. Looks like a lot of fun.

Used to be a guy in Stoystown PA had a gas station on Route 30 his friend used to land a biplane on Route 30 and Parked at the garage. They took a picture I seen it in his station now it's an amblance bulding.
Super impressed! I’ve landed a Blackhawk in some pretty austere looking places, but even a Blackhawk has limitations. Never done too much fixed wing tail dragging, but that looks fun!

Man you make those pilots look like they are asleep at the wheel. I watch the others clipps at the fly-in events. You will see the others landing and doing it very well. Landing upslope and taking off downslope helps to shorten landing and take off runs. That said, this is pretty wild stuff and a testament to the pilot and the STOL technology we have today. You can have this crazy capability or you can have speed.
That plane seems to have a stall speed of less than 30km/h. How is it possible to stay airborne at such a slow speed? This is incredible, and FAR beyond what I thought was possible in an airplane. I envy this man's skill, and I want his life.
***** The Rotax is a 100 hp engine…not all that much. The secret seems to be what is on the leading edge of the wing…slats…they add drag and decrease the speed need to stay up (they decrease the stall speed). These are also Sport class planes with a max weight (full) of 1320 pounds. The guys who design these STOL machines go back a ways but Troy (forgot his last name, of Just Airplanes) has really done some thing exceptional with the Super STOL. I want one.
Sure it is powerful and light, but I bet it cant go vertical, I think there are, if, then not many propeller planes which can do that. Maybe some purpose built ones..

I don't think so. This is pilot skill combined with an airplane MADE for this activity. I see Steve as operating well within the envelope of safety. Do not try this with a Cessna though.

Landing has always been my favorite part of flying. How cool is that, though! You just see a clearing out in the middle of nowhere, even if it's on the side of a mountain, and just put 'er down! I'll take that any day.
I think this is in the Owyhee mountains (or canyonlands) in Oregon near the Idaho border. At @0:44 and @1:58 you can see what I believe is Three Fingers Rock. I could be totally wrong though lol.

Just so you Americans don't get a big head about this, it was Canadian bush pilots who invented the idea of installing balloon tires on bush aircraft. Started in the Eastern Arctic by a legendary pilot named Weldy Phipps. Good for landing on tundra, dry muskeg and snow covered frozen lakes.
Reminds me of a flight I made at a gliding airfield in Dartmouth in England! On the approach the instructor said "just treat it like a fly landing on a wall"! I can only say that it was a brown trousers landing!!

xkguy my mistake …the 912 turbo is 120hp…big for a Sport class but still tiny compared to say you Honda.

Not quite -- the trick is to land uphill and take off downhill, so that gravity does part of the work for you.
