Near the end Laura wants to show us the topiaries and apologizes because she’s showing us one more thing! 😂 Does she even know us? We are all dying for the camera to pan all over the greenhouse, and have a peek at the projects that we have watched her do! So excited for the new gardening season!

Greetings, Laura, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 🧅🇺🇸 We look for Vidalia onions at the grocery store because they are so mild. But I do grow Walla Walla onions 🌰 We are enjoying a beautiful day ahead 🌞 80° Happy Gardening Everyone 👩🌾👍
OK, onion planting time. I will do it this weekend. But I planted shallot bulbs in the ground in the fall around the time I planted my garlic, the variety I grow will form multiple bulbs around the bulb i planted, and when ready to harvest, they literally push themselves out of the ground. I love Shallots. I have learned so much from you on growing my own food, and I'm not a beginner. Thank you!
So excited seed starting season is here! You're weather is about two weeks ahead of mine. I'm trying so hard this year to not start everything too early especially the veges. But I'm ready to go!
Lol I’m the same. I keep jumping the gun because Laura is showing it so I think I should do it and she and I aren’t in the same zones and don’t have the same infrastructure 😂
I grew Walla Walla onions last year. I was giving some away. This year I am going to dehydrate some and freeze some. I don’t have any place to store them except my fridge
I grew Walla Walla onions for the first time last year because of you Laura and they are now one of my favourite varieties! I have always preferred red onions so that says something about how good Walla Walla's are
“Nature is amazing and that’s why we garden” - Laura I learned so much about onions today 🧅!! That’s what’s so great about GA - learning things we never imagined. I’ve recently moved and my patio faces north, so no direct sunlight 😔 Gonna miss not planting veggies this year. Enjoy your day GA community! 🌞
I have been growing shallots from seed for several years now. Johnny's has great selection of different varieties. So far Matador and Conservador have stored the longest for me. I store them in the basement and last summer I ate the last one from the year before on the same day I harvested my first batch of new season!
Beautiful content as usual! Blessings from 7a, NE Georgia! First year doing raised beds this year and I am itching with getting food production. Just purchased 2 apple trees, a pear tree, apricot tree and a few more edibles 😁😁
@@cynthiarafferty7662 Ambitious for sure! While I love the beauty of my gardens I'd like to see more purpose/function. With the trend of life and littles our family has always thought about self reliance, so more food production is the goals for 2023 garden and on.
Hi Laura’s, I ordered some of the geraniums from swallow tail nursery, the maverick scarlet. They have all germinated in 5 days and are standing up about an inch with 2 leaves. Thanks for the tip, I am anxious to have them in the spring. We are in Michigan, so it is nice to see a little life growing. I really enjoy your videos.
I'm so excited to see how the shallots turn out for you. I grew onions from seed for the very first time last year (inspired by you) and they turned out great. Now I want to try shallots. But will use up the onion seeds I have first.
Amazing video Laura!! I’m so fascinated to see your growth and your amazing garden! I absolutely love what you do!! Your amazing Laura!! You have inspired a lot of people including me and I’m only 16!And I’ve being gardening since I saw your planting bulbs in December video!! You’re right! The ball has started rolling. I’m in SW Ontario and just spotted our daffodils coming up from the ground yesterday. Today we are getting hit with lots of rain and it’s 11C which is crazy high for this time of year.
Do try the red onions in cooking, especially raw foods like salads both leaf and cabbage salads. I've seen chopped onions rinsed in cooking shows, to cut the flavor. I JUST PAID 2$ PER 1 single RED ONION AT SAFEWAY. I'm growing onions this garden year!.
I got some shallot sets from Andrews two years ago and plant them at the same time as my garlic. Haven’t tried the seed but I guess that’s a new thing to try. Shallots are a great cross between onion and garlic in cooking.
Last year I attempted growing onions for the first time from seed. I had great success with germination and was so proud of all my healthy little starts with lots of beautiful roots. However, the plants put on very little growth and the bulb part never got bigger than about an inch or 2 in diameter. They were planted in Espoma raised bed mix near my peppers, tomatoes, and beans, which were fertilized (with garden tone) and watered the same amount and did amazing. Where did I go wrong? Do they need more fertilizer and or water than my other veggies? I chose a long day variety which is appropriate for my latitude. Thank you for sharing so much of your knowledge and experience with us. I am the passionate gardener that I am today largely thanks to you. 💕
Hey Laura. Do have any tips or videos on grapevine pruning for the winter? Love your videos, found them after I took over my family home and my grandmother’s garden thank you for helping me find my new passion 🫶🏽
Hi Laura and Aaron! I love your channel and it is so full of information. I am starting my seeds and was wondering if you could go over watering? How do you know when a cell is to dry or wet? I have one cell that is dry on top but seems moist underneath the surface? Using the self watering trays from Gardeners supply is great…but I am afraid that my seedlings would dampen off when the surface stays wet. Any helpful tips would be awesome!! Thanks again for inspiring us everyday!!

My local garden center has a chart of when to plant, start indoors or direct seed, when to transplant outside, row spacing, and plant spacing for our zone for just about any veggie/herb you can imagine planting. I refer to this chart all throughout the seed starting season.
Have you ever tried starting the onion seeds in an open flat kind of like sprouts? I start them in open flats, trim them back once , then prick them out and pot them up. It saves a lot of seed starting room. I have even left them close together in the float and them planted them out from there but found they get a bigger if they are potted up first. Also, you had a lot of seed left over. Do you get good germination if you save them for a second year?
