    I totally agree that Biotone Starter is great. 5 years ago I transplanted over 300 plants from one garden to another 60 miles away. I used Biotone starter for all of them including tree peonies which, I understand, can be difficult to move once established. I had about a 99% success rate for all my plants. I use it everytime I plant anything now.

    Thanks Laura! What I like most about Espoma products is that they has always been "organic" and didn't just jump on the bandwagon when "organic" became popular. From their website- "Since 1929, four generations of family ownership have guided our mission: Develop the finest organic gardening products that work in harmony with nature, grow beautiful gardens, and make a greener world for the future." Nice!

    Wish I had known the science behind this ages ago. Not planting one more thing until i get some. Just ordered Rose Tone from amazon for my sister's hydrangea. It's a nice bush but gets like one bloom so going to try it on that and on my drift roses. I loved the science, it's so good to understand the why. You are not just a pretty face, lol. But i knew that already.

    Now I know why I have been adding starter fertiliser to my bonsia when root pruning into a much smaller bonsia pot, they seem to acclimate sooner and are less shocked by such rude handling. Also since watching Garden Answer I've been fertilizing on a more consistent basis and using organic ingredients, my plants and petunias are gorgeous. Thanks for the information, I feel so much smarter this morning, coffee and Garden Answer what a wonderful way to start the day!

    • @clothes_i_sew
      @clothes_i_sew 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jemheart1639 I used to work at Honeysuckle Garden in Mosman. Seamungus is also good but it is pelleted where seaweed solution is liquid which means the plant takes it up faster. Seamungus is a really good winter fertilizer. You can also use GOGO Juice which is a probiotic for your soil. It is made by Neutrog who also makes Seamungus.

    Hi Laura and Aaron I struggle to get this in England at a reasonable price, so it is great when you explain what makes you like the products you recommend. I have been trying to find Espoma products here in Canada, I'm in a Zone 5 also, but unfortunately I cannot find the Bio Tone Fertilizer, even our Walmarts don't carry them which is extremely frustrating !!! I don't suppose you could put in a small word for us up here in Canada to Espoma asking them why they don't distribute next door :) :)That would be awsome !!! Your information on what to look for in fertilizers is a great help, so at least I can find something similar, but there's nothing as close to the quality that Espoma has. Thanks again Laura, you are a Horticultural course all in one !!! :) :)

    In Wisconsin, we can get Milorganite which is sludge from Milwaukee. It's not to feed plants and would not use it on veg. gardens but it makes a dandy scent fence around the garden perimeter to discourage deer and other critters. Doesn't last long but protects the young plants until they get enough leaves to support life if a few go missing.

    • @chrisallen5373
      @chrisallen5373 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Milorganite is also one of the best lawn fertilizers on the market. Its an amazing product. It's organic and you can't burn your lawn using it. I love Laura's videos but sometimes she'll mention something that I just don't agree with and this is one of those times.

    • @laurieanne9712
      @laurieanne9712 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisallen5373 Um, actually if you research Milorganite it can contain factory waste, too, like heavy metals, as well as sewage sludge which contains all the pharmaceuticals people take--the excrements are "organic" so that is how they get away with it. This is not food standard organic.

    • @chrisw6251
      @chrisw6251 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been using this stuff for years on my lawn.. great cheap fertilizer. It contains iron which greens up the lawn brilliantly. With the EPA restrictions (ban) on phosphorus in lawn fertilizers Milorganite is about the only one left that hasn't been stripped, since they can't reformulate SLUDGE. It is now marketed in my area as a starter fertilizer. Great stuff but I would NOT put it on my veg!
