    • @louisoddie4667
      @louisoddie4667 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@steve3904 he’s got a great book you should read called “Set the Boy Free”. He talks about this in the book and how he had set up this 40/40/10/10 % split agreed upon but not put into contract, so then when shit hit the fan he didn’t have a contract to fall back on, just verbal agreement and his word against theirs. It was effectively johnny’s band as well if you read the book, he gets shafted in a way. He wrote instrumentals, did the mixing and stuff, and then got kicked out of his own band.

    This is one of the many reasons why I love The Smiths.
    Johnny Marr is the ultimate cool guitarist - nothing fake about him whateoever. Big contrast to the sensitive, geeky, shy guy that Morrissey is. These are the completely different qualities they possess and together they form the greatest band since The Beatles. Amazing, love them.

  • @andrewc2491
    @andrewc2491 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    @ PC Disciple: that's because Johnny Marr is, in point of fact, a BadAss indeed. I met him after one of his gigs at the Troubadour in West Hollywood back in 2003. Shook his hand, total respect, asked him when he finds it best in any given day to write and he told me he likes to get up at 5 a.m. and get right with himself and the universe, he said it's when he feels his best to write songs, etc. I totally get it. He has been my guitar hero since 1984 when I first ever put the Smiths' "Hatful Of Hollow" on my turntable (yes, records back then). I was hooked immediately, as would be anyone with an ear for intelligent, cleverly-crafted songs might be. Took a photo of me and him, got the requisite autographs throughout my Smiths record sleeves, and off I went. Dude is the last of a dying breed. After the Gods made Johnny, they cracked the mold. I challenge anyone to name another guitarist who can rival his virtuosity who has ever come along the pop-rock-alt scene since him. I mean #really. Who? Nuff said. Drop the mic. I'm OUT.
